The Transmigration Missions Are Not Scientific Ch.63

Chapter 63-Beastmen(4)

The small groups were determined by drawing lots. Gu Anran was very fortunate as she did not end up in the same group as Duan Hongwu, Song Wenyan, Mu Qingli, and the others. Otherwise, it would’ve been rather troublesome as she would have to let her wifey win or get beaten up by the fearsome lion clan.

On the other hand, her opponents for the first round made her didn’t know whether to cry or laugh.

All five races were gathered together and they formed neat rows in their small group of fifty. Now it was time for the young masters and young misses of the clans to give a pep talk to their members!

“We are big and we are strong! We will never lose!” With a loud stomp, the ground shook with terrifying strength. It was the elephant clan….yes, one of Gu Anran’s opponents is the elephant clan! Even if they were still considered children, these elephants were more than five times bigger than Gu Anran! If they were to fight, it would no longer be considered a fight but a straight-up beat down! One hit and they’ll be sent flying! And what kind of ritual is this? Please don’t stomp on the ground like that, is it fun to be covered in dirt and dust?!

“I-I…no, we will definitely achieve victory! Everyone must give it your all!” A very small squeaking that was being overwhelmed by the elephants’ stomping rang out. If one looked down they would see a very, very small animal….a mouse!

Gu Anran was actually competing with the largest and smallest creatures in this world! Was it really ok for these two races to be together like this? Won’t one of them be trampled to death by accident?!!

“Remember, we must win! If we encounter any obstacle, all of it can be solved with a fart!” What kind of strange cheer is this? Of course, this cheer was not just a figure of speech or a bluff, for these creatures really will fart!

And their farts are well-known to scare away any type of animal. Yes, that’s right, Gu Anran’s third enemy, is the skunk clan!

In this regard, Gu Anran only had one request:

I like to ask for a gas mask! I’m fine even without one but I don’t want to lose the round because of some stinky gas! That would be shameful! Let’s plug up their butts instead…Gu Anran thought sinisterly.

Skunks x 10: Hissss….Why did their butts feel so cold? Must be their imagination!

“Drink, drink, drink! With our fists, victory will be ours!” What sounded like a declaration of a drunken boxer rang out, the fifth opponent is the….kangaroo! Gu Anran had seen on TV that adult kangaroos have strong offensive power! They can use their tails to jump high up into the ground and their strong hind legs were also rather fearsome! It is said that a kangaroo could even kick an adult human to death, it was frightening to even think about it. However, it might not be the same for young kangaroos. For their front paws were much smaller than their hind limbs and their tails were so soft, they didn’t look at all like the powerful adult kangaroos. Will these poor creatures be fine?

In short, Gu Anran upheld the attitude of not underestimating one’s opponents and continued to observe them carefully.

Cough….” A soft and dry coughing sound attached Gu Anran’s attention and Gu Anran turned her head to look at Bai Qing standing beside her and then at the eight wolves behind them….

Seeing their expectant gazes, Gu Anran stiffened for a second…..ah, she is the heir to the clan and it is her job to give a pep talk. What should she say….

“I hope you all will strive to do your utmost best. We will definitely prevail, but be careful to not hurt yourself.”

“Understood!” x9

Ah…..their ultra-loud and orderly answer made Gu Anran, who had just spoken a few perfunctorily words, feel somewhat guilty for about three seconds.

WUUUUUUU!

The sound of a horn blared out again and this time, three beastmen approached Gu Anran’s group. No, to be more accurate, a set of three beastmen approached each of the small groups. The three that approached her group consisted of two females and one male.

“We are the referees in charge of this group. I am this group’s leader. In a moment, you will all follow me but first, these two will give a demonstration.” A woman who appeared to be the leader appeared in front and then nodded to the man and woman behind her. The other two immediately turned around and then rushed to the other end of the grasslands.

Wha! Although the speed was a bit worse than her own mother, it was still really fast! Wait, according to how long they were running this event should be….no, it couldn’t be….

The woman in charge held up a list as she scanned the group, probably confirming that everyone had arrived.

“This first round will be the long-distance running event. Please follow me.”  Putting away the list, the woman motioned to Gu Anran and the other little beasts to follow her.

They arrived at a fixed point and what looked like a vine marked the starting point. The ends of the vine were impossible to see and Gu Anran saw there were many small groups lined up near them. It seems the entire grasslands had been set up to look like track markings were at least 5 meters apart.

The vine seemed to continue on forever, probably for the full 20 kilometers! It must’ve taken a long time to build something like this! It was a good thing these competitions don’t happen often and only at the end of the year. If it was held once a month, there would be no vines left in the forest!

The man and woman who ran like the wind reappeared in front of them. From the ears and tails, Gu Anran could tell that one is from the leopard clan and the other from the antelope clan.

Gu Anran glanced at their small group standing before the starting line. The nervous energy and restless fidgeting painted a scene that reminded her of a bunch of kids before running a physical fitness test in school. If all the beasts were to run at the same time though, it would be rather hard to tell who was in front and who was behind!

“Remember, you can not run out of our group’s designated track! If you run onto another group’s track, you will be immediately disqualified. We will be following you from start to finish and watching you as you run. Also, it is ok for you to stop if you want to rest but as your seniors, we would like to advise you against stopping. From our experience and the experience of previous generations, to stop running is equivalent to giving up. Therefore, even if you’re slow, you have to keep moving forward.” The woman smiled and fondly told Gu Anran and the others about her own experience.

I think….to make us run 20 kilometers….someone is going to die! At least in a regular race, one can see the finish line and motivate themselves to keep moving. But now, I can’t even see it! At least in marathons, they have signs to indicate how many meters are left! Here there is nothing but grass and more grass! I can only blindly run along with the vines!

“Oh, that’s right, we have set up watering stations every four kilometers so make sure to keep hydrated. If you want to take a drink, you can drink. Alright then, the race will begin soon. When the next horn sounds out, the race will begin. You may line up and get into positions.” The woman said a few more words and then made her way to the back of the group where the other beastmen were.

Like this, if you were one of the last, it would be rather embarrassing. The beastmen would be watching your every move, a somewhat terrifying thing to think about.

However, it was good to know that they were providing water at least. Not including the finish point, there were at least four markers to indicate the distance. Much better than running forward blindly.

Gu Anran inhaled deeply, she felt incredibly nervous. The other young beasts weren’t much better as they constantly paced back and forth. It seems her other clanmates were in the same state as her. She glanced over at Bai Qing. Her childhood friend had a calm expression but her claws were out and tearing up the grass beneath her. It seems even Bai Qing was feeling quite nervous inside.

Although she wanted to comfort her friend, Gu Anran’s own nervous heart felt like jumping out her chest and the race was about to begin. She didn’t want to start a conversation and then have the horn sound out, catching them off guard. No, they had to be ready to run any moment now.

WUUUUUUU!

The horn sounded and the race begins!

Gu Anran used her agile wolf limbs to charge forward, but the violently vibrating ground almost made her lose her balance. Gu Anran looked behind her….my god! Dust was flying everywhere, with grass and gravel being kicked into the air.

The ten baby elephants were like small tanks as they ran from behind. The kangaroos in front of the elephants were running wild, their expressions making it seem like ghosts were chasing them! And in front of them, although the skunks didn’t look as panicked as the kangaroos, their eyes widened when they turned their heads to see the situation behind them. They raised their tails and suddenly a wave of greenish-brown gas came out of their butts. They were farting! The fart of a deadly and poisonous skunk!

The kangaroos were simply stuck between a rock and a hard place! As for the mice, who knows where they are! Hopefully, they haven’t been trampled to death, she couldn’t see any of them at all!

For the sake of her own safety, Gu Anran sped up and rushed forward. Now, she was clearly leading the group but she didn’t feel like she was running at her full strength at all. And why was none of her wolf friends rushing past her? Although it was unwise to run at full speed in the beginning parts of the long-distance race, the usually competitive little beasts should be trying to run past her!

After a quick glance backward, Gu Anran finally understood. She never expected that the wolf clan’s sense of unity and camaraderie to be so strong! Strong enough to make her feel ashamed.

Behind her, Bai Qing ran on her immediate right while the others formed two neat rows behind Bia Qing. Seeing this, Gu Anran wanted to turn her head and yell at them. Fools! This is a race! They should be trying to win!

Of course, because this is a long-distance race, she wasn’t able to speak her mind as that would lead to her becoming out of breath. Instead, she could only maintain her current speed and then sprint the final distance when they near the finish line.

Haaaa….Haaaa….Ha…..

Gu Anran panted for air, her throat dry and painful like it was on fire.

She had passed three of the drinking stations and although they had taken a short drink, with the sun high above the sky and the fur coating her body, her body heated up rather quickly.

At this moment, Gu Anran’s fur was messy and wild, sweat slicking through her hair. Her limbs were sore and numb, she couldn’t even feel her paws anymore. She only knew that she had to keep moving forward and her limbs mechanically moved under her instructions. Five of her wolf friends had fallen behind with four skunks, three kangaroos, and three elephants following closely behind those five wolves.

And, the mice who had fallen behind since the beginning unexpectedly caught up. Although not all ten were with the front runners, there were at least four keeping up with them and that was already a shocking development. After all, one step to them seemed like 20 meters to the mice. And they were only roughly 50 meters behind the frontrunners. Even Gu Anran felt some admiration for them to have gone so far.

The next watering station appeared in front of her and there was almost no one there. The number of animals has decreased drastically compared to the first station.

“Come, come, have a drink! Refuel and keep running!” The beastmen in charge of the station placed a basin of water in front of Gu Anran.

Gulp. Gulp. Gulp.

Gu Anran swallowed frantically, and perhaps she was just too thirsty as Gu Anran felt that this water was the best she had ever drunk. It was such a pity that it was only one basin per animal.

She licked her wet lips and then stretched her newly reinvigorated limbs as she continued to run.

As the race continued, only one clanmate still kept up with her and it was Bai Qing. However, even the distance between the two of them was getting bigger and bigger but of course, Gu Anran who only looked forward did not notice this. Finally, all her clanmates disappeared and she was the only one leading the pack.

She moved forward mechanically, her limbs crying in pain as a faint figure appeared on the horizon. The exhausted GU Anran’s eyes lit up at the sight.

She was near the end! She gritted her teeth and with the last burst of energy, she sprinted forward and finally past the finish line!

When Gu Anran crossed the finish line, the beastmen standing there threw up a sphere into the sky. Sparks flew from the sphere and into the sky, making a loud cracking noise before it disappeared after a few seconds.

“Huu….Hu….Hu….” Gu Anran panted heavily and dropped onto the grass. Her whole body had collapsed and her limbs refused to move anymore. She couldn’t even keep her eyes open.

Suddenly she was lifted off the ground and familiar voice sounded,

“Anran, you did it! What a great performance!” This voice….it’s Gu Bing! Why is her mom here?

Gu Anran opened his eyes laboriously and saw a crowd full of beastmen in front of her. If previously all she had seen were the cubs and young beasts, now there was the only beastmen! Were all the parents waiting here?

“Come, come, drink some water!” Chi Wenyan held out a bucket of water and poured it on Gu Anran.

The water was slightly salty….saltwater? Gu Anran shook her body and started drinking.

Gu Bing also gave some soft foods to Gu Anran for her to eat. While she replenished her energy, the other young beasts slowly arrived one after another. Gu Anran didn’t know which place she was, but she was proud that she had reached the end and didn’t lose any face for her parents.

Gu Anran ate some more food from a bowl and watched the rest of her group arrive. The second one after her was Bai Qing. She was then picked up by her parents and taken somewhere else. Then she realized….both of the top spots were taken up by the wolf clan!

Wait….if she won…does that means she has to run again for the next round! She’ll actually die if she has to ring again!

Gu Bing looked strangely at her daughter’s widening eyes and asked puzzledly,

“Anran, what’s wrong?”

“I’m first place so doesn’t that mean I have to run again?!!”

“Ah, that was an old rule from last year. Who told you about it?” Gu Bing asked.

“Huh? Mengyan did!” Gu Anran tilted her head.

“Didn’t you listen to anything during the gathering yesterday? There are new rules in place. You little brat– you actually didn’t listen!” Chi Wenyan knocked Gu Anran’s head.

Cough….she didn’t listen yesterday, that’s true…..but that meant Mengyan and Qingli didn’t either! The only four who didn’t listen were the ones who ended up talking about the rules together…

“Based on the previous rules, most of the young beasts would be exhausted after running the race and wouldn’t even be able to compete in the other events, much less another long-distance race. Therefore, we decided to have all the young beasts run together at the same time and then pick a winner. Therefore, only one round per event. The ranking was also based on that signal flare just now.” Gu Bing explained.

“I see! So that’s how it is! Then who’s in the first place?” Gu Anran nodded and asked.

“I don’t know since it will be announced later when all the young beasts cross the finish line. The sprinting event will start soon so you must replenish your energy. Eat quickly, you gotta keep up your calorie intake! Then walk around and digest a bit or else your stomach is going to hurt during the intense events.” Chi Wenyan said as she pulled out a bag filled with three boxes that were full of meat. Although she had already eaten a large bowl, the smell of meat still made Gu Anran drool.

Burrpp~” Gu Anran burped contently and then stood up to walk around. She didn’t dare run off to find Mu Qinlgi as she was afraid she would end up getting lost and then get automatically disqualified.

The other little beasts laid on the ground to rest. Gu Anran had seriously considered whether she should do the same but she was afraid of oversleeping.

While she was in distress, Gu Bing walked over and took out a cushion as she sat next to Gu Anran. She placed the cushion on her lap and then picked up Gu Anran and set the little wolf down on the fluffy cushion while patting her soft fur.

“Anran, take a break and rest. I’ll wake you up when the next event starts.”

Oooooh! Mom is the best! She really understands the needs of her daughter!

Gu Anran cuddled against Gu Bing’s abdomen, then closed her eyes and fell asleep.

“Dear, I got to go do something so I’ll leave this little guy with you.” Chi Wenyan waved her hand and stood to leave.

“I understand. I’ll go to you after she wakes up.” Gu Bing massaged Gu Anran’s sore limbs and nodded towards Chi Wenyan as she watched her lover disappear in the crows. Then she began to focus on seriously massaging the sleeping Gu Anran’s stiff body.

After who knows how long, Gu Anran felt her body being gently shaken and flicked her ears in dissatisfaction but the shaking didn’t stop. She opened her eyes with a groan and saw it was her mother, causing her to sober up. That’s right, I’m still in the middle of a competition!

“Hah~~” Gu Anran yawned and shook her lazy body.

“Come here, Anran, let me wipe your mouth.” Gu Bing took out a handkerchief and wiped Gu Anran’s slightly wet mouth. She also smoothed out Gu Anran’s fur and made her look more refreshed.

“Thanks, mom!”

“En.” Putting away the handkerchief, Gu Bing patted Gu Anran’s head.

“I have to go back and judge now. Good luck with the competition!”

“En!” Gu Anran nodded and then watched Gu Bing quickly pack her things and disappear into the crowd.

“Alright, everyone! Please follow me! I’ll take you to the sprinting event venue.” The older sister and the leading beastman who had led her group appeared again but she didn’t seem flushed nor was she struggling to breathe although she had run 20 kilometers with them. This stamina gap between young beasts and beastmen is really exaggerated!

After confirming that all the fifty little beasts were here, their group’s leader took them to their next destination.  They passed countless dead trees, huge rocks, and even small ponds with small sand piles in front of them. Just what did they do to this track course!

They had passed the area where they had just run the race earlier and Gu Anran was confident her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her as the grasslands in front of her really were covered in small ponds and other obstacles as of right now!

The fallen trees and boulders looked fine from a distance but were enormous up close. Each tree was about as tall as at least 2 beastmen which meant about twenty times taller than Gu Anran. Not to mention the boulders, how was she going to get over those mountain sized rocks? Were they going rock climbing today or something?

“You have only one goal in this event and it is for you to reach the finish line. I don’t care what method you use. You can cooperate with each other but you cannot sabotage another competitor.” The woman said.

Cooperate? Gu Anran glanced at her wolf clanmates and found that they were all looking back at her. Like this, as long as no one devlierlity sabotages their efforts, the wolf clan will not be last!

But we must be prepared for anything! Gu Anran looked ahead thoughtfully.

Wuuuuuuuu!

The game begins!

Gu Anran led her clanmates forward and then watched the most brutal scene occur. When the wolf clan rushed forward towards the first fallen tree, the elephants had arrived before them and then directly used their huge body without hesitation to hit the tree….and then the tree broke in half…..Gu Anran watched as one half of the tree flew through the sky. Like a baseball being thrown! Or a cannonball!

And some of the other animals simply climbed over the fallen trees without even giving it another look. And then look at the mice! They’re just burrowing directly beneath the tree and making a path underground! Isn’t this illegal? One clan uses brute force, the other uses their convenient paws! How do we compete with this????

However, Gu Anran knew now wasn’t the time to complain, she had to lead her clan through the obstacles one by one before the elephant clans rushed at them and trampled them! She didn’t want her wolf friends to die!

She stretched out a paw to push one of her wolf friends out of the way of a flying boulder and prevented him from getting injured. Tsk, is this really an obstacle race anymore? This is way too terrifying? One moment of inattention can lead to death!

She lowered her head and looked at the towering boulder in front of her. The boulder spanned over two different tracks and was taller than the average beastmen. It would be absolutely impossible for her clanmates and her to push it, so there was only one other way!

“Everyone, start digging a hole!” Gu Anran called out and then started moving her front paws. She glanced back and saw that none of the wolves were moving as they stare dumbfoundedly at her causing her to shout in frustration,

“Dig quickly!! Do you want to be trampled to death by the elephants? Although this boulder has an indented surface that we can climb on, it won’t be easy nor fast. Then when the elephant clan breaks through this boulder, we will all fall to our deaths!”

The wolves shook themselves out of their daydreams and  hurriedly followed Gu Anran’s actions. Although they were little beasts with inefficient hands, their efficiency was rather amazing. The last wolf made it through the hole they made when…BANG! The boulder shook violently and a piece almost landed onto the poor wolf’s tail. The elephant clan has arrived!

“Alright, let’s hurry and get out of here.” Seeing her still dumbfounded wolf clanmates just standing there, Gu Anran started running first.

After going over and under a few more fallen trees and boulders, they came across a pond. Without hesitation, Gu Anran jumped directly into the water.

Perhaps it was because the obstacle was built recently, the pond was not deep and Gu Anran’s head was still above water when her paws touched the pond’s floor.

However, it still was much harder to walk in water than on dry ground. One couldn’t see the bottom of the pond too clearly and they might trip over a rock or to cause them to choke on a mouthful of water. Gu Anran patiently waddled through the water when she saw the mouse clan on the other side pulling the last of their mouse clanmates on shore before moving forward.

Cough, cough, cough….” Gu Anran shook her drenched fur and coughed up some water as she pulled herself ashore. Gu Anran then stretched out her paws to help her fellow miserable wolves out of the water.

Her clanmates seemed exhausted as they pulled themselves out of the water, it seems that swimming was rather difficult to them! In the first place, they rarely went swimming as they lived in grasslands that didn’t have large bodies of water near them. Suddenly asking these dry land animals to swim was a bit much.

Thinking like this, Gu Anran looked towards the other side at the skunks who hesitated as they tentatively approached the water. The young master of the skunk clan slowly reached out his front paw to touch the water and then immediately withdrew it like he was burned. It seemed stinky and cowardly animals like them hated the water the most. When encountering such an unusual obstacle, they had their doubts but they shouldn’t still be hesitating as the other contestants have obviously successfully swam past it. Compared to her fellow wolves who were much bolder, the skunks are rather timid.

Yet, maybe it was because they saw Gu Anran and the wolves on the other side that they decided to finally enter the water. It looked like the young master of the skunk clan would rather continue that gavie.

After confirming all of her wolf friends have made it, Gu Anran continued forward. They climbed over fallen trees, dug under the boulders they couldn’t climb over, when they finally arrived at the last stretch where sand covered the entire track. The finish line was in sight and many little beasts have reached this last stretch but could not move forward. And the reason why….

Gu Anran tentatively stretched out her right paw and lightly placed it onto the sand. With a light push, her paw started to sink straight down into the sand. She didn’t even know how deep the sandpit was as she quickly pulled out her paw. The smaller animals have it worse as their entire body sank directly into the sand. And as Gu Anran’s fastest animals, the mice have encountered a difficult problem.

She glanced at the young master of the mouse clan and watched as the poor animal paced back and forth. His classmates were apparently resuscitating one of their clanmates that had fallen into the sandpit.

That mouse was lucky to have been rescued as they most likely would’ve been forever lost in the large sandpit otherside.

What should they do? Gu Anran pursed her lips when she thought of a plan.

“Bai Qing, lead the other beasts over there and push those rocks over here. At that size, you guys should be able to do it.” Gu Anran asked, pointing to a few rocks not too far away that were almost twice her size.

“Yes! Leave it to us!” Bai Qing nodded and the other wolves followed suit and then rushed over to start working enthusiastically.

Seeing that Gu Anran had a plan, the young master of the mouse clan stopped his movements and watched Gu Anran with interest.

“May I ask what the Young Miss of the wolf clan plans to do?”

“Our method may not be suitable for you but we plan to use some rocks as stepping stones to jump directly over the sand pit.” Gu Anran smiled and nodded to the young master of the mouse clan. It was fine if she told them her plan as the mice wouldn’t be able to use the plan even if they wanted to. They couldn’t move such big rocks and they weren’t large enough to be able to jump that distance.

“So that’s how it is.” The young master of the mouse clan nodded thoughtfully.

“Anran, we have the rocks.” Bai Qing said while panting for breath.

“See if you can lift a rock and then throw it as far as you can.” Gu Anran commanded.

Bang….

The rock flew in the air and landed in the sand, immediately sinking down until it stopped with about five centimeters still peeking above the yellow sand.

“Good! It’s a success! Get the next one ready” Gu Anran patted her clanmates on the shoulder encouragely and then joined them to help push the rocks.

Just as she expected, since the pond was recently built, the sandpit must’ve been the same. Even if it is the final obstacle before the finish line, it would not be as deep as the actual quicksands in the deserts and the stones were still exposed above the deadly sandpit. It seems it was only about as deep as one meter or so which is still really deep for the little beasts but with these rocks, they can use them as stopping stones and clear the sandpit!

The movements of the wolves attracted the attention of the other beasts and while some copired her method, others were too proud to do the same as they searched for other ways. However, Gu Anran couldn’t care less as she busied in her work.

Soon the little path of stepping stone was built and although the distance between rocks weren’t perfect, it was doable with the jumping power of the wolves!

Taking the lead, Gu Anran jumped first into the sandpit. Turning her head, she watched as her friends jumped nimbly behind her. Hmmm….hey, you little fellow behind our last wolf! Yeah, that’s right, I’m looking at you! Don’t look away when our eyes meet! Your size is still different from a wolf!

It turns out that while Gu Anran and the others were building a path of salvation through the sandpit, the skunks have finally arrived. They wanted to piggyback off of the wolves’ efforts and use their stepping stones to cross the sandpit. Gu Anran didn’t care if they did this, but would the young master of the skunk clan not face his butt when I look at him! I;m afraid you’ll accidentally release a trace of a poisonous gas and cause my clan mate to fall into the sand! If you do, this old lady won’t be shy and directly slap you into the sand!

In the end, the last wolf made it over and the wolf clan was the first to cross the finish line as they threw themselves into the arms of their parents.

“Hehehe, our little daughter is so smart! Must be from my side of the family!” Chi Wenyan smiled proudly as Gu Bing held up her daughter.

“No way! It must be from my other mom! If it was from you, I’m afraid I would be an idiot!” Gu Anran hmphed disdainfully.

“You stinky little brat, what did you say?” Chi Wenyan said angrily as she thought about throwing her daughter back into the sandpit not too far away.

“Alright, you two, stop arguing! Everyone is watching….” Gu Bing said helplessly.

“Anran, here, drink some water. Do you want to eat something?”

“Ok.” Gu Anran nodded obediently in Gu Bing’s arms, and then made a face towards Chi Wenayn at an angle Gu Bing could not see. This made Chi Wenyan grit her teeth in anger.

She ate the same meat Gu Bing had somehow preserved. The meat was still hot and fresh, the most delicious she has eaten!

“Mom, what’s wrong with the little beats over there?” While eating the meat she glanced around her surroundings and saw some injured contestants not too far away.

Gu Bing looked in her direction and was silent for a while before opening her mouth,

“Those were the ones injured during the game and the referees have judged they are unable to continue the game and therefore they were brought over there to rest.”

So the ones forced to forfeit….Gu Anran took another look to make sure her friends and wifey were not over there before turning away.

“The next game is the long jump! It’s the most boring and fastest event. Over in one shot.” Chi Wenyan pouted on the side.

“Is that so?”

“En, there’s no need for breaks in between and there are two opportunities per person. Then they count your best attempt before tallying the results.” Gu Bing nodded.

Sure enough, they didn’t get much of a break when their group leader from earlier came over and brought them to a long vine.

“I will call you over one by one and you’ll line up behind the vine. You have two changes and may run up to the vine if you need it. Remember to stand firm when you land and try not to fall or slide forward. If you fall or slide forward, the attempt will not be counted. Any questions?” The woman asked.

“No!” x50

“Then the elephant clan is up first!”

The first one up was naturally the young master of the elephant clan. He stood about ten steps away from the vine before rushing forward when the woman gave the signal to start. The ground shook violently when he ran, but the other animals seemed used to it by now and watched silently. After all, they have suffered ten elephants running at once already, so one running at a time was nothing.

They watched as the elephant clan’s young master pushed himself into the air and then landed on the ground harshly, the earth shaking vibrating at least three times before it stopped.

“Ppppfff—cough, cough.” Gu Anran waved her paws as the dust flew into her mouth. She had underestimated the ‘offensive power’ of the elephants again. And there were still another nine elephants each one running at least twice plus the young master’s last attempt….she had to endure this another nineteen times! My god! Someone come and save her!

After the elephant clan finally finished, Gu Anran spat out the gravel from her mouth and shook the dust off her body.

How annoying! After shaking off the dust the first time, she had to do again the second time and so Gu Anran decided to simply cover her snout and then wait for the ordeal to finish. Her ears were drooped earlier as well so as to not let the gravel fly into her sensitive ears. Now she could barely see with all the dust in front of her.

Next up was the mouse clan and Gu Anran watched as they earnestly ran towards the vine, jumped and landed. Their posture was perfect, there was no dust or gravel but….that distance was really pitiful. Maybe about the same as two elephant steps? Although they were small in size, they tried their best.

Then it was the wolf clan’s turn.

They jumped one after another and it was a simple thing to jump. Unlike humans, they rarely lost their balance as they had four limbs. At least none of the animals have fallen so far or else they might be laughed at for a lifetime!

Then came the kangaroos, the ones with the most advantage. After all, their hind legs were built to jump far distances.

Sure enough, when the young master of the kangaroo jumped, Gu Anran’s eyes widened….this…this is at least four meters! Isn’t it a bit exaggerated?!! Think about how high humans can jump when they’re ten…maybe two meters at most! When it comes to physical things, humans could not compare to animals!

The last ones were the skunks. Gu Anran thought that maybe the skunks’ jumping distance is similar to the wolf clan which meant they didn’t have any special characteristics. However, she felt a bad premiomontion as the first skunk ran up.

When the skunk jumped…ppppfffff! A poisonous gas was released and Gu Anran watched blankly as suddenly green smoke came out of the skunk’s butt and permeated into the air.

After this one fart, several of the other skunks also released poisonous gas! And in the vast grassland where the wind was strong, this was the worst!

In an instant, the smell was overwhelming. Gu Anran felt her nose was burning and didn’t care if the other animals were suffering as she only thought about getting fresh air!

She shrunk into a ball, the tip of her nose pushed against her stomach to isolate it from the air and keep it entering her nose. Only her eyes were revealed to observe her surroundings.

Her wolf friends followed the example and shrunk into a ball.

The kangaroos seemed to have already gotten used to the gas after being exposed to it before. However, they still covered their nostrils with their forelimbs.

The elephants did something even easier as they simply stretched their long trunks as high as they could go to find fresh air. Gu Anran didn’t know if this was working but seeing how the elephants weren’t lowering their trunks, the air quality up there should be good!

Other than that incident, Gu Anran and the other successfully made it past the long jump event without much trouble and set off for the next field.

The next event was called swimming only in name because in reality, it is a fishing competition!

  1. All right this was just very unnecessary lol to go into so many details about this competitions.

I do wonder about Bai Qing, I feel bad her feelings won’t be answered back and all, but I wonder if a villainess can appear?
