Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.10

The two chatted for a while, well to be more exact, it was mainly Jiang Ziquan who was the one talking. She asked numerous questions while Shen Yumo simply answered them. For example, she learned that Shen Yumo’s birthday was on July 19th, meaning that Shen Yumo was 3 months younger than herself.

And Shen Yumo liked all vegetables except celery. 

“Little Jiang, Yumo, it’s time to go.” Mrs. Shen lightly knocked on the door and whispered. 

“Okay, mom.”

“Okay, auntie.”

They both said at the same time and then glanced at each other.

“You go out first, I need to change my clothes.” After saying so, without a second glance, Shen Yumo went over and opened her wardrobe. 

Of course Jiang Ziquan didn’t want to leave, but after staring at Shen Yumo’s back, she shrugged and walked out.

“Oh, uncle, auntie, no need to give me any gifts.” As soon as she stepped out, Jiang Ziquan stopped the two elders: “My family hasn’t even given the wedding gifts yet, so how can I accept your gifts?”

“Aiya, what are you saying child? These are for your parents, not you.” Mr. Shen smiled, it seems that Jiang Ziquan was quite invested into this relationship if she was talking about wedding gifts. “I only ask that you take good care of our Yumo.”

“Naturally.” Jiang Ziquan twisted her hair in embarrassment, then she said sincerely, “Uncle, can I call you Dad from now on?”

Mr. Shen froze for a moment and then laughed, sounding very pleased, “Alright.”

“Dad.”

“En.”

Meanwhile, Shen Yumo had finished changing and walked into the scene of Jiang Ziquan calling her father ‘Dad’, the word sounding very familiar even though it was the first time hearing Jiang Ziquan saying it. 

“Yumo, let’s have dad drive us home.” Jiang Ziquan smiled when she saw Shen Yumo coming out. 

Shen Yumo’s eyes twitched and felt that something was wrong, but she couldn’t say anything. 

Jiang Ziquan helped the Shen family to put the gifts in the car while the three of them talked and laughed.

Mrs. Shen also stuffed a few small gifts into Shen Yumo’s hands and said with a smile: “Yumo, little Jiang, this child is a good person.”

Shen Yumo has always been obedient since she was young and despite being a literature teacher, was not one for many words. Suddenly a mischievous chatterbox like Jiang Ziquan showed up, causing the two elders to feel happy.  

Jiang Ziquan and Shen Yumo sat in the back, while the Shen couple sat in front.

Mr. Shen glanced into the mirror, his heart feeling worried. The Jiang Ziquan who spoke so eloquently in front of them, was as quiet as a mouse in front of his daughter. Although his daughter was not one for words, this atmosphere was more than a little awkward. 

Mrs. Shen immediately understood Mr. Shen’s feeling and hurriedly winked at Jiang Ziquan.  

Jiang Ziquan always had a good observation ability, so although there was no change in Shen Yumo’s expression, she could still tell that Teacher Shen was feeling slightly unhappy. Not wanting to add fuel to the fire, she slightly shook her head at the two.

Mr. Shen glared at her a bit, but said nothing.

Jiang Ziquan looked at the quiet teacher next to her and embarrassedly scratched her nose. This personality, just who did Shen Yumo get this from?

The entire way, the people quietly made their way over to the agreed meeting place: Hotel Xingyue. 

When Jiang Zitao met his in-law, they had met here. Feeling that this place was rather good, the Jiang family reserved this place again. As the saying goes, unfamiliar at first, but well accustomed soon enough.

Jiang Zitao dragged his newlywed wife, Chen Lanyi, outside and waited. However, they didn’t know which car they were coming, so they had no idea if they were here already or not. 

Fortunately, Jiang Ziquan’s eyes were good and saw the couple displaying PDA from a distance and called out to them, “Brother.”

Jiang Zitao heard the voice and hurried over: “Hello, uncle, auntie, I’m Jiang Zitao, Ziquan’s older brother,” then pointed at his wife, “this is my wife, Chen Lanyi.”

Mr. Shen replied, “Yes, nice to meet you. Truly you two are a dragon and phoenix pair.”

“No, no, you over exaggerate. Miss Shen is clearly better than us.” Jiang Zitao said out of courtesy, receiving their gifts and then leading them inside. 

Jiang Ziquan followed slowly behind Shen Yumo, smiling mischievously and then said quietly: “Don’t be angry.”

Shen Yumo’s footsteps stopped and then looked at her in confusion. When was she angry? 

Jiang Ziquan’s mouth twitched. This girl isn’t quite honest with her feelings.

“My fellow in-laws, we only now meet. Please forgive us.” Seeing the Shen couple, Mrs. Jiang was obviously even more happy than when she met Chen Lanyi’s parents. 

After all, the two of lovebirds have been in love since eighteen, and dated for twelve years, so she was quite familiar with Chen Lanyi’s parents already. 

“No need to apologize.” 

Jiang Ziquan walked over to her parents and sat behind them. From time to time, Mrs. Jiang’s eyes turned to look at Jiang Ziquan. Jiang Ziquan knew what her mother was trying to say. ‘You have good eyes, your wife looks beautiful and nice.’ However, Jiang Ziquan merely ignored her mother. 

Perhaps Chen Lanyi’s temperament is similar to Shen Yumo’s temperament as the two of them occasionally whispered to each other. This caused Jiang Ziquan to feel dumbfounded as she turned to look sadly at her brother. 

“Fellow in-laws, how much of the wedding do you want us to cover?” Mr. Jiang had drunk a few glasses earlier, so his face was slightly red, and his usually stern square face looked a little stupid. 

Mr. Shen looked at his wife and then Shen Yumo again. He didn’t know how to answer, and frowned a little.

Shen Yumo moved over to Jiang Ziquan and said, “Tell your dad I don’t need a wedding.”

“That won’t do,” sitting so close, Jiang Ziquan could smell the faint scent of wine drifting from Shen Yumo’s body, causing her brain to malfunction, but she continued, “I already said, I’ll cover the costs of the wedding.”

Shen Yumo heard what she said and paused, not saying anything.

“What’s wrong? Are you two discussing the details?” Mr. Jiang was very pleased to see the two of them so close and whispering with each other. He always doted on this daughter of his and naturally didn’t want to see her suffer. As long as she is happy, he’s happy. He even thought that his daughter was quite good at picking people as well. 

Jiang Ziquan nodded and said with a smile: “300,000.” (T/N note: Approx. 40,000 dollars)

As soon as this number came out, Shen Yumo glared at her, and the Shen couple also glared at her. All three of them had the same thought: Is this girl crazy? 

Mr. Jiang’s wine glass shook a bit. He shot a look at Mrs. Jiang. If he was being serious, the Jiang family could easily take out this sum, but he was a little worried that his daughter might regret this and the money would be wasted. 

“No problem.” On the other hand, Mrs. Jiang agreed cheerfully. They had taken out this much for their son, so they’ll do the same for their daughter.

Jiang Ziquan looked happy, her mother was quite generous. 

Then both sides continued to talk, the two sides learning more about each other, finally feeling like true in-laws. 

As Shen Yumo also learned more about Jiang Ziquan, she felt even more guilty. Miss Jiang’s family are all good people and she had implicated the family for that damned prophecy. Furthermore, she might cause Miss Jiang to become a divorcee. If later the Jiang family found out that this was a fake marriage, who could imagine what would happen. 

Jiang Ziquan then saw Jiang Zitao wink at her and followed him out.

“What’s up?”

Jiang Zitao laughed harmlessly, and then patted her on the shoulder: “As your brother, I am ashamed to say I can’t give you much,” he then pulled something out of his pocket, “but I think it’s time you get your jade back.”

Jiang Ziquan opened the box, inside were couple rings, “You sure are quick.”

At the time when Jiang Zitao proposed, Jiang Ziquan acted as his witness. Later, Jiang Zitao saw these rings and although he liked them, felt they were too feminine. But as he tried to think of something to give, he remembered these rings and quickly bought them. 

Jiang Ziquan gave him a fierce hug.

When they came in, the Shen couple felt a little embarrassed. The Jiang family was enthusiastic and they felt dazzled by gifts, they kept expressing their thanks over and over again. Not only the girl, but it seems the Jiang family were also good people.

“Fellow in-laws, as we didn’t have much time, I could only prepare this much. If there’s anything else you need, just tell us directly.” Mrs. Jiang grabbed Mrs. Shen’s hand and said kindly.

Well, the amount of gifts really wasn’t small at all. They had prepared the same amount for her brother’s marriage.

“You are too polite, I only wish happiness for the beautiful couple.” Mrs. Shen glanced at the two. This Jiang family was indeed good to them, she only hoped that the two of them would be like the prophecy said, that they will grow old with fortune. 

The two sides said a few more words, and then the meeting was over.

Jiang Ziquan sent Shen Yumo out, and then to her, tilting her head, “Did you bring my jade?”

Shen Yumo heard her words and started looking in her bag before pulling it out: “Here.”

Jiang Ziquan looked down at her jade and then said, “Don’t move.”

Shen Yumo thought she had broken it and asked, “What’s wrong?”

Jiang Ziquan took out the box from her pocket, and swiftly exchanged the jade with the ring.

Shen Yumo looked at the ring that was forced on her right ring finger. Frozen, she looked up, her mind full of thoughts as she watched that retreating back.

The two elders of the Shen family were very happy to see this scene and smiled at each other.

As soon as she got into the taxi, Shen Yumo’s WeChat rang. She picked up her phone and saw a friend request message. Under it was a  message that said: “I told you I would replace the jade with an engagement ring.” 

Her profile looked like a howling cat, and after thinking for a bit, Shen Yumo still didn’t hit the agree button.

Meanwhile, Jiang Ziquan felt a little impatient. Can she not guess who this is?

She could only solemnly send another message: “This is Jiang Ziquan.” 

“Ziquan, stop playing with your phone. Tell me, what is your plan for the wedding?” Mrs. Jiang felt annoyed watching Jiang Ziquan swiping up and down, “have you discussed everything with Yumo yet?”

Jiang Zitao and Mr. Jiang both looked at her in anticipation. She answered: “Probably after the New Year. You all should know how awkward this whole situation is, she might not be happy if it’s rushed. Let’s talk about it again after a few days.”

The other nodded. To think this considerately, this girl must have fallen hard for the Shen girl. 

“So, whose idea was it about the money?” Mr. Jiang was quite curious. From their conversation just then, Mr. Shen did not seem like a money lover, so why would they need to fork out that much? Was there some difficulty they couldn’t say?

Jiang Ziquan naturally didn’t hide anything, she mentioned the 200, 000 yuan that Chen Ruoguang shouted out during the commotion that day.

“Oh, so it’s like this. Then this is fine, our family must be better than that animal.” Mr. Jiang said arrogantly.

In reality, Jiang Ziquan was only guessing, she didn’t know if that money was for the wedding or not. Knowing Shen Yumo’s temperament, she would’ve probably asked for those 200,000 yuan only for a desperate reason. Perhaps it had something to do with her home getting demolished soon.

However, the relationship between the two has not developed that far yet, and she didn’t want to forcibly question her. It was not a good thing to anger the beauty.
