Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.24

Jiang Ziquan glanced at her watch. It was noon and there were still many people in the restaurant, but she wanted to go home already. She rarely got annoyed when there was a crowd, but today she wasn’t in the mood. Good thing Lin Cuo came in at the right time so she could happily go home and eat lunch.

Lin Cuo stared blankly at the computer in front of her and said, “Tang Jiu, I think your boss ate the wrong medicine today.”

Beside her, Tang Jiu thought about the fact that Teacher Shen is the dominant in the relationship and his expression turned vulgar and was somewhat scary to look at.

Jiang Ziquan returned to her warm home and Shen Yumo walked out with the dishes for lunch to see Jiang Ziquan sitting there at the dining table obediently: “Isn’t your restaurant busy right now?”

“Not busy at all. How’s Cheng Feng doing?”

She looked around but didn’t see even a shadow of the kid who promised he would study hard in exchange for those concert tickets.

“He was told to stay behind by Mr. Zhou.” Shen Yumo explained, setting the plates down.

Hearing those words, Jiang Ziquan’s face turned red and white. This little ‘bro’ of here was just too useless. He couldn’t even memorize the text properly without making trouble, causing her to feel so angry that she was speechless.

“I’ll bring him something to eat later.”

“Just let him starve.” Jing Ziquan said angrily, her tone frustrated, “Teacher Shen, don’t mind me, I’m a little angry today.”

Shen Yumo shook her head. She was in a little bit of a bad mood herself. Last night, Chen Ruoguang called her to say that he was getting married on Sunday to that woman who gave birth to his child. She was calm when he told her the news, but she fell into a daze. They were together for four years, but in only a few months, he had become a father of a three-year-old son and she had married this mischievous girl sitting in front of her. The end of their relationship wasn’t the fault of one party or the other, but fate’s decision.

She was not uncomfortable at the thought of him marrying another person because although she didn’t hate him, she didn’t truly love him either.

Jiang Ziquan picked up a piece of meat before noticing that Shen Yumo wasn’t her usual self. She placed the meat down and grabbed a few vegetables Shen Yumo liked, putting them in Shen Yumo’s bowl.

Shen Yumo saw the extra food in her bowl, froze and then looked up at her.

Jiang Ziquan was stunned by the cute expression on Shen Yumo’s face. Her beautiful brows were furrowed and she was pouting slightly. Too cute!

Jiang Ziquan coughed a few times. Although Shen Yumo is cute, she had a shy temperament, so Jiang Ziquan didn’t dare to laugh, “Are you in a bad mood.”

Shen Yumo set down her chopsticks and shook her head. She then told her about Chen Ruoguang’s marriage.

Every time she hears the name Chen Ruoguang, Jiang Ziquan would get annoyed. She pursed her lips and watched Shen Yumo’s expression carefully, but perhaps Shen Yumo was too good at hiding her feelings because there were no changes in expression at all. She looked like she was talking about the weather, not her ex’s marriage.

And she didn’t know how Chen Ruoguang mustered up the courage to do this. He just broke up with Shen Yumo and now he is marrying another girl so quickly. Just how thirsty can he be? Jiang Ziquan also guessed that the wedding prepared was the one Shen Yumo and he slaved over together. They would probably be living in the house Shen Yumo picked out with him, eating the food she arranged, and more. It was just uncomfortable thinking about it.

“Do you want to go?”

Shen Yumo didn’t really want to go. As Chen Ruoguang’s ex, her friends and relatives would definitely mock her behind her back. Although she didn’t care for other people’s opinions, she could still get upset about being the center of attention for some gossip she never wanted to be a part of.

“You should go.” Jiang Ziquan felt a little irritated. The piece of scum, Chen Ruoguang, was not worthy of her Yumo, but Shen Yumo didn’t think the same. Shen Yumo had a rather low self-esteem for herself and didn’t think of herself as anyone special. Maybe she needs to change her prescription because she is missing out!

“Think of it as getting closure for those years you spent with him.”

“Of course, I will go with you as your wife.” Jiang Ziquan said seriously with a sullen expression, “You need to let others know that he was the one who was dumped, not you.”

Whenever Jiang Ziquan acted seriously, it made it easier for people to believe in her words. Shen Yumo felt moved by her concern and silently nodded her head.

Seeing that she had achieved her goal, Jiang Ziquan felt much better and began to calculate in her head. She was calculating how to steal the groom and bride’s limelight at this wedding.

Since Shen Yumo didn’t have any classes in the afternoon and Jiang Ziquan is a person of action, she immediately drove them to the shopping center to buy clothes. She had now completely forgotten the starving Chen Feng. Finally, in order to maximize the display of public affection, she begged, pleaded and almost threw a tantrum before finally getting Shen Yumo to agree to wear the engagement ring outside.

Shen Yumo couldn’t win against Jiang Ziquan and was dragged into the clothing store helplessly.

“A fairy should wear clothes that match her beauty.” Taking advantage of Shen Yumo’s confusion, Jiang Ziquan put her arm around Shen Yumo’s slender waist after saying such a cheesy line. The staff who were stunned by Shen Yumo’s beauty immediately sobered up after hearing these words.

Shen Yumo squirmed a little, but was unable to shake her off and could only glare at Jiang Ziquan.

Shen Yumo was not one to glare at others and the few times she did, they were all towards Jiang Ziquan. Jiang Ziquan wasn’t scared by her glare and leaned even closer to whisper in her ear, “I’m cold.”

Shen Yumo: “….”

Jiang Ziquan was a frequent visitor to this store, so the staff was already used to her outlandish behavior.

The stagg didn’t wait for Jiang Ziquan to speak, and immediately gathered some clothing that was suitable and handed it over to them with a smile.

Jiang Ziquan made sure that all the clothing had different colors and styles before handing them over to Shen Yumo for her to try on. They both had a similar body shape and size, although Jiang Ziquan was slightly taller.

When Shen Yumo came out with the first outfit, Jiang Ziquan could almost see stars in her eyes as she stared at Shen Yumo’s long legs.

“This dress really suits this lady.”

Jiang Ziquan agreed and stood up to circled around Shen Yumo. She felt that it really was a waste of beauty for Shen Yumo not to be a model, “Yumo, your legs are so long and you look really beautiful.”

Shen Yumo smiled, feeling a little embarrassed by her praise. In her opinion, if they were talking about whose figure was the best, she felt that Jiang Ziquan’s was better.

“Let’s buy it.” Jiang Ziquan waved her hand, obviously very happy.

“I’ll pay for it myself.” Although Shen Yumo liked this dress, she felt it was better if she used her own money.

“Then buy mine too.” Jiang Ziquan didn’t care and smiled. This was another scheme she came up with to get Shen Yumo to spend the money she had worked hard for. In her mind, she calculated that at a certain point, Shen Yumo will refuse to use her own money and that’s when she will spend Jiang Ziquan’s money instead.

Shen Yumo: “?”

Store clerk: “ ????? “

Jiang Ziquan ignored their confused expression and picked up a scandalous looking red dress that had a high slit. She went into the dressing room and then came back out with an idle expression. The deep v-neck dress showed off her figure, her two long legs wouldn’t lose out even to Shen Yumo. Turning around, the dress revealed a bare white and beautiful back, as if teasing the viewer. It gave off an aura of a tantalizing and alluring woman.

“Does it look good?”

Shen Yumo looked at the seductress in front of her and her expression stiffened, her face turning red. She didn’t even dare to look Jiang Ziquan in the eyes and nodded awkwardly. Even a heavenly fairy like her wouldn’t be able to resist her temptations.

Feeling very satisfied by this reaction, Jiang Ziquan handed her a similar looking black dress to her and said in an enticing tone, “Try this one, dear beauty.”

Shen Yumo stumbled into the dressing room and looked at the revealing clothes in her hands, not knowing ether to start.

Jiang Ziquan, on the other hand, was feeling very content and waited patiently outside. After a while, she saw Shen Yumo peek her head out and said while blushing, “Come over here for a moment.”

Hearing those words, Jiang Ziquan hurriedly walked over and entered the room.

Shen Yumo fidgeted, not knowing where to put her hands, and tried to hide the more exposed parts of her skin.

They were the same type of clothes, but on Shen Yumo it looked like a fairy had descended on the world. Noble, elegant, and restrained, she was a beauty that could topple empires and light the world on fire.

Shen Yumo stepped back a little. Jiang Ziquan’s expression looked like she wanted to swallow her alive, her chestnut eyes full of an indescribable longing. Only after she coughed a few times did Jiang Ziquan’s eyes return to normal.

“Yumo, you are so beautiful.”

The room was tiny, and Shen Yumo could feel her face burn up at Jiang Ziquan’s words. The ambiguous tension swirled between them, and she scolded herself for being tricked into putting on these clothes.

Jiang Ziquan stepped forward, the dress opening to revealing her slender legs again.

Shen Yumo stared at that exposed skin, and her face couldn’t be more red. She thought it was because she had never seen a girl as bold as Jiang Ziquan before and didn’t dare to move.

“What are you doing?”

Jiang Ziquan leaned closer and looked down. She was looking at Shen Yumo’s legs and then she looked at her own, “It turns out that our legs are roughly the same length….they’re both really long.”

She suddenly broke out into a smile.

Shen Yumo looked at Jiang Ziquan like she was looking at an idiot.

“I’m taller because my upper body is a little longer, so when I’m this close, they don’t look at long as yours.” Jiang Ziquan didn’t mind the look coming from Shen Yumo and continued.

“Yes, we both have long legs.” Shen Yumo didn’t want to continue this boring topic anymore and shooed Jiang Ziquan out.

Under Jiang Ziquan’s coaxing and pestering, Shen Yumo also bought the black dress.

Jiang Ziquan quickly went out to buy some milk tea for Shen Yumo, but at the same time took a smoke break. She fiddled with the jade hanging around her neck as she inhaled the smoke. Back there, she had almost lost her mind. When she saw Shen Yumo in that dress, her mind just went blank and her body moved forward without her noticing. It was like a spell was cast on her and her body didn’t belong to her anymore. She had wanted to do something unspeakable to Shen Yumo.

Fortunately, at the time, the jade around her neck started to heat up and she quickly recovered. Thinking that Shen Yumo must have been frightened, she quickly changed the subject by teasing her. I think I need to find the time to arrange for a checkup at the hospital. She put out her cigarette.

When the two returned home, they found Chen Feng diligently doing his homework. Seeing him, Jiang Ziquan was both relieved and embarrassed at the same time. She had completely forgotten that this kid hadn’t eaten yet while she took her wife shopping.

Shen Yumo hadn’t forgotten and that’s why she urged Jiang Ziquan to come back earlier.

Chen Feng jogged to Jiang Ziquan’s side and reminded her to buy the concert tickets for him. He specifically emphasized the fact that he didn’t even eat lunch so he could study. In the past, he would always come home and eat, not caring about his studies at all.

Jiang Ziquan glanced at the busy Shen Yumo for a second and then patted Chen Feng’s shoulder, but did not speak.

After dinner, Shen Yumo tutored Chen Feng as he finished his homework beside her. Seeing this peaceful scene, Jiang Ziquan imagined that in the future Shen Yumo would tutor their kids like this as well.

This scene was so beautiful, that she didn’t want to go back to work at all. Instead, she grabbed her unfinished sketch and wanted to draw a few more strokes with the real person in front of her. At the same time, she also warmed up two glasses of milk.

Except maybe because Chen Feng’s basic knowledge was too lacking and on several occasions, Shen Yumo blinked her eyes several times in succession. This was a sign that the patient Shen Yumo was getting angry.

Jiang Ziquan was originally painting quietly, but her ears perked up as she listened to Shen Yumo’s lecture. After listening for a little while, Jiang Ziquan was able to understand, but the confused little boy did not. He, however, was focused on drinking his glass of milk instead of listening, so Jiang Ziquan kicked him angrily.

“What are you doing?” Shen Yumo’s hand stopped and she frowned at her.

“I-”

Jiang Ziquan hadn’t even finished speaking yet when Shen Yumo handed her the English test questions that Chen Feng was doing earlier and said, “Correct this for me.”

“Ah?”

“You should be able to understand this, right?” Shen Yumo gave her a look and then turned around to continue gently guiding Chen Feng through the rest of the questions.

Jiang Ziquan blinked, looking at the English questions in front of her that she hasn’t seen in years. What does she mean by this?

The Chen Feng next to her also gave her a ‘I don’t know’ look, but seeing Sister Quan look so terrified of Shen Yumo, he finally listened attentively.

Jiang Ziquan spun her pen around a few times as she looked at the problems. Her actions looked cool, so Chen Feng couldn’t help but glance at his Sister Quan, and watched dazedly.

With Chen Feng watching her hand, Jiang Ziquan felt his gaze and then gave him a dismissive glance. She then quickly looked over at Shen Yumo. Although Teacher Shen had no expression on her face, she blinked twice. Jiang Ziquan could sense that trouble was brewing.

Jiang Ziquan sighed and then tidied up, “I’m going back to work.” She left and closed the door behind her.

Looking at the closed door, Shen Yumo felt a little guilty. Was her previous action a little too much?

“Teacher Shen, how do I do this problem?”

Shen Yumo shook herself out of her thoughts and continued to teach Chen Feng, but not with the same focus as before.

After finishing his homework, Chen Feng propped his chin with his hands.

‘Teacher Shen, back then I was able to test into Beijin’s First High School, but I chose Mingxing, unlike Sister Quan who wasn’t didn’t have a choice. However, after years of hard work she was admitted into Jingyang University. Isn’t that a little ironic? Especially since her English was even worse than mine, but she was able to score 130 points.” At the time, after seeing her results, his family pressured him into going to the private school.

Shen Yumo listened and felt quite curious. As a teacher, she has seen many students who have made comebacks and made it into good colleges. However, it was her first time seeing someone make that big of a comeback like Jiang Ziquan did.

Chen Feng said that Jiang Ziquan’s language arts were so bad that she couldn’t even pass the high school examination. Only her science and maths were strong, but that wasn’t enough to make up for her poor language scores. Once a person enters high school will the strength of being a science student begins to show. Of course, although her sciences were strong, it wasn’t enough for her to become the top student.

However, in her third year, Jiang Ziquan was able to advance her language scores by leaps and bounds and was admitted into the prestigious Jingyang University.

After listening to this story, Shen Yumo grabbed the assignment she told Jiang Ziquan to correct. Although she only made a few marks, one could tell she was indeed being serious. Shen Yumo felt a little worried. She felt that her actions might have been seen as a provocation to Jiang Ziquan and an insult to her English skills. Was it too much? It seems like she needed to properly explain herself tonight.

T/N notes:

The National College Entrance Exam (NCEE or ‘gaokao’) is the national test that all students take to get into college in China. It’s out of 750 points but 150 points for each section and 300 for integrated subjects. So to get a score of 130/150 for English is really good.

I don’t really like dresses myself because they seem to get in the way when I run, but I imagine Jiang Ziquan’s dress to be something like this. The v-neck, high slit, and then the revealing back. Idk about you, but I think I’ll be more comfortable in my jeans, thank you very much.

  1. — Thanks for the chapter~ ^^.

My sister looks good in those dresses but she also doesn’t want to wear them, she really avoids them unless necessary, so it really depends on the individual whether they like wearing those or not.

I’m also not much of a dress person, Ill wear them for formals but aside, I’m all for athleisure. My sister finds dresses comfy in the summer however, so there’s all types.
