Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.26

Jiang Ziquan tied a belt around her waist and found that it made her look slimmer. Then she looked over at Shen Yumo who was wearing a scarf and a dress that was very similar to hers. Add on the fact that both of them were wearing similar rings, anyone could tell that the two were in a relationship together and that made her feel satisfied inside.

“What’s the matter?” Shen Yumo asked as she noticed Jiang Ziquan staring at her. She stuck her hands into her pockets and tilted her head.

Jiang Ziquan shrugged. She was going to ask if Teacher Shen needed her to teach that scumbag a lesson. However, knowing Teacher Shen’s personality, she probably would be lectured instead. That would be more painful than being scolded by Chen Feng’s teacher again. She shook her head and reached for her car keys, “Nothing. Oh, right, remember to remind me to buy a few more cartons of milk. We’ve already finished all the ones at home.”

“Oh. Ok.” Shen Yumo nodded. Jiang Ziquan would always heat up the milk for her, so she did not know they were running out. Furthermore, every time they exchanged trivial conversations such as these, she didn’t know why, but she felt a warm sense of belonging and ease.

Jiang Ziquan nodded and went down into the garage to get the car. It was the one she got a few days ago and she hadn’t driven it around much. Originally, she wanted to buy a bright red one, but knowing Shen Yumo’s low-key mannerisms, she bought a silver one instead.

The two soon arrived at the wedding venue. Jiang Ziquan looked around the inside and it was considered to be quite grand for a small city like Beijin. She glanced at Teacher Shen and seeing that her face had a slightly sullen expression, Jiang Ziquan felt worried. She reached out and gently held her hand, trying to comfort her, “Let’s go.”

“En.” The warmth coming from Jiang Ziquan’s hand no longer felt strange to Shen Yumo and she quickly calmed herself as she walked in with Jiang Ziquan.

Dressed in a groom’s clothing, Chen Ruoguan’s lit up when he saw Shen Yumo and seeing how his relatives hadn’t noticed her yet, quickly walked over.

“Yumo, you’re here.” Chen Ruoguang nervously pushed up his glasses. These past few days, he had been worried and anxious, thinking that Shen Yumo would not attend. However, seeing her here, he felt that he at least still held a spot in Shen Yumo’s heart.

“En.” Shen Yumo nodded and continued, “Congratulations on your marriage.”

She blessed him with a smile.

Jiang Ziquan, on the other hand, wanted to throw this person into the Pacific Ocean, preferably with a chain and heavy rock tied around his ankle. However, on the surface she had to act like nothing was wrong. Holding Shen Yumo’s hand, she stepped forward and blocked Shen Yumo from Chen Ruoguan’s longing gaze and said: “Congratulations and I wish you a happy marriage. I hope to see another kid added to your family in the future.”

Chen Ruoguang also loathed seeing Jiang Ziquan with Shen Yumo and said through gritted teeth: “Thank you. Now, I would like to say a few words to Yumo. Alone.”

“That’s unnecessary.” Shen Yumo didn’t even give him a second glance and pulled Jiang Ziquan with her inside. Chen Ruoguang glared at them, but Jiang Ziquan felt incredibly happy and playfully stuck out a tongue at him.

Many of the guests inside knew Shen Yumo and whispered and pointed as she walked in. To give up on such a good man like Chen Ruoguang for a seductress, a woman who’s only good point was probably her pretty face. They even went as far as to say that once she grows old with no money, she will realize what a big mistake she has made.

Shen Yumo had been prepared for such a situation for a long time and drank her hot water calmly and even patiently answered Jiang Ziquan’s occasional questions.

Although Jiang Ziquan acted like she didn’t care, she couldn’t bear it in her heart. Why does Shen Yumo have to endure all this?

Seeing a waiter walk towards them, she deliberately turned so that her arm ‘accidentally’ pushed the man and he fell over, spilling the tea onto the gossiping person from earlier. The crowd went into chaos and the waiter didn’t know what happened as he apologized profusely.

Jiang Ziquan then noticed that the corner of her clothes was being pulled and the person beside her said, “Stop messing around and be more careful next time.”

This made Jiang Ziquan even happier. Shen Yumo had inadvertently agreed to her ‘teasing’ others. Then she can freely go through with the ‘wedding surprise’ she had set up for Chen Ruoguang.

The rest of the wedding ceremony was very boring. Jiang Ziquan clapped when she had to and yawned through the entire thing. During the dinner, she looked over at Shen Yumo. Seeing that her face had turned a little green, the bit of happiness in her heart completely disappeared and her heart ached.

“I wrote those vows.” Shen Yumo knew that Jiang Ziquan was worried about her and explained her discomfort. Of all things, she hadn’t expected that Chen Ruoguang would use the vows she wrote for them.

“What?” Jiang Ziquan slapped the table, looking at Shen Yumo with her head bowed, her face twisted, “I really haven’t seen someone as shameless as him, even daring to use someone else’s vows.”

She continued: “Wait here for me.”

“Huh?” Shen Yumo looked up, she didn’t understand. She watched as Jiang Ziquan weaved through the crowd, her long legs moving quickly. She was a little anxious about what Jiang Ziquan was going to do. Just as she prepared to go after her, Chen Ruoguang came to her table with his newly married wife on his arm.

“Yumo, these dishes are your favorite, you should enjoy them.” Chen Ruoguang smiled. It didn’t matter if he didn’t get to see Shen Yumo’s regretful expression, he felt quite satisfied at this turn of events.

Wang Jiajing just looked at her apologetically and pulled Chen Ruoguang to the next table. She knew that Shen Yumo probably didn’t want to see either of their faces right no: “Sorry to have bothered you, Teacher Shen.”

Shen Yumo watched the two people, arm in arm, painting a harmonious scene. Even as a person who rarely loses her temper, she couldn’t help but frown. If she wasn’t worried about Jiang Ziquan, she really might’ve burst out in anger.

“Wang Jiajing, what are you doing?”

Suddenly, those words blared out from the stereo, shocking the people around them. Everyone looked at the screen and saw the groom and bride in the video, they assumed it was a wedding slideshow or video prepared by the groom. Everyone stopped eating and set down their utensils as they watched.

“Shut it off!” Chen Ruoguang was also shocked to see this video. The wine in his glass swirled out of his glass, but he didn’t care that it got on his suit as he hurriedly waved a waiter down.

Jiang Ziquan had returned and saw that the crowd was already starting to grow chaotic, she felt a sense of glee. Seeing Wang Jiagin standing in front of Shen Yumo, she gave her a glare and then grabbed Shen Yumo’s hand, dragging her out of the venue.

“Wang Jiajing, you were only a side chick to me, a wh*re. Furthermore, I am marrying someone else today.”

“Ruoguang, are you not even going to acknowledge your child?”

“Daddy!”

The faces of Wang Jiajing’s relatives turned deathly pale. They had thought that Chen Ruoguang was only in a relationship, so as long as they weren’t married, Wang Jiajing would have a chance. However, they didn’t know that Wang Jiajing had appeared when Chen Ruoguang was in the middle of receiving his marriage certificate. They never expected that something like this would happen.

“No, this isn’t right, it wasn’t like this!” Chen Ruoguang desperately explained. Although he was shocked when Wang Jiajing mentioned his son, he did not say those ugly words.

Shen Yumo who only heard two words, gently tugged Jiang Ziquan’s clothes and asked, “This is the video from that day?”

“The video is, but some of the audio was added on later.” Jiang Ziquan sheepishly scratched her head. She had gathered together some of her friends to help her edit this video. Originally, she was going to secretly send the video to the couple and create tension between the bride and groom, but she hadn’t expected that Chen Ruoguang was shameless to this degree. She explained: “It was too chaotic at the time, so the audio wasn’t recorded.”

On the other side, Chen Ruoguang came out of his stunned daze and hurriedly followed them outside. He approached Jiang Ziquan and pointed an angry finger at her, “It was you, it must have been you who framed me!”

Chen Ruoguan’s clothes were stained with wine and a few crumbs clung to the fabric. His face had turned bright red from fury and he looked quite like the madman he was on that day Jiang Ziquan had proposed.

Why would Jiang Ziquan admit this was her fault? She quickly blocked Shen Yumo behind her back, protecting her. This was still Chen Ruoguang’s territory, so it would be no small matter if a fight broke out.

Shen Yumo gently pushed Jiang Ziquan to the side and then said coldly, “Maybe it was her, but everything in that video is the truth.”

Chen Ruoguang had never seen Shen Yumo look at him with such an icy gaze before and stepped back in shock. He stared blankly and opened his mouth, “Yumo, you-”

Shen Yumo didn’t spare him another glance and left him behind as she dragged Jiang Ziquan behind her.

Jiang Ziquan obediently followed behind. She was feeling quite shocked. Even the good-tempered Teacher Shen could still get angry. Was this what they meant when one sayseven the dog will jump over the wall when anxious?’

Oh, no, no, Teacher Shen was more like the saying, ‘even a rabbit will bite when angered.’

“Did I look that frightening just now?” As if reading Jiang Ziquan’s thoughts, Shen Yumo asked embarrassedly as she leaned against the car.

“No, no, not at all! You looked gorgeous!” Jiang Ziquan waved her hands hurriedly, her head shaking back and forth like a rattle. Her Teacher Shen is not frightening, but super cute and gentle.

Hearing her words Shen Yumo replied, “You are such a smooth talker.”

Jiang Ziquan then fumbled around in her purse and took out a piece of paper: “Although it’s not the original, I still think it’s better to return it to its rightful owner.”

Shen Yumo hesitantly accepted it and saw that it was the vows the bride and groom were reading off of earlier. She looked up at Jiang Ziquan who was watching her carefully. This unruly and chaotic person is always so considerate when it comes to me.

Her heart thawed a little and she said softly, “Thank you.”

Jiang Ziquan smiled but was not one to linger on one subject for long as she rubbed her belly. In the morning, she had slept in so she didn’t eat anything all day, “I’m feeling a little hungry. Can you cook something for me when we go home?”

Shen Yumo rummaged in her pockets and handed her a piece of chocolate, “Here, you can eat this first.”

Jiang Ziquan was delighted, she loved sweets the most. She accepted the candy and carefully held it in her hand. However, this was a gift from Shen Yumo, so she wasn’t sure if she should eat it or save it as a token.

“I gave that to you so you would eat it.” Shen Yumo said. Her words sounded somewhat pampering, “Let’s go outside and eat. It’s too much trouble to go home and cook.”

As Jiang Ziquan ate the chocolate, although the taste was bitter, her heart felt sweet.

Recently, Shen Yumo had been in charge of Jiang Ziquan’s diet. So with her reasonable food choices, Jiang Ziquan had gained back her weight and looked more energetic than before. To not let all this hard work go to waste, Jiang Ziquan obediently handed Shen Yumo the menu.

“You know that guy I was talking about? He abandoned his family and was lured into the arms of another woman. That woman is his boss but then he found out that the woman had seduced him so she could get with his wife he had abandoned. When he learned of this, he ran straight to his boss and asked her if she loved him or his wife more.”

Originally, Jiang Ziquan did not want to listen to such idle gossip but the girl’s voice was too loud and she threw out so many scandalous details. This world is full of so many unbelievable things. She rolled her eyes and muttered, “What a big pig trotter. [1]”

Shen Yumo looked up, seemed to consider something and then removed a few dishes.

“Yumo…this is?” Jiang Ziquan poked the braised pig trotters in front of her. Did Teacher Shen like to eat this kind of thing? Maybe she’s trying something new after that vegetarian diet of hers…

Shen Yumo pushed the pig’s trotters in front of Jiang Ziquan and said, “Didn’t you say you wanted to eat this?” Shen Yumo had made light meals for Jiang Ziquan these past few days so she thought that Jiang Ziquan had wanted to eat more meat and requested this.

Jiang Ziquan poked the pig trotters again with her chopstick and then recalled the gossip she had overheard from earlier. Her eyes widened. It turned out that her quiet muttering was heard by Teacher Shen, “Pfftt-”

“Why are you laughing?” Shen Yumo’s hand movements stopped. The perfectly fine plate of braised pig’s trotters was poked around ruthlessly by her and yet she’s still smiling. Shen Yumo frowned.

With no other choice, Jiang Ziquan had to explain the matter of pig’s trotters to her. After hearing her words, Shen Yumo was silent for a while and then smiled, “Then what should we do?”

“It’s fine, it’s not like it’s poison or anything.” Jiang Ziquan carefully picked up one and carefully nibbled on it. However, the trotters were too oily and now her good image was completely ruined by the oil around her mouth. Seeing Shen Yumo look at her strangely, she said, “Do you want some?”

Shen Yumo’s expressions seemed to say that those trotters are indeed poisonous.

Jiang Ziquan thought that maybe because of Teacher Shen’s dislike for meat that she was shocked by her appearing to eat meat so easily.

Then Jiang Ziquan imagined what she looked like right now. A perfectly fine woman covered in makeup now had her mouth covered in oil. If she now said something like, ‘it’s delicious!’ wouldn’t that just be adding fuel to the fire?

So was it because it was against her ethics or because she looked like a slob?

Meanwhile, Chen Ruoguang was still apologizing and tried to soothe things over. If Wang Jiajing’s parents didn’t have any political connections, he really wouldn’t have gotten married. With this one wedding, he not only lost face, but he also cost his father-in-law to lose face and now resulted in his father-in-law wouldn’t be so willing take care of him as much.

Therefore, Chen Ruoguang now hated Jiang Ziquan even more. First for snatching his wife and now for messing up his career. His eyes flashed with a cruel light.

“Is this the strawberry-flavored milk?” Jiang Ziquan grabbed the carton and looked closely. The packaging had changed a little so she was uncertain.

“Let me see.” Shen Yumo leaned closer and said, “It should be. They probably just changed the packaging.

Jiang Ziquan bought several cartons and saw that Shen Yumo was looking at her strangely, she explained, “Since everything Teacher Shen recommends tastes good, I thought I’ll give some to the employees as a New Year’s present.”

Shen Yumo smiled helplessly. Then chose a few more things that were more suited to be given to the employees. After all, she didn’t want the employees to tease her about her choice of drink.

Jiang Ziquan also reached out to grab a few bottles of wine but seeing Shen Yumo’s displeased expression, her hand stopped.

“This bottle is better.” Shen Yumo also understood that she was being too serious and embarrassedly gave her a bottle of fruit wine instead.

In her heart, Jiang Ziquan rolled her eyes, it would be better to drink soda than this.

A few days later, Shen Yumo’s school finally let out for winter vacation. Now that she found that she had nothing to do, she felt somewhat restless. Jiang Ziquan thought that this was the right timing and asked her if she wanted to go to Su Yan’s concert.

Shen Yumo looked at Jiang Ziquan’s expectant look and the slightly foolish grin agreed. She also wanted to know what kind of charm that Su Yan possessed to have bewitched so many of her students.

T/N notes:

[1] pig trotter: AKA pig’s feet, is used slang to say that a man is no good, useless, etc.

Also, please keep in mind that the winter vacation in china tends to be in late January to early March because that’s when Chinese New Year’s is.

  1. Oh wow, i know he was scum but he’s now been upgraded to super slag scum. He wanted Yumo but also wanted the Wang chick because her parents have political connections. Now he’s angry that his two-faced slag-ness has been exposed to his new in-laws? hahahaha.
I hope he gets all that he deserved and isnt able to cause any drama for our fluffy couple.

  4. ugh this mans about to do some dumb shit isn’t he. I wish more there was more nuance to antagonists in chinese novels. I thought maybe he would be one when he and yumo met and maturly ended their relationship at the cafe but I guess I was too hopeful.

  5. Hmm I feel his characterization or personality is a bit inconsistent. Maybe he’s just bipolar or knows how to act well? But like at the same time he was pretty forbearing with Yumo in their relationship I think, just he was too passive. Still very scummy and has less than reprehensible intentions. I think a little more maturity and depth to his character would have been nice, but oh well. I feel as if he could have been acutally a rather pitiable character ruined by circumstance and such, but ah author has decided to use him for faceslapping, which is alright I suppose, just a little common in CN webnovels. Having something different would have been a nice change of pace.
    Thank you for the translation!
