Epilogue

“Ehm…”

A quiet groan woke Jiang Ziquan up, her eyes squinting in the early morning twilight. She soothingly rubbed Teacher Shen’s calf, massaging the skin there. A faint humming sound came from the other person. 

Through the tiny streams of light, she saw Teacher Shen’s brows unfurrow and she opened her mouth to say something. Only, nothing came out and all she heard was the sound of steady breathing. 

Her hand slid up to gently touch the noticeable pregnant belly. This was her and Teacher Shen’s child. Thinking of this, she smiled and she kissed the other person’s face gently. 

“Teacher Shen, it’s time to get up.”

Ever since she was pregnant, Teacher Shen had been more and more tired, choosing to sleep in more than before. Jiang Ziquan rubbed her weary eyes and her vision cleared as she kissed Shen Yumo gently again. 

“En~” 

Teacher Shen’s voice was a little hoarse when she woke up and sounded like a lazy cat that was fed full of milk. 

“You have a check-up today.” Jiang Ziquan whispered softly, her hand running through Teacher Shen’s hair. A few days ago, Teacher Shen had gotten a haircut and her shortened hair gave her a ‘college student’ vibe. 

Teacher Shen, who had her hair played with, opened her eyes in surprise. Then she seemed a little embarrassed as she pulled the blanket closer to her, exposing only her head. “What?”

Jiang Ziquan stifled a laugh and jumped out of the bed without a word. She went to the closet and started rummaging through the clothes. Without lifting her head, she asked, “Which one do you want to wear?”

Shen Yumo was focused on her own arm and squeezed her arms that were now a little puffy. She then looked at Jiang Ziquan’s still thin arms and sighed, “Doesn’t matter.”

“This one then, you haven’t worn it before.” Jiang Ziquan took out one of the outfits they had bought a few days ago. “It’s also a little looser.”

Shen Yumo sat up and looked at the blue shirt-style dress in her hand, the pattern embroidered with exquisite workmanship. After a moment of silence, she said, “I think it looks better on you.” 

Jiang Ziquan could hear the subtle frustration in her tone and threw the outfit to the side. After going through several different sets, they finally choose clothing that satisfies them both. 

“Are you two going in for a check-up today?”

“Yes, mother.” Jiang Ziquan chopsticks stopped as she added, “We’re also going to Lin Cuo’s house after the appointment so you didn’t need to cook for us.”

Jiang Ziquan didn’t know how to cook and with Teacher Shen pregnant, they had to get takeout in the beginning. But the food was a little hard to swallow after a while and so they asked Teacher Shen’s mother to come to live them for a little bit. At the very least, it would be food that Teacher Shen was used to. 

“Alright, but don’t tire yourself out and make sure to stay away from crowds.” Mrs. Shen advised. 

“I know.”

After having lunch, they were ready to go to the hospital. 

When they changed into their shoes, Jiang Ziquan helped Teacher Shen sit on the chair and then personally helped her put on socks and shoes. Every time she did this, Shen Yumo felt like a blushing mess. She was pregnant, but she was fully capable of putting on her own shoes, however, Jiang Ziquan wouldn’t listen. 

When Mrs.Shen first saw this, she felt her daughter was benign a little too much. She thought her daughter was bullying Jiang Ziquan too much and privately told her to be nicer. 

“Ah? But mom, you misunderstood. She decided to do that by herself.” Shen Yumo’s face was flushed. Although she didn’t want to admit it, it was already good enough that she wasn’t the one getting bullied and teased by Jiang Ziquan every day. How can she bully someone like Jiang Ziquan whose thick skin was so thick that even a machine gun couldn’t get through it?”

“Really?” Mrs. Shen didn’t believe her, suspicion evident in her eyes. After all, Jiang Ziquan did not look like a person one can rely on for these matters. 

“Really.”

Now, Mrs. Shen would sneakily watch them and saw her own daughter’s blushing shyness. The lovey-dovey couple even made her feel a little overwhelmed. 

Jiang Ziquan waited at the door for Jiang Ziquan to drive the car out of the garage. The garage was not too far away and one could see it easily. However, Jiang Ziquan would always have the car window open when she backed out of the garage, so that she can keep an eye on Shen Yumo. It was like she was afraid that if she took her eyes off of Shen Yumo for one second, she would disappear. 

From this angel, Shen Yumo could only see her side profile. Jiang Ziquan’s makeup was very light and there were dark circles underneath her eyes, probably from staying up massing her last night. 

These days, she had noticed that Jiang Ziquan wore less makeup than usual. She would even go out without any makeup at all if she went out by herself. Even the changes in her clothing were obvious as she didn’t wear as revealing clothes as before. 

The honk of the car horn chattered her thoughts, pulling her back to reality. 

“What were you thinking about just now?”

Jiang Ziquan said while reversing.  

“Just thinking about how you seemed to have changed a little.” Shen Yumo said, shifting in her seat, her tone a little joking. 

“A change for the better or worse?”

Jiang Ziquan raised her eyebrows, did she reveal some ugly flaw she never knew she had?

“Um….” Shen Yumo paused, deliberately teasing her and then smiled: “It doesn’t matter if it’s good or bad, it’s cute no matter what.”

“Oh…”

Jiang Ziquan was stunned for a moment, the hands on the steering wheel tightening a little bit as her face turned red. 

“Wait, are you embarrassed?” Shen Yumo looked at her in surprise and stared at her face for a while before determining that Jiang Ziquan’s face was indeed red. 

“…”

It seemed like she was uncomfortable under her intense gaze and Jiang ZIquan retorted with a playful look, “Am I not allowed to be embarrassed?”

“No, it’s just strange.”

Shen Yumo got out of the car and looked around. Seeing no one around, she quickly kissed Jiang Ziquan’s cheek. 

Jiang Ziquan leaned forward, wrapping her hands around her waist, the corners of her mouth lifted up into a silly smile. 

After a series of examinations, the doctor gave them an overall summary: “All in all, there seems to be no probably. The weight gain is a little fast though.”

The both of them were a little nervous and now let out a sigh of relief. Jiang ZIquan gently squeezed Teacher Shen’s arm and watched the screen in front of them. 

In the image, one could vaguely seed the child’s little legs. Although it was only a vague image, it still made one feel that the little fellow was full of vitality. Jiang Ziquan felt both nervous and relieved at that. 

The old doctor had seen the same nervous look on so many young couples’ faces and comforted them. “Don’t worry so much, just keep up your simple exercises and get enough nutrition. You’ll be fine.”

“Thank you, doctor.”

When the two left, Shen Yumo touched her belly, I never expected that one day I would be troubled because of my weight.” 

Jiang Ziquan heard her words and looked her up and down. Compared to her previous self, teacher Shen was now a little round all over, unlike Su Yan who apparently only had her belly change during her pregnancy. 

“Well, this look makes me feel satisfied because it’s a testament to my good care.” Jiang Ziquan smiled and then said softly, “Not to mention, it feels good to hug you when you’re like this.”

“Huh, satisfaction?” 

“Have you never heard of fat happiness?” 

“Hah-”

“Let’s go, Lin Cuo is probably waiting for us.

The little girl had a pair of ink-black eyes that were the spitting image of Teacher Shen’s, but perhaps due to her young age, her eyes were brighter than her mother’s. The little girl stretched a fair and tender arm under the pillow and took out a book. 

Jiang Ziquan looked at the cover, and the title was 《Andersen’s Classic Fairy Tales》. The little girl probably wanted her to read her a story, a task usually left to her other mom. She glanced at the serious expression on her daughter’s face and sighed. She felt like it was really strange, this little girl was obviously spoiled by both her and Teacher Shen and yet the girl’s personality was not like either of them.

Teacher Shen’s personality had become more and more open these past few years, so this little daughter of theirs should’ve grown up as a carefree little princess and not the serious girl in front of her. She was even more serious than Teacher Shen used to be. 

Jiang Ziquan cleared her throat, “Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful girl. She had a vicious stepmother and two evil stepsisters-”

“I’ve already heard that one.”

“Huh?”

“Mom already read that one before.”

Jiang Ziquan nodded her head. Her daughter was only five and yet had such an astounding memory. She flipped a couple of pages to the next story and then the story after that. However, each one of the little girl said she had heard it before. She had read all the stories in the book by now. 

Jiang Ziquan felt frustrated as she had no stories left to tell. 

Shen Yumo walked in the door, breastfeeding their other child as she gently hummed an unknown tune, “Qinglan isn’t asleep yet?”

Jiang Ziquan raised the book in her head, motioning for Shen Yumo to save her and tell a story instead. However, Shen Yumo didn’t seem to notice as she found a chair and sat down: “Let me listen to your story too.”

Jiang Ziquan pursed her lips, but finally, after thinking for a while she said, “Ok, I’ve decided. I’m going to tell you a different version of ‘Cinderella.’ Once upon a time, there was a prince who held a ball. An old lady helped a poor little girl transform into a noble lady with a beautiful set of clothes and a pair of crystal shoes. Cinderella was very happy as she danced at the ball but left in a hurry, leaving behind a crystal slipper.”

With a dissatisfied tone, Shen Qinglan continued, “then the prince found Cinderella and they lived happily ever after.” 

“No.” Jiang Ziquan smiled cryptically, “That’s not how the story ends.” 

With this sentence, even Shen Yumo was curious as to what happens next. 

“The old lady knew that Cinderella didn’t have a lot of time and felt uneasy. So she hurried back to help her, only to find the crystal slipper left lying on the ground. She opened the door and found Cinderella sweeping the floor, cooking the food, and carrying in the water. The old woman had never seen such a hard-working woman like her. In her eyes, the tough and resilient Cinderella was even more beautiful than when she wore those dazzling clothes. In the end, she recognized that this was love and told Cinderella that she loved her. Although Cinderella was surprised by the confession, she still rejected her in the end.”

Under her daughter’s bright eyes, she continued, “The old woman stayed with Cinderella and helped her through her woes. She helped her clean and helped her teach her vicious stepmother and evil stepsisters a lesson. After some time, Cinderella finally fell for her sincerity and couldn’t help but kiss the old woman on her lips. However, she didn’t expect that in a flash of light the old woman had turned into a beautiful young maiden. The maiden told Cinderella that she was actually cursed, a fairy that fell for someone’s schemes and the spell could only be broken by a true love’s kiss. The fairy then returned to the Heavens with Cinderella, where the pair lived happily ever after.” 

By the time she finished, the little girl was fast asleep. Jiang Ziquan gently kissed her cheek: “Good night my princess.” 

After returning to their bedroom, TEacher Shen put her younger daughter into the cradle beside them: “You combined the stories of ‘The Frog Prince’ and ‘Cinderella’ to create your story.”

It was a statement, not a question. 

Jiang Ziquan smiled, “I think my ending was the best. Let the annoying prince live by himself, he didn’t deserve Cinderella.”

“I’ll take over the stories in the future, lest you teach our child something bad,” Shen Yumo patted her younger daughter gently. Their youngest looked more like Jiang Ziquan, and her peach blossom eyes indicated her looks would be as extraordinary in the future.

Seeing Teacher Shen not coming to bed and continuing to watch over their daughter, Jiang Ziquan hugged her from behind as she whispered into her ears, “Then, Teacher Shen, I want to hear the adult version of ‘Cinderella’ please.” 

Shen Yumo’s body stiffened and then relaxed when she saw her daughter was fast asleep: “Okay.” Then turning around, she extended her index finger.

“?” 

“What do you mean by that?” Jiang Ziquan felt confused and she saw that Teacher Shen’s eyes were a little scary. 

Seeing that the other person didn’t understand, Shen Yumo coughed uncomfortably and then extended her right hand. She formed a circle with her thumb and index finger and then poked her left index finger through the hole. 

Jiang Ziquan instantly understood what she meant. Once in a while, she didn’t mind being the one serviced. She immediately rolled on the bed, offering herself up for the slaughter. 

Shen Yumo glanced at their sleeping daughter again: “Be quiet, don’t wake her up.”

“I know.”

Jiang Ziquan agreed quickly, but her voice didn’t even quiet down when she said that. Originally, Teacher Shen had wanted to use this chance to punish Jiang Ziquan a little, but right when she was so close to the edge. unexpectedly, Teacher Shen stopped and went to check on the stirring baby.

The person left on the bed felt like she was so close to paradise only to lose it. 

After a while, the little baby was fast asleep again. 

“Teacher Shen.”

“En?” Shen Yumo hummed, turning to look behind her before looking back down at her sweetly sleeping baby. 

“I love you.” There was a silly smile in her voice as she said that. 

“….En.” Shen Yumo patted the baby and looked back with a smile on her face: “I love you too.”

Yay, another work finished! Am I sad? Kinda, I will miss the teasing Jiang Ziquan and the blushing Shen Yumo, but alas I must move on! I liked CAB enough because it was so fluffy, but I really wanted to see how Lin Cuo and Yu Chengjia would end up!! Why do I always get so invested in the side characters more than the leads? Anyhow, let us continue our journey into the next Yuri work! Onward comrades, let us continue our adventure!
