Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.6

After hanging up, Jiang Ziquan put out her smoke and reached up, cracking her stiff neck.

“Dinner time.” Lin Cuo carefully set the dishes on the table and called out to her friend who was still smiling like a crazy woman.

“Oh, coming.”

DuDuDu!

She hadn’t even taken two steps yet and her cell phone rang again. This time it was her brother, Jiang Zitao.

“You must be busy.” Lin Cuo teased but didn’t eat and instead pulled out a chair for Jiang Ziquan.

“Hello, brother.”

“Ziquan, have you seen the news yet? You and the little lady have become famous!” Jiang Zitao sullenly said, he never expected that his sister would steal his limelight even on his wedding day.

“What? What news?” Jiang Ziquan frowned. She had no clue what her brother was talking about.

“So, it sounds like you don’t know yet.” Jiang Zitao quickly sent her a video: “Someone posted a video of your marriage proposal on the Internet. Here, take a look.”

Jiang Ziquan swiped it open, and although the video quality was poor, one can still see the two main subjects. Not to mention, both of them were beautiful, so there was a staggering amount of views. With the small number of beauties in this small city, their identities would most likely be found out sooner or later.

However, Jiang Ziquan didn’t care. She even thought this might be good publicity for her restaurant. But Shen Yumo…..

“Is everything okay?” Lin Cuo had watched Ziquan’s face slowly turn pale and couldn’t help asking.

“Brother, do you have a friend that is a hacker or tech expert? This video needs to be taken down immediately.” Jiang Ziquan frowned, she had just remembered that today’s event, to the average person, was more exciting than a regular tv drama, so it could possibly get out of hand.

And since Shen Yumo is a teacher, she couldn’t allow such a stain on Yumo’s record.

Jiang Zitao froze. This unexpectedly serious side of his little sister was a rare sight to see: “Of course I can help, but with how popular this video is, you better be prepared for some trouble.”

“I know.” Jiang Ziquan bit her lower lip, she didn’t want to cause any troubles for her innocent Shen Yumo, “Oh, right, can you bring me a change of clothing? I’m staying over at Lin Cuo’s place.”

Jiang Zitao smiled on his side: “Did you forget that today was my wedding? It’s time for the wedding festivities, why would I go over there? Also, why are you at Lin Cuo’s place?”

“Because Shen Yumo’s home is over here.” Jiang Ziquan said straightforwardly and bluntly hung up the phone.

Jiang Zitao looked down at his phone and felt a little worried. Was it okay for his sister to care so much about someone she barely knows?  Although he did help her with the proposal, it was only because the Jiang family allowed their children to marry anyone they wished, as long as they loved them. However, he wasn’t quite sure if his sister proposed because she wanted to help Shen Yumo or genuinely fell in love. After all, his sister’s naturally kind personality was nothing to scoff at.

“What happened?” Lin Cuo was even more worried as her friend’s mood worsened.

Did she discover that Shen Yumo had plotted a devious scheme against her? Was her friend regretting the marriage now?

Jiang Ziquan glanced at Lin Duo and then passed her cell phone over.

Lin Cuo took it curiously, and then watched the video before teasing: “This a really good show! In this type of situation, you actually pulled off a proposal and succeeded!”

Jiang Ziquan had her head bowed, ignoring Lin Cuo. Although she did not regret proposing, her proposal was treated nothing more than a good show. It made her feel upset.

From behind the door to her room, Shen Yumo knew her parents were upset as she listened to the footsteps pacing back and forth.

“If you have something to say, mom, then come in and say it.” Shen Yumo sighed.

Mrs. Shen heard her words and froze, and glanced at Mr. Shen beside her, who was also silent but with a bit of helplessness in his eyes.

For these types of things, it would be better for the mother to initiate the conversation.

Gently closing the door behind her, Mrs. Shen walked into the room.

“Y-Yumo, what are your thoughts on everything that happened today?” Mrs. Shen hesitantly took a few steps forward and sat down at the foot of the bed, next to her daughter.

“Mom, tell me the truth. Did you think that Chen Ruoguang and I were doomed from the very beginning?” Shen Yumo didn’t answer the question and instead asked a question of her own with a soft voice and tears in her eyes.

“Oh, honey, why would we think that?” Mrs. Shen hurriedly waved her hands, and then gently hugged her daughter. However, Mrs. Shen trembled slightly as she said her next words: “Your father and I may have guessed that your relationship with him wouldn’t work out.

“Guessed?”

Mrs. Shen loosened her arms, and looked at her daughter, gently wiping Shen Yumo’s tears: “You should also know that Grandpa’s fortunes are never wrong.”

Shen Yumo looked up at her mother. As a teacher, she should be a strong advocate for science, however, her grandfather’s abilities weren’t confined by the rules of science.

“When your father was only eight, your grandfather predicted the future and said that I would meet your father when I turned 24 and married at 25. He even predicted I would have a daughter that same year.”

Thinking about this, Mrs. Shen sighed. Yumo’s grandfather really is a strange man with strange abilities.

“Likewise, when you turned eight, he foretold your fortune. Do you remember?”

“This girl shall grow up to be virtuous and gentle, and if she marries at 16:00 in the Wuxu year, of the Guihui month and the Bingwu day, her marriage shall be full of happiness and bliss.” [1]

“That’s right,” Mrs. Shen smiled bitterly, “And what happens if you miss that time?”

“Both family lines shall succumb to an unfortunate fate, and the fortunate groom will be plagued with illness forevermore.” These words were branded into Shen Yumo’s body, and try as she might to run from them, she was afraid. Afraid of what would happen if they come true. Therefore, driven crazy by this fortune and believing that Jiang Ziquan’s words contained no malice, she went and got a certificate.

“Yes, and when you went to get married, your father and I felt that something wasn’t right. If you knew the person before, then why didn’t your grandfather include the time of your meeting with Chen Ruoguang?” At the time, Mrs. Shen felt that it was strange, however, since it wasn’t easy for Shen Yumo to agree to the marriage, she didn’t say anything and let it go. She thought that as long as Shen Yumo got married on time, everything would turn out fine.

But she never expected a girl named Jiang Ziquan to suddenly appear.

Shen Yumo didn’t know what to say and her mind was in a mess. However, in the end, it was still her fault and she felt sorry for Miss Jiang.

“Anyways, Yumo, from what I saw, the girl is a good person. She has a good character along with good looks. Alright, this matter has gone this far, so you should at least try and get along with her. If it really is unbearable, you can leave her. Your father and I aren’t afraid of some curse.” Mrs. Shen gently patted her daughter’s hand and smiled. She only had this one daughter, naturally, she wanted Yumo to be happy.

Shen Yumo looked at her mother’s face, now old and dotted with wrinkles. Things have already progressed to this level, with only herself to blame. Her parents are now old and tired, and she couldn’t do anything else, might as well grit her teeth and weather through this storm.

“I know.”

Shen Yumo made up her mind. If one year later, she still didn’t like Jiang Ziquan, as long as she didn’t fall in love with someone else, she’ll stay with Jiang Ziquan and spare her parents from a curse.

“So, how did it go?” Shen Shizong hurriedly asked as he saw his wife coming out.

“I think she’s mostly convinced.”

Mrs. Shen looked at the closed door, feeling a little anxious in her heart. She sincerely hoped that little Jiang was someone she could entrust her daughter’s happiness too.

Shen Yumo limply lay on her bed looking at the ceiling and chuckled derisively to herself.

When she was younger, she had dreamed about this day. She dreamed about an honest man with gold-framed glasses who would sweep her off her feet, but the reality was a wild Miss Jiang who wore a casual outfit as they received their certificates.

The only thing that her dreams and reality had in common, was that fair and slender hand.

Suddenly, she remembered she was going to see Miss Jiang’s family tomorrow afternoon, and since she had classes tomorrow, she needed to call time off from the school.

Taking out her phone, suddenly a few pieces of candy came rolling out of her purse.

She crouched down and picked them up carefully and remembered that these were given to her by Miss Jiang. On the candy’s wrapper, there was a big smiley face, just like that wild Miss Jiang’s smile. Shen Yumo didn’t know why, but as she thought of this, she also smiled.

Tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.

On the other end, Jiang Ziquan laid on the sofa and played the video over and over again. Sometimes frowning, and sometimes laughing like a fool.

“Are you really not coming to the bedroom to sleep?” Lin Cuo called out to Jiang Ziquan for the nth time. Based on their close relationship, sleeping in a bed together wasn’t a problem, they were virtually sisters.

“I’m married now.” Jiang Ziquan answered without even looking up, her fingers still fiddling with her phone.

Lin Cuo rolled her eyes helplessly and grabbed a blanket from her closet. Spreading it carefully over Ziquan’s body she said: “It’s fine and all for you to be like this for Shen Yumo’s sake, but take care of yourself and don’t catch a cold.”

“I know.” From under the covers, only Jiang Ziquan’s two eyes could be seen. She liked to hide under her blankets when she slept, so generally, she wouldn’t be able to catch a cold.

“En.” Lin Cuo nodded and walked away, disappearing from Jiang Ziquan’s vision.

Then Jiang Ziquan clicked on the video again. This video was more complete than the last one, heck it even had a part that Jiang Ziquan didn’t know about.

At the beginning of the video, it starts with Shen Yumo and Chen Ruoguang sitting together, with an occasional smile or small talk here and there. A few minutes later, Chen Ruoguang left, probably going to the bathroom and Shen Yumo had her eyes closed, a gentle smile on her face. Then, Shen Yumo left and returned 10 minutes later, with two bottles of water in her hands and her hair slightly messed up. This was probably due to when Jiang Ziquan had bumped into her. Then Chen Ruoguang glanced at his phone, and his expression changed. He said something to Shen Yumo and they parted ways. She went to the bathroom, and he went outside.

As soon as he stepped out the door, he saw Wang Jiajing (the mistress) and his expression became even more distorted. He walked over to her and at first, their argument seemed small, then the volume continued to grow louder and a crowd began to gather.

After a while, Shen Yumo also stepped out and froze. She stared at him and he stared back. Looking at the child, Shen Yumo seemed to understand everything and turned around to leave.

As for what happened next, Jiang Ziquan was well aware of it.

Every time she replayed it, her heart broke. This type of man who had a bastard child wanted to touch her fairy.

She was fortunate to have proposed at that time, or she might have regretted it for the rest of her life.

She swiped through the comments, some praised her actions, others had insulting words. However, none of that mattered. What mattered is that Shen Yumo will be her wife and she would be Shen Yumo’s wife.

T/N notes:

[1] Wuxu, Guihui, and Bingwu are part of an old Chinese way of separating the different days, months, and years. It’s like calling the first month of the year ‘January’ and it’s just giving titles to them. So the equivalent is the year 8102, November 11. There is no real ‘translation’ if you want to stay true to the text, so I kept it in Pinyin form. I hope this cleared it up, if you have any questions, please ask below.

Sidenote: I liked this chapter because the part with Shen Yumo dreaming about a future with a boy she loved gave her character some depth. She didn’t want to be held down by some curse and wanted to live a life with someone she loves. Idk, just some thoughts. I like character development ok, sue me.

  1. Indeed it was all due to the grandpa’s fortune, interesting and a little weird, but sure I’ll take it lol.

It seems Yumo will try and love Ziquan which is good both of them seemed to have been into sausage before but are no willing to go for the clam special which is quite interesting, it’s nice seeing them be willing to try it and find each other beautiful.

I do like seeing the conflict of entering a lesbian relationship and seeing the characters change their mindset to be open to Yuri but this is also nice once in a while, both girls being fine with the clamboni.

Interested to see Yumo fall for Ziquan.

And indeed Ziquan’s family seems very nice haha.

  2. Bruh Altair 🤣
    Pfft
Also yes TL I agree Yay character development, after seeing a bit more of her perspective it’s a little clearer and she feels more fleshed out.
    Thank you for the translation!
