Chapter 60-Beastmen

“Welcome back, dear players.”

When Gu Anran opened her eyes, she heard the system’s familiar voice enter her ears and saw the familiar white space surrounding her.

“Uh….we’re back?” Hong Qingyi got up slowly, holding her aching head. 

“Yes, because you were only allowed to stay in that world so long as the female lead and supporting female lead were still alive. Naturally, because both esteemed players and the female lead/supporting female lead have died, the two of you were sent back here.” The system explained. 

So that’s how it is….Gu Anran stared at her hands which were supposed to be covered in wrinkles and marred with the scars of old age. Yet, her skin has once again turned back into the fair and tender skin they were supposed to be. It was like the sixty-odd years she had lived was just a dream. But, bits and pieces of her life in that world still stuck in her mind, reminding her that it was indeed all true. 

Ah…..it had felt agonizing to watch their lovers die in their arms…..at least they had lived a very happy life with them….

“So what about the next world? Speaking of, what happened to your Fatty form?” Gu Anran patted the dust off her clothes and stood up. 

“You’re the Fatty, your whole family is a FATTY! Hmph!” The system arrogantly said. Please, this system was ‘abused’ when I became a rabbit! This baby has no love for rabbits anymore! 

“So how many points do we have left?” Gu Anran ignored the system’s grumblings and directly changed the subject. 

“Let me see….about 57,500 points left.” The system replied. 

Gu Anran and Hong Qingyi glanced at each other. As long as no accidents occur in the next world, they should be able to stay after their missions are completed. 

“Now that the two of you are awake, let’s first allocate the points and then transmigrate again!”

“I think you should just allocate our points directly into the strength category from now on. Since we only have two choices anyways, might as well go with that one. No need to ask us again.” Hong Qingyi said. 

“Ahh, my secrets have been revealed!” The system said in a surprised voice. 

“Do you think we are idiots?!” Gu Anran slapped the brainless ball of light. 

“Ok~, Ok~, I understand already…” The system stumbled in the air and then said in an aggrieved voice, 

“From now on I will directly add the points to your strength stats, ok?” 

“En.” Gu Anran and Hong Qingyi nodded.

“Alright, then before we proceed through with the next transmigration, this system must announce something! Because you two, my dear players, have now transmigrated through three different worlds. You should be used to the main missions as well, so this system will now assign the dear players to random character roles. It may be a random passerby, the villain lead, or the close confidant of the heroine~ Maybe even cannon fodder~ Of course, this system is fair and will let the dear players adapt to this new change by making the next world much easier. After listening to the system’s words, Gu Anran didn’t even have time to complain when she began freefalling again. 

“Wuuu…..” Gu Anran swayed to her feet, the darkness around her causing her to jump a little. 

Don’t tell me I’ve transmigrated into some kind random cannon fodder role!!! 

“Awwoooo!” 

Gu Anran’s eyes widened. Just now, she had wanted to shout “Is anyone there?”, but the only sounds that came out was a howl. 

No, it can’t be- 

“Awoo….Awoooooo!!!” Gu Anran would not give up and kept screaming but still, no words came out. She raised her hand, no it was more accurate to say she raised her paw, and…it was covered in white fur. Just what did she become? 

Gu Anran rubbed her furry face and then tried to turn her head to look at her own body which was now covered in snow-white fur and gleamed beautifully under the moonlight. 

The original body had night-vision eyes and she could run and jump without much effort. As she jumped around, she gradually became accustomed to her new body and began to observe her surroundings. She seemed to be in a roughly two-meter high and four square foot wide wooden hut. There were some small appliances and furniture in the room such as the soft pillow she was lying on when she woke up and the slightly tall table not too far away. There seemed to be something placed on the table and when she sniffed it, the smell was sweet and pleasant but she still didn’t know what those things were. 

Did I become someone’s pet? Gu Anran tilted her head to think but her exhausted body quickly forced her to enter the world of dreams. 

Slowly, the sky began to lit up as the sun rose and the sunlight poured in from the window to shine on the soft white furball. 

“Wuu…ahhhaa~” Gu Anran slowly opened her eyes and yawned. She shook her messy hair and then stood up lazily. 

Hmmm…the weather was nice today. 

Grumble…..

Gu Anran’s belly made a loud sound….she’s…hungry!

Gu Anran licked her hungry and shriveled up belly sadly when she remembered the sweet thing she had smelled yesterday. 

Bang…

Gu Anran jumped onto the table lightly and studied the ‘things’….it seemed they were some kind of pill? Could she eat something like this? 

Gu Anran grabbed one and sniffed it hesitantly. At this close distance, she could tell the smell was the sweet fragrance of herbs. Why would there be some kind of strange medicine in an animal’s room? Could it be this world’s animal food? 

While Gu Anran pondered this, a sudden uproar of noises rang out from outside.

“Young Miss! Young Miss!” 

“Boss! Everyone is waiting for you outside!” 

A flurry of young and immature voices shouted from outside and they even banged on her door. The sudden noises shocked the Gu Anran who was lost in thought and as a result, her hand shook and the pill fell directly into her mouth. 

Gulp. 

Ah….I swallowed it…… I hope this thing isn’t poisonous ( Your thoughts are a little too delusional. Who would put a bunch of poisonous things in their pet’s room? Unless they have a strange perversion ←←)

Gu Anran, who had swallowed the unknown object and now had a headache form the growing noises outside yelled angrily, 

“So noisy!” 

The noises outside quieted immediately like it was never there in the first place. However, Gu Anran couldn’t care less about that! She cared more for the fact that…

“I can talk! This thing allows animals to talk!” 

Although her voice was that of an adolescent female, she could at least talk now. Looking at the pile of pills on the table, Gu Anran jumped happily. She didn’t have to sould like a stupid animal anymore! 

She quickly recovered from her surprise and licked her fur as she strutted over to the door. She opened the door only to be frightened by the crowd of furry heads popping up in front of her. 

“What are you guys doing?” 

“Nothing. Nothing.” 

The little heads immediately shrank back and Gu Anran could now get a good look at them. They were all about the same size as her but their fur were all different colors. Most of them black or brown and their eyes were mostly cyan. Wait, do dogs have those eye colors? But no matter how you look at them…they were obviously wolves!

“Anran, what’s the matter with you?” Seeing that Gu Anran was lost in a daze a little wolf with beautiful silver-gray fur ran up to her, her voice soft and caring when she asked the question. 

“Ah? I’m fine, I’m fine, I just wasn’t fully awake yet.” Gu Anran shook her head quickly when information about this little silver wolf appeared in her mind. 

Bai Qing, the best friend, and playmate of the original owner of this body. They grew up together and were practically inseparable. 

“Is that so?” Bai Qing rubbed her face against Gu Anran’s and then licked some of Gu Anran’s unruly fur out of the way. 

“Um….Bai Qing, it feels itchy!” When Bai Qing began to lick her body, she felt her face blush red. Although she was a wolf now, it still felt rather embarrassing! 

“Ok, ok.” Bai Qing patted down the last of the messy fur on Gu Anran’s buttocks and looked at Gu Anran’s somewhat shy (ashamed) face with a gentle and doting look. 

Uh…is it just my imagination or is this girl looking at with some strange eyes! Gu Anran thought slowly. 

“Let’s go eat breakfast!” 

“I heard it’s beef today!” 

“Really? That’s awesome!” 

The crowd of wolves discussed excitedly about their breakfast and surrounded Gu Anran and Bai Qing as they arrived at a large warehouse-like building

As soon as she entered the building, Gu Anran was speechless at the sight. The inside was as big as ten basketball courts combined together and inside were many different types of animal cubs. Some tables were empty and some have been occupied. Already, many leopards had gathered around one table to tear apart the meat placed on their table. 

And when Gu Anran and the other arrived, a plate of roasted meat was placed on their table and exuded a strong and irresistible aroma. 

Gu Anran, who is weak with hunger, didn’t even notice that their food was served by what looked like a human but not quite a real human as the person had animal ears on their head and tails protruding from their buttocks.  

The meat was essentially just a cow roasted whole! Gu Anran swallowed her drool and as if she had done this a dozen times, her paws stretched out and tore off a piece of meat that was 3 times larger than her own body. 

And when Gu Anran finished grabbing her piece, the other wolves rushed in and started gnawing at the meat. 

My word….no need to be this dramatic! Gu Anran absentmindedly took a bite of her meat but felt a little shocked at this rather barbaric sight before her. Furthermore, she could infer that these wolves didn’t move just now until after she did. It seems there is a hierarchy among wolves too. 

Forget it, as long as I have something to eat then it is fine. Speaking off, can she eat this much? 

Gu Anran turned her head to see that Bai Qing hadn’t jumped in to compete for food and was instead rearing off small pieces from the meat Gu Anran claimed. Although her way of eating was much more gentle and completely incomparable to the savagery of the others….but… Why are you eating my meat!

“Anran…hurry up and eat.” Bai Qing looked at her strangely. She felt that Anran had been strangely obedient and quiet today. 

“Oh….” It seems that this body’s original owner and Bai Qing had got along like this in the first place. No wonder she tore off such a large piece, so it wasn’t just for her. 

Speaking of, the meat is really delicious! Fresh and juicy! Not the least bit greasy! As good as a five-star barbecue! 

After the quick breakfast, Gu Anran licked her lips contentedly and burped a little.

She also noticed that the only animals here were of the carnivore kind. Gu Anran jumped off the table and looked around. 

I wonder where Hong Qingyi is.

「Ding! Please pay attention! Warning! Warning! The male lead, Duan Hongwu and the supporting male lead, Song Wenyan, and the supporting female lead, Chi Mengyan, have appeared!」

Gu Anran’s eyes widened as this notification rang in her head and the male lead, supporting male lead, and supporting female lead appeared at the same time.

T/N: 

So the closest translation I could think of for this new arc was the word ‘beastmen’ but it should be closer to something like ‘beast shifter’. In this arc, the characters can shift forms between human and animal. Of course, their human forms are more like the catgirls you see in anime with the cat ears and tail. Also, I believe their animal forms are not quite ‘pure’ wolf as there are parts in the text that seem to indicate they can pick things up with their hands(paws) and their animal forms seem to be somewhat humanoid. Maybe something like a werewolf? Kinda this:
