The Transmigration Missions Are Not Scientific Ch.65

Chapter 65- Beastmen (6)

“Now, I invite the ten of you to come forth! Please draw your lots!” Duan Ming, the first seat, made his way forward with the other ten seats following behind him. Beside him was an old man they haven’t seen before, holding a lottery box in his withered hands. Duan Ming walked towards the little beasts and then pointed at the box,

“There are ten balls in there, five pairs of five different colored balls in there. You will each draw one and the ball with the same color as yours will be your opponent.”

En, a very common way to decide the matchups!

Gu Anran stepped forward, stretching her paw into the box to draw her lot. However, the ball slipped from her grasp several times, causing her to curse silently at whoever decided to use balls at the drawing lot. Didn’t the person know how hard it is to hold round objects without an opposable thumb? Just how will Niu Shan (heir of cow clan), Xiang Tong (the heir of the elephant clan), and Ling Wenwen (the heir of the antelope clan) pick their lots with their hooves and large limbs?

After nearly a minute of scraping the inside box, she finally got the ball out. The color of the ball is yellow.

As for Niu Shan and the other contestants with large limbs, they had others draw on their behalf. After all, their hooves couldn’t even fit inside the box.

The rest of the colors of the balls are black, red, blue, and green. Soon the matches were determined.

Hong Qingyi vs. Song Wenyan

Gu Anran vs. Xiong Lin (heir of the bear clan)

Mu Qingli vs. Niu Shan (heir of cow clan)

Duan Hongwu vs. Xiang Tong  (the heir of the elephant clan)

Chi Mengyan vs. Ling Wenwen (the heir of the antelope clan)

This time, the matches were held inside an actual ring instead of just a rough circle drawn onto the ground. As for when this ring was built, since it had appeared out of nowhere, it was better not to think about it. There was something more important to worry about.

The new arena they were to compete in had a radius of at least five meters! Just how long would it take to push out your opponent in this type of battleground?!! Wouldn’t it be much harder than the previous fighting matches?! Gu Anran pursed her lips at the thought.

“Today we will add a few new rules. If your opponent holds you down until the referee counts to ten, you lose. If you get knocked down and can’t get up by the count of ten, you also lose. Remember that you’re clawing must be retracted at all times. After both parties introduce themselves, the referee will signal for you to start. Now, there’s no time left to lose, let’s begin! I now invite our first match’s contestants to come up!”

From the rules, it seems to be a lot like the wrestling matches back on earth. Gu Anran felt rather speechless…in the end, it turned out to be just plain old wrestling. But wait a minute! The first match is between Mu Qingli and Niu Shan! Her wifey was going to fight! Wait, it’s not scientific for a rabbit to fight a cow!

Will Mu Qingli get hurt? Gu Anran nervously looked up at the cow and rabbit on the stage. Niu Shan was at least three times bigger than Mu Qingli! If Mu Qingli was to be pushed down by Niu Shan, the cow would practically crush the little rabbit with its body!

*Author’s interlude*

(Gu Anran: However, I am really jealous! I want to push my wifey down too!

A certain author: Imagine it all you want, but it’s never going to happen!

Gu Anran: I don’t care! If I can imagine it, you must have thought about it! I want to push down my wifey! You must arrange for this to happen!

A certain author calls up Mu Qingli: Hey, you’re crazy wife wants to push you down! She’s even noisily asking me to arrange it for her! Hurry up and take her back!

Mu Qingli plasters a sweet smile on her face: I see.

Later that night,

Gu Anran hugs her body in horror and askes in a timid voice: What do you want to do?! Wifey, your eyes are so terrifying!

Mu Qingli smiles: I heard my dear wife wants to push me down?

Gu Anran shook her head violently: No!! Of course not! I prefer lying down!

Mu Qingli tilts her head awkwardly: Did that stupid author deceive me?

Gu Anran nods sharply: Yes, it’s all because of that idiot, whose head is full of dirty thoughts! How could I have such thoughts?

A certain author eavesdropping in the corner: I- @#%#%! Our friendship is over! ╯‵□′)╯︵┴─┴)

*End of Author’s little sideshow and now back to the regular programming*

“Match….start!” At the referee’s signal, the match began but neither of the two little beasts on stage made a move. Instead, they stared at each other closely as the crowds on the sidelines cheered loudly.

Niu Shan makes the first move! She lowers her head and points the small horns towards Mu Qingli! She widens her stance and charges at Mu Qingli!

What happened next completely broke Gu Anran’s three world views. Mu Qingli did not doge but instead jumped up, flipped in the air, and firmly landed onto Niu Shan’s back!

My god! Even Olympic gymnasts might not be able to pull this off! Ah….no, it can be said that those gymnasts can easily perform a flip but usually they do so on a wooden stick, not on a charging bull! No human can pull that off! It’s already hard enough to run away from a charging bull! Whoever can pull off such a feat must certainly have a large amount of courage!

And courage is not something these little beasts lack, especially for those who could enter into the top ten for this competition. Courage is essential for them to rank so high.

However, even if Mu Qingli jumped onto Niu Shan’s back, the little rabbit didn’t have the strength to force the cow down onto the ground. Only Xiong Lin from the bear clan and Xiang Tong from the elephant clan might be able to do something like that.

Gu Anran’s heart almost jumped out of her chest as she watched Niu Shan go on a rampage, shaking vigorously like a mad cow would as she tried to throw Mu Qingli off her back. However, how could the Female Lead, Mu Qingli, be thrown off that easily!

Mu Qingli had an amazing sense of balance as no matter how Niu Shan moved, she stood as steady as a mountain! Then…Bang! Bang! Bang! Those powerful hind legs kept jumping up and down Niu Shan’s back and even on the poor cow’s head! With how Mu Qingli jump was almost two meters high, one must imagine how much strength is behind those jumps!

Niu Shan had become dizzy from the powerful impacts against her head and her entire body suffered under the constant jumping. Her legs have already turned numb and at this point, she was supporting herself with willpower alone! What should she do now?!

To her opponent, her body was like a stepping stone or a jumping board. Then, in that case….Niu Shan hurriedly put power into her hind limbs and kicked off her right front foot. She stood up! Although she was only standing at about a 50 degrees angle at most, it was enough to make Mu Qingli lose her footing!

One must know that Nie Shan is rather calm and composed of a cow. Most cows are especially grumpy when provided and would’ve already exploded in anger from all this jumping torture. But she’s in the top ten for a reason in the first place!

Although Mu Qingli lost her balance, she did not panic and landed calmly on the ground. She even kicked out a foot quickly before Niu Shan could stabilize herself back onto her four limbs. The swift and vicious kick made an impact against Niu Shan’s chin and caused the cow to fall backward.

Mu Qingli’s offensive did not stop as she took a step forward and kicked out again, this time her foot landing straight onto Niu Shan’s stomach.

Bang!

Niu Shan fell heavily onto the ground, it looked like it hurt quite a bit. Her entire back landed painfully on the ground and her face was twisted in agony. However, since her limbs were too short, she couldn’t clutch her aching abdomen and could only lie weakly on the ground.

And so….this was a perfect example of the bigger they are the harder they fall. A huge body is not designed to be flexible. In a fight against opponents of the same size, it might be ok, but it was quite disadvantageous against a faster and more flexible opponent.

“Winner: Mu Qingli!”

Niu Shan was carried down by some beastmen as the referee announced Mu Qingli as the winner.

“Congratulations!” Gu Anran patted Mu Qingli on the shoulder.

“With this, you’re in the top five! Not bad, not bad.” Chi Mengyan nodded in approval.

“Hehe, a lucky fluke, that’s all.” Mu Qingli sheepishly smiled.

“The next match is Qingyi against Song Wenyan! It should be very exciting!” Gu Anran looked up at Hong Qingyi and Song Wenyan who had both gathered on the stage already. Black vs. Silver, two very different contestants!

“Hello, my name is Song Wenyan.” The little silver tiger was a little shy but still introduced himself politely.

This was the first time Hong Qingyi heard Song Wenyan speak because previously Song Wenyan had only quietly followed behind Duan Hongwu this entire time. During playtime, Song Wenyan would let Duan Hongwu do all the talking.

Seeing how Song Wenyan was nervously rubbing his palms, ears dropping, and blushing lightly, Hong Qingyi determined that Song Wenyan is a shy and introverted child!

“Hello, I am Hing Qingyi.” Hong Qingyi nodded and seeing that Song Qenyan had raised his head to smile shyly at her, she smiled back. However, Hong Qingyi didn’t realize that there were two people in the audience who were watching her closely!

“Why is Hong Qingyi smiling at another beast!” She had never even smiled at me like that! Chi Mengyan bared her teeth at the events unfolding up on the stage! (You don’t say! It’s already good enough if your crush doesn’t alienate you but now you want her to only smile at you?←←)

Gu Anran felt like laughing. Poor Hong Qingyi! You’re gonna be in a whole lot of trouble this time!

Suddenly, she heard a growling sound near her and turned her head to see a little golden lion named Duan Hongwu looking bitterly at Song Wenyan. The little beast had unconsciously let his claws out and was now tearing up the grass around him! (Little Grassroot: Why am I so pitiful! What did I do to deserve this! When you guys are happy you play with us but then tear us up when you’re unhappy! Even grab us at random! What vendetta do we have between us?!!)

Ah…good, very good! Looks like we won’t have to worry about getting the male lead and the supporting male lead together this time as well!

The two up on the stage only felt a sudden chill go down their backs at the same time and both of them looked at each other in surprise. This looked like another wave of making “affectionate” eyes at each other to the people down below. Ah….the gloomy aura around me is getting worse…..

“Match, start!”

Unlike the previous match, Hong Qingyi and Song Wenyan immediately pounced towards each other when the referee gave the signal. Since both belonged to the cat family, their fighting tactics were very similar, but the tiger was naturally stronger while the leopard was more agile. It was harder to tell who had the upper hand.

Although Song Wenyan has a shy and bashful personality, he was not one to pull punches in a fight. He waved his tiger’s paws fiercely and the speed was incredibly fast! Furthermore, as the male supporting lead and the male lead’s good friend, he must have a high fighting capacity! Otherwise, how can he support the male lead? He can’t be a hindrance, only a benefit for the male lead!

However, the battle soon came to a stalemate. A certain scene kept repeating. Song Wenyan would swipe a paw at Hong Qingyi and then Hong Qingyi would swiftly avoid it before launching a counterattack. But then her attack would be easily blocked by Song Wenyan. Her attacks rarely landed and when they did, they were light scrapes that barely left any damage. Both could not use claws so neither could break the other’s defenses. Was this going to end up becoming a battle of endurance?

Perhaps it was because they had fought for too long, their movements getting repetitive except for a few positional changes, the audience was getting quite bored. At first, they had cheered loudly but the noise slowly disappeared and turned into idle chatter instead.

Suddenly the atmosphere changed when Hong Qingyi avoided Song Wenyan’s paw and jumped over the tiger’s head, her paws sinking into Song Wenyan’s shoulders as she rolled around. Then she moved both of her paws around Song Wenyan’s waist and lifted him up as she bent her back under the dumbfounded audience’s eyes. A German Suplex!

Gu Anran, who was also dumbfoundedly watching this scene, wanted to ask Hong Qingyi just how was she able to pull this off in an animal’s body! Hong Qingyi couldn’t even do this in her human body! She must’ve watched too many cartoons and wanted to try it for herself.

Although the beastmen did not know about German Suplex, this kind of move was often seen back on earth in kid-friendly cartoons. And Gu Anran had looked up the proper posture for this move once. When correctly used, the German Suplex can cause major damage to the opponent’s neck and spine and possibly even lead to death. Improper use of the move can cause damage to your cervical spine and other parts that may hurt yourself more than the opponent.

Therefore….Hong Qingyi must have a hole in her brain, right?!! To use such a dangerous move! Gu Anran frowned in thought. Fortunately, the animal’s body is different from a human and is inherently better at performing movements that humans find difficult. The moment Song Qenyan was thrown into the ground, Hong Qingyi righted herself and landed on her four limbs safely. She even walked around without a flinch, as if there was nothing wrong with her body. This made Gu Anran feel somewhat relieved.

And Song Wenyan should also be grateful that Hong Qingyi did not succeed, otherwise, he might’ve been seriously injured or forced to lie in a bed for the rest of his life. Although Sogn Wenyan did not hurt his spine, he had fallen heavily on his right shoulder. There was no blood, but there had to be some serious internal bleeding from the patch of reddish skin peeking out from under the skin. That type of injury might take some serious reparation. There may be some lingering injuries that could affect the little silver tiger and Hong Qingyi might even draw the ire of a certain male lead. Looks like she might need to exchange some points for medicine from the shop and feed it to Song Wenyan later.

“Winner: Hong Qingyi!”

The countdown reached zero and victory went to Hong Qingyi.

“I won!” Hong Qingyi happily hopped out of the ring.

“Hmph.” Chi Mengyan snorted coldly, turning her head to the side, leaving a very confused HOng Qingyi to stare at her backside. Just what did she do to cause her wifey to ignore her like that?! She looked over at Gu Anran for help.

Hong Qingyi: What’s wrong with her?

Gu Anran: She saw you and Song Wenyan act affectionately while making eyes at each other earlier. Her heart is probably sour by now.

Hong Qingyi: What?!!

Before Hong Qingyi could run over and coax an angry Chi Mengyan, Gu Anran held her back to question her quietly.

“Why did you use a German Suplex just now? Don’t say you did it because you thought it was cool or else I might just kill you!”

“This…” Hong Qingyi’s eyes darted to the side. She really did think it was cool so she wanted to show off a little!

“You must know that if that move succeeded, Song Wenyan might’ve been crippled! Or worse, died! If you had completely failed in your attempt, then you would’ve been the one to be crippled. It’s fortunate that your move wasn’t complete, otherwise, I would’ve seen a crippled idiot and a pitiful victim lying up there right now!” Gu Anran shivered at the horrifying thought.

Knowing that she was at fault, Hong Qingyi dared not say anything and only nodded silently. After all, Gu Anran was saying this because she cared. In short, she should be more careful in the future and not be so impulsive next time!

“Alright, go comfort your girlfriend. She keeps stabbing me with her eyes and it’s making my entire body hurt.” Gu Anran didn’t even need to turn her head to know that Chi Mengyan was staring at her with a murderous gaze as she could practically feel the knives in her back. The longer she kept this idiot here, the more pain she was in!

“En.” Hong Qingyi said dryly and moved towards Chi Mengyan.

Turning away from Hong Qingyi, Gu Anran turned her attention back to the ring. The next match was about to start between the heir of the elephant clan and Duan Hongwu.

However, Duan Hongwu seemed….off. He didn’t seem calm and composed like before as his eyes kept shifting towards Song Wenyan. He unintentionally, or maybe intentionally, showed worry and concern in his eyes like he couldn’t wait to fly over to his loved one to make sure he was alright.

“I am Xiong Tong.” The young heir of the elephant clan introduced himself first.

“Duan Hongwu.” Oh, look, even the self-introduction is so perfunctory and so obvious too! It’s clearly showing that he didn’t even have the other party in his eyes.

Gu Anran watched as Xiang Tong’s small eyes flashed in anger and his long trunk fluttered, making a popping sound. It looked like Xiang Tong couldn’t wait to whip Duan Hongwu with his trunk! Although, if she was treated this way, she would be upset too, just not as obvious as him. However…Duan Hongwu, can you not even tell that this beast in front of you is furious? Have you died and gone to heaven? Or are you just that blind?

“Match, start!”

Swish….

The strong trunk swept towards Duan Hongwu’s face, the brute force behind the movie made even Gu Anran gasp a little. Just imagine how painful it would be if you were hit by that! It hurts even just from imagining it!

However, as the male lead, how can he allow himself to get beaten up?

Gu Anran watched as Duan Hongwu showed off his great power as he jumped nimbly to avoid Xiang Tong’s attack. He moved towards Xiang Tong’s body but Xiang Tong was smart enough to know that close combat would put him in a disadvantageous situation so he forcibly moved Duan Hongwu back with his nose.

But Duan Hongwu did not falter and stretched out his arms…Pa! He hugged tightly onto the trunk and began to…climb up!

This scene was rather amazing!

A lion club climbing up an elephant’s snout….just looking at the scene made one want to laugh.

However, Xiang Tong, the elephant caught in this dilemma, was not laughing. As he was still a developing child, some parts of his body were relatively delicate like his trunk. Although his trunk is his greatest weapon, it was also one of the tenderest parts of his body. To suddenly have to support the weight of a lion cub on his snout caused a sharp pain to flash through his trunk. It felt like his nose was about to fall off but at least it wasn’t bad enough to force him to cry tears.

Due to the pain, Xiang Tong was forced to lower his head and lower the height of his trunk to relieve the pain! However, this also gave Duan Hongwu a chance to fight back!

She watched as Duan Hongwu raise his head…Bang! And then headbutt the elephant right in the middle of his forehead! Yup, that’s right, a headbutt! This is now a contest of who’s head is harder!

“Whaaa!” The result was Xiang Tong yelling in pain! Daun Hongwu’s head was fine while a dark blue bruise appeared on Xiang Tong’s gray skin!

Just how hard is the male lead’s head? Is this because of the male lead’s halo? Since the male lead can’t die, the most vulnerable head is actually his hardest part! And so this is what happens because of that!

In short, when it comes to whose head is harder, Xiang Tong loses! Then let’s compete with weight instead!

Xiang Tong decides to press Duan Hongwu onto the ground instead!

En, a smart decision. As long as he can press Duan Hongwu to the ground for ten seconds, Xiang Tong will win! But is it that simple? Just who is Duan Hongwu? He’s the male lead! It’s ok for him to lose to Mu Qingli, but how can he lose to a cannon fodder who didn’t even show up in the original novel?!!

So she watched as the male lead showed off his supernatural powers as he roared and lifted Xiang Tong up. Yup, you read that right, he indeed lifted Xiang Tong up!

It’s completely not scientific for a lion club to lift up a baby elephant! But with his male lead’s halo, Duang Hongwu can do just that!

Everyone exclaimed loudly as Duan Hongwu threw Xiang Tong out of the ring and won!

Next up was Chi Mengyan vs. Ling Wenwen.

Gu Anran clearly remembered that female antelopes don’t develop horns. Although the male antelope has large horns on their head, they still shouldn’t have much attack power. But at least it’s better than nothing?

She doesn’t have any horns and yet she was among the top ten. It’s reasonable then to say that Ling Wenwen should have very powerful limbs and jumping abilities instead!

After a simple introduction, the match began.

Sure enough, Ling Wenwen.

made full use of her advantages. From the start, she ran circles around Chi Mengyan. Although Chi Mengyan’s speed was able to follow Ling Wenwen’s movements, Ling Wenwen was moving easily with light leaps into the air. If Chi Mengyan tried to keep up with Ling Wenwen, she would soon be exhausted. Especially on a large stage like this, it is even more disadvantageous for Chi Mengyan.

However, as a fox, Chi Mengyan had a few tricks up her sleeve. After chasing after Ling Wenwen for a few rounds, Chi Mengyan visibly began to show signs of exhaustion.

Ling Wenwen was waiting for this exact moment. Her previous opponents were all defeated by her like this. Either exhausted themselves till they passed out or knocked out by her in their weak states!

Ling Wenwen immediately closed in on Chi Mengyan with a powerful kick off the ground and punched her legs towards Chi Mengyan.

Swish….

Chi Mengyan suddenly changed from swaying on her feet to slamming straight into Ling Wenwen’s slender waist! The poor antelope’s expression was one of astonishment as she flew through the air.

Ling Wenwen promptly fell out of the ring. Her slender limbs and body were much thinner than Chi Mengyans so she was easily knocked off the stage.

“Winner: Chi Mengyan!”

Gu Anran was waiting on the side as the next contestant so she could not congratulate Chi Mengyan who was being hugged by Hong Qingyi and Mu Qingli.

“You can go up now.” A referee beside her said.

Gu Anran nodded and jumped onto the stage. On the other end, Xiong Lin also climbed up. She was much bigger than Gu Anran with her black and dar fur. Like the match with Hong Qingyi vs. Song Wenyan, the two contestants’ color schemes directly contrasted against each other.

However, Gu Anran’s opponent is a bear…..even if Xiong Lin is still a cub, her strength should still be stronger than Gu Anran. Gu Anran dare not say how much stronger, but in terms of brute force, Xiong Lin should be the dominant one. And without the help of her claws, Gu Anran was at a disadvantage.

Since no teeth were used in the previous fights, Gu Anran was not sure whether she could use teeth either. Although bears do have thick hides, they can still be broken by the sharp teeth of wolves!

But in the absence of precedent, Gu Anran still felt that it was more appropriate to rely on strategy to win.

So, what should she do?

“Hello, my name is Xiong Lin, please take care of me.”

“I am Gu Anran, please take care of me as well.”

Both sides greeted each other politely.

“Match, start!”

Neither side pounced or charged but Gu Anran slowly circled Xiong Lin, observing the bear quietly.

And Xiong Lin was also quite cautious. When Gu Anran moved, she mimicked the wolf’s movements and moved alongside her. Both sides seemed wary of the other as they circled and circled, neither wishing to be the first to attack.

Bears have plenty of methods of attack. Relying on just their powerful bear claws, they can easily defeat most other animals. They could even just sit down and wait for the opponent to attack and then kill them with one blow. A bear’s punch was nothing to scoff at as those unfortunate enough to get hit are either seriously injured or die on the spot.

Although Xiong Lin is still a bear cub, Gu Anran should still be careful. In the wild, wolves would usually group up to attack a bear. However, now there is only Gu Anran. She also didn’t have much geological advantage either. No assistance and no advantages….what should she do?

Gu Anran slowly closed in, the muscles in her shoulder becoming taunt.

Suddenly, Xiong Lin stretched her front paws forward, causing Gu Anran to jump backward quickly. Fortunately she was constantly on guard against this bear or else she might have really pounced and then that paw would’ve struck her straight in the ribs. It would not be fun if she was hit by such a deadly force.

But just now the opponent had missed, so they should not attack again for a while. She needed to think up a way to win in this short period of respite!

Xiong Lin was also feeling rather dismayed right now, she had not expected her opponent to be so cautious.

In her previous matches, all her opponents immediately rushed her. They didn’t study their opponent carefully enough and so she used that to her advantage. With her great strength, these would directly push them to the ground.

Her own skin was also rather thick, so as long as the opponent didn’t use their claws, she would be able to brush off all attacks. After all, it only felt like a tickle to her no matter how hard they hit. And so, she always won her matches rather quickly.

But this wolf clan’s young miss was not the same as the others. The little wolf has been very cautious towards her this entire time. Usually, she wouldn’t be afraid to pounce such a cautious opponent, but her parents told her to be careful of this smart little wolf. Maybe this wolf would use some ingenious trick to win. A scheme perhaps? Thinking like that, she had decided to go on the offensive first. After all, the offense is the best defense. Yet unexpectedly her surprise attack had failed, spectacularly so. The other party is indeed much more dangerous than they seem.

Perhaps I should give her a shock. Although it may not succeed, I have to try. This stalemate cannot go on. Gu Anran thought to herself. She had once read in a book that when animals are spooked or threatened, their brain enters a flight or fight mode. At the very least, the brain becomes confused and the limbs stiffen. Judgment and rational thought falls in the face of fear and it’s difficult for one to calm down. At the very least, she can give this method a try.

Thinking like this, Gu Anran suddenly charged towards Xiong Lin. Xiong Lin’s eyes widened in fright from Gu Anran’s charge and reflexively swung her bear paw when the wolf approached her. However, Gu Anran had long been prepared for this and with a slight bend of her knees, she easily avoided Xiong Lin’s attack and then at the same time slammed her back foot into Xiong Lin’s soft abdomen.

It is often said that the abdomen of the beast is the least protected area and often the most fragile part. And a bear is the same. With such a big target in front of her, Gu Anran would of course not miss this opportunity to launch a deadly attack!

PA!

The sound of a kick landing rang out and Xiong Lin was hit. However, she only moved back a few paces, holding her stomach a little, as she swayed and stood up again. From the twisted and determined expression on her face, one could tell that Xiong Lin was holding on only because of her strong willpower.

Xiong Lin had gotten up so quickly after such a devastating hit….she was even more admirable than Niu Shan from earlier.

However, no matter how much admiration she felt for the bear, the outcome would be the same in the end. Gu Anran quickly circled behind Xiong Lin and charged at Xiong Lin’s back. Although Xiong Lin wanted to turn around, the injury on her stomach prevented her from acting. How could she withstand the relentless attacks of a still perfectly fine Gu Anran?

Her back was hit hard and finally, Xiong Lin fell. She tried to get up, struggling to push her heavy body off the ground. If she had more time then maybe she would have eventually made her way back to her feet. However, this was still just a game, a port in the end. And the rules of this sport doesn’t wait for anybody.

“Winner: Gu Anran!”

Gu Anran finally breathed a sigh of relief when the referee announced her victory. At the same time, she bowed slightly to Xiong Lin who was still lying on the ground, and then said in an apologetic tone,

“Thank you for everything. I hope we can swap pointers again sometime.”

“Ah….I-I hope so too.”  Despite the pain, Xiong Lin showed a hearty smile. This made Gu Anran’s goodwill towards the bear double. Maybe Xiong Lin can become her friend in the future!

After jumping off the stage, Gu Anran made her way back to Mu Qingli and the others.

“Hey, not bad, not bad.” Hong Qingyi leaned towards Gu Anran, a smirk on her face. This caused Gu Anran to push her away with a disgusted face,

“Beat it, your smug smirk is too disgusting.”

“Hmph!” And Chi Mengyan besides them snorted coldly.

“Mengyan….you….what’s the matter with you?” Hong Qingyi quickly turned towards Chi Mengyan and worriedly asked.

What Chi Mengyan hated the most was when Hong Qingyi acted like this with her! Hong Qingyi always treated others in a friendly manner but always treated her with caution! She hated it! (That’s because Hong Qingyi’s is a wooden-headed idiot←←)

“Anran, congratulations!”  Mu Qingli jumped happily in front of Gu Anran but Gu Anran could tell that although Mu Qingli was smiling, the smile did not reach her eyes.

????? What happened while I was up there? Gu Anran felt confused and pondered deeply but didn’t notice that Mu QIngli was looking at her with her lips pressed tightly.

Hmpphh….just now….Gu Anran smiled at Xiong Lin so tenderly! Why does her heart feel so sour and bitter? She wanted Anran to only smile gently at her! But….neither Qingyi nor Mengyan made her feel this way….why was it only Anran?

When it comes to love, even adults can’t make heads or tails of it, let alone a child who is only the years old….although one of them is only a (pseudo) child…..

At his moment, Duan Ming jumped into the ring.

“Alright then, may I ask the top five to approach the ring! We will now choose the first place winner among these five. Everyone, please start voting!” After saying so, the beastmen in the audience all took out five different colored balls and approached a large box.

Gu Anran’s eyes widened and Hong Qingyi’s as well,

What? This is how the first place will be determined? This completely goes against common sense!

Later they would learn that the reason they did this was that it would take too long to determine the final ranks through fighting and would delay the banquet. So instead the first place winner will be selected through voting. The audience votes for the contestant they thought showed the most skill in battle. In short, whoever they like the best.

A little while later, the results were tallied up and Gu Anran watched as a beastman rushed towards Duan Ming, whispering something in the golden lion’s ear.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the results are out! Before we move to announce the results, first let’s give a round of applause to our contestants!” Duan Ming clapped his hands vigorously, and the audience followed suit.

“Ahem….now, then, I will announce the first place winner in each category!” After a dry cough, Duan Ming unfolded a piece of paper in his hands.

The audience turned quiet, they all waited with bated breath. Looking at her fellow little beast’s nervous and wide eyes, Gu Anran started to feel a little nervous too.

“The first place in long-distance running is….” As if trying to draw out the suspense, Duan Ming purposely drew out his words,

“Song Wenyan!”

There was loud applause and cheers and many of his small tiger friends approached him to congratulate their young master.

After waiting for a moment, Duan Ming coughed once and the audience immediately grew quiet again,

“Ahem, next up, the first place winner in the sprinting category is….Chi Mengyan!”

“Congratulations, Mengyan!”  Among the four friends, Hong Qingyi was the first to react. She was as excited as if she was the one who won, not Mengyan.

“Hmph, a small matter.” Chi Mengyan flicked her tail proudly and raised her chin.

However, Gu Anran saw that the little fox’s ears were bright red. Oooh, someone was acting shy~~~

Her snicker was noticed by Chi Mengyan and the little fox glared at her. Gu Anran only smiled and congratulated Chi Mengyan along with Mu Qingli.

“Next up, the first place winner for the long jump event is….” He purposely slowed his words again…..wow, the first seat of the beastmen sure does have poor taste in humor.

“Mu Qingli!”

“Yay!” Mu Qingli cheered loudly and then bounced almost three meters into the air like a coiled spring set free.

“Congrats!” Gu Anran patted Mu Qingli’s head and smiled.

“Haha, we have two first place winners in our group! Look at us four little friends, we have two first place winners! We’re so awesome!” Hong Qingyi laughed while patting Mu Qingli on the back in congratulations.

“Hmph, well doesn’t that mean you’re lacking in comparison? Why don’t you try winning an event as well?” Chi Mengyan hmphed.

A tsundere will always be a tsundere no matter the circumstance! However, Chi Mengyan’s tsundere side was cute and endearing, not the least bit annoying!

“Next up the winner of the swimming event…Gu Anran!”

“Anran! Anran! You won!” Mu Qingli jumped directly onto Gu Anran’s back in excitement, using her as a jumping board, much like she did with Niu Shan earlier.

“Aiya, not bad, not bad!” Hong Qingyi bumped shoulders with Gu Anran while smirking.

“Hehe, it was just a fluke.” Although she didn’t really care if she was first place or last place, she was still happy to hear she had won something.

“Next up, the first place winner in the tree climbing event….Hong Qingyi!”

“Whahaha! Mengyan, look, I won too!” Hong Qingyi jumped around Chi Mengyan in excitement.

“Stop jumping, you’re making me dizzy.” And the result was Chi Mengyan slapping her into the ground.

“Pfffftt—hahaha! Hong Qingyi, you deserved that!” Gu Anran laughed at the Hong Qingyi lying on the ground and patted Hong Qingyi’s back. This resulted in her getting a look of grievance from Hong Qingyi and a glare from Chi Mengyan. However, Gu Anran couldn’t care less and returned a glare of her own!

The final winner was of course the male lead, Duan Hongwu! (A certain author is too lazy to write another dialogue for the male lead. The male lead is unimportant anyway←←)

“Congratulations to our six winners! As a reward, they are allowed to have the first pick of the food! Whatever they want to eat, they can have it! We can even have the cooks whip up their favorite food!” Duan Ming announced loudly.

Although Gu Anran felt a little disappointed that the reward was just food, she didn’t expect much from an animal society. Anyhow, she might as well enjoy herself and eat till her stomach splits open!

“It’s almost time. The banquet will start soon, please prepare yourselves!”

The sun began to set, darkness slowly arrived. Time passed by real fast!

However, time was not an important point. The important point is that the banquet is about to begin!

T/N:

  1. And indeed male lead doesn’t matter, well said author I’m glad we agree.

Anran and Qingyi will always be eternal bottoms even in the authors fantasies it seems lol.
