What To Do If The System Forces You To Exercise Ch. 17

Chapter 17- For Film Princess Su I squandered my fortune?!!

Wen Jiexi thought she heard wrong, then she looked up the company on the phone. This couldn’t be some scam, right?

HIOC. It was a real company and their products seemed nice, but that wasn’t the point. She never had any interaction with this company, so how did they find her?

As if sensing Wen Jiexi’s question, the answer came across from the other side,

“So it’s really you, the sick beauty! I am a senior of yours, although not from the same department, I know you! Our team leader saw your performance at the basketball game today, it was really shocking! I hope you can help us out! We are not a scam, I swear it to the heavens!”

Uh…..Wen Jiexi quickly held the phone away from her, otherwise even without the speaker on, the shouting would’ve made her deaf. However, this just showed how serious the other side was and they even sincerely swore to the heavens. Hearing that last part, Wen Jiexi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

“Calm down, can you speak slowly? I promise I won’t hang up.” Wen Jiexi said in a soothing tone.

Cough-” On the other end, Lin Youjia almost choked on her saliva when she heard Wen Jiexi talk to her like she was appeasing a child. The colleagues circling her quickly patted her on the back and helped her regain her breath. This was their communications ambassador, they couldn’t let anything happen to her!

Zhao Ya leaned on the pillar with her arms crossed and watched the situation of a child being surrounded by a group of desperate adults. Her mouth couldn’t help twitching at the sight. She looked at the closed door, rubbing her forehead. Good thing she had locked the door, otherwise if anybody came and saw this, she would feel so ashamed.

After coughing a bit more, Lin Youjia understood what she needed to do and asked carefully,

“Trust me, we really are members of HIOC. We are currently trying to find a spokesperson for our new line of products. Originally, we had people come in for an interview, but none of them were satisfactory. Either their physical fitness was lacking or their appearance didn’t fit our brand. After watching your game, we felt you were the perfect fit. Of course, we won’t force you to work for free. Instead, we can agree on a payment or conditions in person. If there is a clause you don’t like we can discuss it in future conversations as well. I’m wondering when you’ll have the time to arrange such an appointment?”

“This…” Wen Jiexi felt hesitant. Even if the other party wasn’t trying to scam her, should she go?

Su Chenyu….that name flashed across Wen Jiexi’s mind. Thinking about that cold, beautiful and radiant woman, she pursed her lips. Wen Jiexi understood that if she wanted to enter the entertainment circle, maybe this was the opportunity she needed. Opportunities like this may come knocking on her door, but it was up to her to grasp onto them. If she doesn’t grasp it firmly the first time, there might not be a second time.

“Ok, let’s make an appointment…”Wen Jiexi hadn’t finished speaking when cheering came from the other side of the phone. Eh….what’s up with this?

“Quiet down, quiet!” The female on the other side said something to her surroundings which abruptly calmed down. “Ahem, I’m sorry, I seemed to have frightened you. It’s just that over here….we’re a little excited that’s all. Uh, so, what time would you like to set for your appointment?”

“How about tomorrow evening…is it okay if I bring a friend along too?” Wen Jiexi looked over at Li Lingmeng and asked.

“Of course, of course. Then how about we meet at the Blue Coffee cafe at seven tomorrow? Or will eight be a better time?” Lin Youjia said with a smile.

“En….eight o’clock sounds good.” Wen Jiexi thought for a moment and said.

“Great, great, we’ll see you tomorrow then!”

“Yes, see you tomorrow.” Wen Jiexi looked down at her phone, hung up and exhaled.

“Jiexi, Jiexi, what just happened?” Dango flew towards Wen Jiexi and asked. That phone call sounded scary to Dango, with all the screaming and cheering, it sounded like the other party had schizophrenia.

“Won’t you find out when we go tomorrow?” Wen Jiexi couldn’t explain everything to Dango because she didn’t know everything herself.

Hmmm…should I inform my parents or big brother? Wen Jiexi felt distressed, however, after thinking about it, she was already twenty years old and yet she’s never worked before. Trying to earn some pocket money for myself is a good thing, thinking like this, Wen Jiexi threw her doubts out the window.

Time for the missions panel!

Wen Jiexi excitedly looked at the ‘completed!’ word next to the golden mission. Next to the complete mission was another line:

 [Recieve rewards, (Accept/Deny)]

She didn’t hesitate and pressed ‘Accept’. Immediately a voice sounded out.

Ding!

Congratulations contractor. The following rewards will be deposited 300 Exp, 5000 points/catties (cannot be used for the next mission).

Ding!

Congratulations contractor for leveling up to level 2.

Ding!

The shop is now open, the contractor now has access to buy items from the shop.

“5000 points? And they can’t be used for the next missions? Then what do you do with them?” Wen Jiexi pointed at the missions panel. There was an additional text 「Available points: 5650」as well. Her level bar now was at level 2 and needed 400 points to reach level 3. She only needs another 100 points to level up again. And the originally full progress bar for the monthly golden mission was transparent again. Finally, the shop that used to be colored gray and black could now be selected in the lower right corner.

“These points not only represent the points you got from the reward, but the leftover points from the mission. For example, the 650 points were the leftover points for after you completed the yellow mission. Furthermore, these ‘available points’ have a very simple purpose. They are points you can use to buy items in the shop.” Dango explained, pointing at the shop with its arms.

“You can enter the shop and take a look. It has everything you need and is quite an eye-opener.”

Wen Jiexi clicked on the shop and immediately the panel expanded and dozens of dazzling icons appeared on it.

“This…how can I find anything on this?” If she had to go through each icon one by one, just when will she find the thing she wants? Next month? Next year?

“Huh? Why are some of the icons grayed out?”

“Those are items currently unavailable at your level. Furthermore, these pages are only a small part of the vast number of things in the shop. Of course, it’s impossible to ask the contractor to sort through them one by one. If you look over here, there’s a search bar.” Dango pointed to a window that popped up. There were a lot of options one could use to narrow their search criteria. One allowed you to only search for things that are available for purchase, another allowed her to buy items specifically to help her in a mission.

Wen Jiexi looked at it and then clicked on the checkbox for things that are available for purchase. After confirming, a total of three pages appeared in front of Wen Jiexi, with about 100 icons on each one, meaning about 300 items in total. Even after narrowing it down, there were so many.

One page was full of snacks, clothes, medicine, bags and everything one could want, but Wen Jiexi skipped that page. She could buy those things easily outside, there was no need to waste her points on it.

The second and third page was more practical. There were several different tools that allowed her to locate the missions she needed, like detailed maps and there were other things that seemed like it would be useful in specific missions. The price for one item was around 300 to 2000 points. Of course, the more expensive it is, the better. Wen Jiexi naturally understood this.

However, at level 2 as a contractor, the most expensive thing she could buy was around 2000 points. Then doesn’t that mean that the things she can buy later will have sky-high prices? It seems that even after completely monthly missions, she couldn’t slack off. Thinking like this, Wen Jiexi decided she would save most of her points unless she absolutely had to spend them. Then glancing at the bottom, she saw thirty thin-looking books.

“Hmm? This is a book?” However, even from first glance, she could tell they weren’t ordinary books.

“If you click on the icon, an introduction will pop up.” Dango was swiping through its phone while answering Wen Jiexi’s question.

Wen Jiexi tapped on the first row of white books. Hmmm? Taekwondo and Chinese boxing? Are these self-defense skills? And not just Taekwondo and Chinese boxing, there was judo, karate, tai chi, etc. Furthermore, they were divided into three levels, white, yellow and green respectively.

Should I buy some? Wen Jiexi hesitated. Thinking about the missions up till now, some did involve helping girls fight off rogues, perverts and the like.

The most dangerous one was when a girl was pulled into an alley by several men and at the time, she relied on her brute strength to knock most of them unconscious. Wen Jiexi, who used to sit or lie down for more than 70% of the time, barely knew how to throw a fist, let alone fight. However, the last man standing, a tall and thin man, caused her to suffer a loss.

That man had held a short knife and the Wen Jiexi who only knew how to throw a fist was helpless. Did she have to hit the knife with her fist? Although she received ‘divine power’, it didn’t mean she actually received a divine body that was made of iron. At the time she had to drag out the fight until the man fell to the ground, exhausted. After the fight, she was so tired that she could barely breathe.

She also recalled that time when she rescued Su Chenyu not so long ago. If it weren’t for her strength, let alone help, she would be considered a burden. An electric shock could not be compared to a knife wound. If she was hit, she would’ve been paralyzed and lost her ability to move for a short time. Of course, a knife cut was more harmful, but that’s beside the point.

From these missions, Wen Jiexi understood that strength wasn’t everything. If strength was accompanied with boxing or kung fu, it would become much more useful. If one wanted to enter the entertainment industry, some self-defense skills were necessary. Furthermore, if she meets Su Chenyu again….if she encounters danger again….because after all, the film princess had many, many fans. Who knows when one of them will turn into a crazy stalker?

Su Chenyu was the delicate type, the kind that will fall over with a light push. Then I have to learn at least a little self-defense skill or two. Finally coming to a decision, Wen Jiexi clicked the confirm button to purchase a green book and then…

Ding!

Sorry but the contractor has an insufficient balance. Please recharge your balance or buy something else.

What? Not enough? Don’t I have enough to buy one? Isn’t the most expensive green book only 1500 points? Why can’t I….?

Then Wen Jiexi noticed the three green books in her hands that she didn’t know when they had appeared….then remembering her thoughts earlier, she quickly saw that her balance had dropped from 5650 to 1150.

“…” Didn’t she say to herself that she was going to save her points? She hadn’t even met that person a second time yet and she already wants to protect her! She has bodyguards! She doesn’t need me to rush in and protect her!

Wen Jiexi wanted to cry but had no tears and just looked at the books in her hand. She had bought judo, tai chi, and karate. Well, I might as well try them out.

“Dango, how do I use these things?”

“You can just flip them open,” Dango replied.

“Flip them open?” Wen Jiexi opened the first book and with a shuaa sound, it turned into green light and flew towards Wen Jiexi’s forehead. Then it slowly disappeared. The moment the green light disappeared, in Wen Jiexi’s brain, the Tai Chi moves appeared and like a movie, it played through each step that her body automatically followed.

When Wen Jiexi finished, she was panting and sweating, but she felt very satisfied as she looked at her hands,

“Alright, even if I lost over half of my points in one go, this stuff isn’t half bad.”

T/N notes:

I decided to make it easier to differentiate the points by making one exp, and the other just plain points.

Exp = experience points (the points that allows Wen Jiexi to level up)

Points = points towards the main mission (which was to lift a certain amount of catties/pounds but the author uses the words points and catties interchangeably so they basically mean the same thing.)

Alright so I now know that the ‘thing’ the pervert was carrying in the earlier chapters was a taser. Idk why they would censor it. Chinese censorship laws must be weird.

Also, haha, Jiexi, I also make the same mistake. At least you’re buying it for your dear Su Chenyu’s sake. A life lesson for everyone: never let amazon give you the ‘one click buy’ option. It will make you regret a lot of things.

  2. I’m really enjoying this story so far. Our protagonist is so cute. Thank you ʕ•ᴥ•ʔノ♡

I’d forgotten the part of the story summary that said Wen Xiexi would go into showbiz. Somehow it seems a bit off for her personality as someone who is inexperienced with worldly things and doesn’t seek attention, but I guess that will be part of the charm.

Also, her bro is going to flip his lid when he finds out ʕ ´•ᴥ•´ʔ

    Thanks again for translating.
