Ch.73- Who will bring the dog home? !

All in all, everyone survived the incident safely. They were also fortunate that this area was desolate. If there were witnesses, it would’ve caused a big sensation and they would’ve all ended up on TV. 

They were quickly taken to the nearest hotel to wash off the dust and grime and then rushed to a nearby animal hospital. According to the program crew, the mastiffs were sent there for treatment while the contestants were cleaning themselves. 

The little veterinary hospital’s employees were shocked when the crew had first arrived with the dogs. They had never seen such a big dog before! 

A male vet gulped nervously as the show’s crew and the actors surrounded him. 

“Um…please bear with me…” The male veterinarian said with some fear in his eyes. He then looked up at the dog in front of him. The dog was huge and coupled with the scary scratches, sharp teeth and red eyes, it was frightening no matter how you look at it. It also gave him a lot of pressure, for one bite could kill him. However, when he remembered that the old uncle from earlier said that he would get 10,000 yuan as long as he treated the six dogs, he was renewed with spirit again. 10,000 was a few months worth of salary! 

For the money, he must prevail! 

“Hey, hey, be careful.” Old Zhan looked at the vet’s trembling hands and sighed. Although he could understand the veterinarian’s feelings, he couldn’t do anything. After all, he wasn’t a doctor, so he could only leave this to a professional no matter how scared the said professional looked. 

The other five dogs had been treated by the male vet’s assistant. They had looked terrible at first, but after a little disinfection and rubbing alcohol, it turns out their wounds weren’t bad at all. After cleaning up their fur, the dogs no longer looked scary but majestic instead. The scars on their body even added to their majestic, valiant beauty. 

AwoooooO! The other dogs surrounded the big dog but they didn’t dare get to close as they stood a meter away. They knew that the man next to their boss was helping their boss heal and so they couldn’t bother him. They could only watch their boss worriedly from a distance. 

The male veterinarian: You guys staring at me makes me more stressed! 

After half an hour, the male veterinarian wiped off his sweat and took off the gloves stained with blood. He turned towards Old Zhan, 

“His injury has been taken care of. There should be no more major problems. As long as his wound doesn’t touch water for a month and his bandages are changed every few days, he should be good to go.” 

“Ok, got it.” Old Zhan quickly wrote down the doctor’s instructions. 

“Old Zhan! How’s the dog doing!” Wen Jiexi stepped forward and looked over at the dog with some worry. 

“He’s fine, don’t worry about it. Just can’t touch water for a month and his  bandages need to be changed every so often.” Old Zhan waved his hand and said.

“That’s great.” Wen Jiexi patted her chest, breathed a sigh of relief, and then patted another dog with a smile. 

“What about these dogs? Since they’re so big, they might not even be accepted at the animal shelters, right? And who would be willing to adopt them?” Wne Ting hugged a dog close to her. Ah, the clean and fragrant smell combined with the soft fur felt great to the touch. 

“It costs a lot to raise even one, especially…” Mu Du smiled bitterly as his eyes fell on the biggest dog. Feeding and cleaning such a dog would cost a lot of money, which most ordinary people couldn’t afford. Not to mention, you need enough space to raise a big dog like that. Otherwise, that big body will just knock over every little thing. And you couldn’t just ask a dog to stay still, could you? 

With those words spoken, everyone else felt an unpleasant feeling in their heart. The dogs had saved their lives and naturally they should return the favor. The best way is of course to have the dogs adopted into safe homes, but whether a family could raise and afford such expensive dogs was another problem. 

“My family already has a puppy.” Huo Lin’er said helplessly, raising her hand.

“And I already have a cat.” Wen Ting also said with a stretched hand.

“Hey~ You still dare to raise a cat~” Lan Yuyan pursed his lips at Wen Ting, a teasing expression on his face. 

“Beat it! My little gray is the cutest creature in the world! Unlike the wild cats!” Wen Ting gave Lan Yuyan the middle finger and then said mockingly, 

“At least animals don’t hate me, unlike a certain someone. How pitiful~” 

Puuhhh…..Lan Yuyan felt like spitting out blood as he took 10,000 points of damage. 

“I should be able to….take one back.” Mu Du said hesitantly, ah… my daughter has been screaming for a pet since she was a child….so now that there is a free animal right in front of me, my wife shouldn’t be too angry if I take one home…

“Then I will raise one too!” Shi Junmao also raised his hand and said.

“Since Mu Du has stepped up to adopt one, I will follow along. My family has enough space anyways.” Old Zhan said. 

And so, three of the smaller ones were adopted just like this. The veterinarian had spare collars for them and since the dogs were well-behaved, he easily snapped it around their necks. The dogs seemed to know they were being adopted, so they acted extra well-behaved and then stood beside their respective owners. 

“There’s still three more.” Wen Ting looked at the well-behaved dogs with envy in her heart. So well-behaved and so strong too, these dogs would be perfect for guarding the house when she’s gone! Why did I adopt a pet so early? Cough….Oops, I seemed to have accidentally complained about my little gray……who is the cutest! Heng!

“Ah-Cheng lives with me, so he can’t adopt one either.” Lan Yuyan saw that everyone had looked over at Yan Haocheng with expectant gazes and stretched out a hand to block Yan Haocheng from the others. 

“You just want Brother Yan to stay with you. That’s why you won’t let him adopt one.” Wen Ting said.

“N-No.” Lan Yuyan said with a guilty shake of his head. 

Everyone else: We can already see through your thoughts. 

Yan Haocheng didn’t say anything and just patted Lan Yuyan’s head. Lan Yuyan felt the support from Yan Haocheng and so looked confidently at everyone, as if to say, ‘Look, Ah-Cheng agrees with me!’ 

Everyone else: Oh, so you’re the pet. No wonder he doesn’t need another one. 

“Lingqing and I will each take one.” Chu Heling stood up, patted the remaining two dogs on the head and smiled. 

“I don’t have any opinions.”  Li Lingqing stood beside Chu Heling. Anyway, she doesn’t need to worry about the money and she can hire someone to take care of them for her. 

That left only Wen Jiexi and Su Chenyu who haven’t expressed their opinions yet. Wen Jiexi looked at Su Chenyu and then at the big dog, her expression a little hesitant. She didn’t know whether her family would agree to owning a dog.

“Jiexi, Jiexi!” Dango floated above Wen Jiexi’s head and suddenly spoke. 

Where have you been? Wen Jiexi looked up at Dango. Previously the little ghost had said it would scout out the castle first but the little ghost had promptly disappeared for hours after saying that. 

“Ahem….something came up, but I took care of it.” Dango said with a dry smile. 

What Dango couldn’t say was that the atmosphere inside the castle was very strange and that for some reason, the little ghost had found itself stuck in a place and couldn’t get out. It was only until daybreak that Dango was able to move again. Who knows who built the castle, but they were able to trap the great Dango inside! However, Dango couldn’t tell Wen Jiexi this or else his image would be ruined! 

Wen Jiexi glanced at Dango suspiciously. She felt like a certain little ghost was hiding something from her.

“Little Xi, will you raise it?” Su Chenyu asked.

The big dog looked at them quietly, and didn’t say anything. It looked down at its huge body and a slight bitterness appeared in its eyes. It seemed the dog understood that everyone was afraid of its big body size.

“I’ll raise it, my house is big enough.” Wen Jiexi looked at the big dog’s wounded eyes and couldn’t bear it any longer. She met the big dog’s bright eyes and couldn’t help but pat it gingerly on the head. The big dog licked Wen Jiexi’s hand happily. However, its tongue was so big that the slobber covered her entire hand. 

“Sister Su, what name do you think I should give it?” Wen Jiexi hugged the big dog’s neck and looked over at Su Chenyu.

The sparkling eyes of the human and dog looked so similar….Su Chenyu though quietly and then scratched her nose, 

“Call him Big Black then.” 

“Pffft-! It’s one thing to call your husky Big White but to call a fierce mastiff Big Black-!” Li Lingqing laughed. Almost everyone knew that Su Chenyu raised a husky as her “excellent” assistant often took pictures of Big White. So everyone already knew that the goddess had a husky named Big White and therefore Li Lingqing didn’t need to worry about revealing this piece of information. 

“Yeah, Goddess Su, such a big and mighty dog and yet you call him Big Black? He should have a name that fits his heroic image!” Wen Ting laughed too, for no matter how she looked at it, it was just too funny.

“It’s a she.” The male vet who had been invisible the entire time suddenly opened his mouth and spoke. 

“A she?” 

“This is a female dog?” 

Everyone looked at the dog in a daze. This enormous creature is a she!!! Amazing! 

“Then let’s call her Big Black…..” Wen Jiexi also felt a little dumbfounded at the gender reveal but still had her wits about her to speak. 

Everyone else didn’t have any more opinions. After all, this was Wen Jiexi’s decision in the end. 

“Alright, that’s that!” It’s time for this little show to end happily, let’s take one last group photo!” Old Zhan clapped his hands and announced loudly. 

“A group photo here?” Wen Ting looked around. In this small space, how could they take a group photo? 

“We already prepared a place to take the photo.” Old Zhan said and then pointed towards the window, 

“Get in the car! Let’s go! I still need to drive you guys home later!” 

“Old Zhan, I want to eat breakfast first!” Mu Du shouted, patting his stomach. 

“Well, my little ancestors, get in the car quickly then, I will let someone prepare something for you.” 

Awoooo~ The dogs began howling and Old Zhan lowered his heads to look at them, 

“Fine….I’ll prepare some dog food as well.” 

“What dog food? They want to eat meat, alright?” Shi Junmao placed his hands on his waist and glared angrily. How could you let a mastiff eat tasteless dog food?

“Yes, yes, yes, I’ll listen to you.” Old Zhan said with a pout. Little did he know that he would regret nodding at this moment as the amount of meat for the dogs was about the same as ten people’s share of food….

Old Zhan crawled out of the car tremblingly and everyone looked at him in pity, well mainly pity for his wallet. Ai, sometimes you just can’t agree easily without thinking. This current situation is a lesson to be learned from. 

Their final destination was actually the little pavilion they were abandoned at in the beginning. Now an exquisite poster hung over the entrance of the pavilion, with the words 「Congratulations on completing the fourth season!」written on it.

The ten of them were dragged into the middle of the pavilion and the six dogs went to their respective owners as they peered at the camera curiously. 

“We’re going to start!” The photographer shouted. 

Click! Click! 

A few loud sounds later and the variety show came to an end. 

Wen Jiexi watched as the production crew began to clean up and then slowly made her way towards Su Chenyu. 

“What’s the matter? Little Xi?” Su Chenyu looked at the downtrodden person in front of her with amusement and patted Wen Jiexi’s head. 

“Sister Su, we’re going to part again.” Wen Jiexi said with a disappointed expression, her head lowered with a face full of dismay. 

“Hey, be good, didn’t you already agree to come to my birthday party? I’ll be waiting for you.” Su Chenyu whispered in Wen Jiexi’s red ears as she bent slightly and hugged Wen Jiexi. 

“Ohh…..” Wen Jiexi quickly covered her sensitive ears and then glared at Su Chenyu and then puffingly retreated towards the car that came to pick her up. 

Meanwhile, Big Black looked back and forth between the two before following Wen Jiexi. 

“Whaaa!!! It’s so big!” Li Lingmeng jumped out of the car and ran towards Wen Jiexi. No, to be more accurate, she ran towards the big dog beside her. She circled around Big Black excitedly. She had seen everything on tv earlier, but it was even more unbelievable when seeing it with her own eyes! Whhaaaa! The fur is so soft too! 

“Hey, pay attention to your image! You look like an imbecile like that.” Xue Molin chopped down on Li Lingmeng’s head in an annoyed manner and then patted the dog’s head, 

“Remember this, I am your owner’s agent. Be sure to be respectful towards me, alright?” 

“Awo!” Big Black replied, her tail waving furiously behind her. 

“Aiya, smarter than I expected. Not bad, not bad.” 

Wen Jiexi: Why do I suddenly feel like I’ve fallen out of favor? QAQ 

“Little Meng, don’t you want to go talk to your sister?” Wen Jiexi decided to change the subject. 

“Ah, speaking of, where is my sister?” Li Lingmeng, who was playing with the dog, raised her head and looked around. She found her sister, Li Lingqing, with her head lowered and saying something to Chu Heling. 

Li Lingmeng approached Wen Jiexi and then whispered, 

“Hey, Little Xi, is my sister and Sister Heling….”

“Huh?” Wen Jiexi felt a little surprised at Li Lingmeng’s question. 

“Tsk, why am I asking you. I forgot that you’re a wooden-headed idiot.” Li Lingmeng pouted and then decided to personally ask her sister and Chu Heling. 

Wen Jiexi stretches out an Erkang hand: Wait, no, no, come back! I know! I am not wooden-headed! 

“Oh, right, Jiexi, Prez asked for you to come home immediately after the show is over. Said something about how he has something important to tell you.” Xue Mo Lin looked at Wen Jiexi and sighed inwardly. She never expected that the Wen family actually had a daughter. Now…she couldn’t wait to see what will happen when the sis-con and Su Chenyu face off. Actually, during the filming of the show, she had watched the beta recordings with the President. When the sis-con saw Su Chenyu holding Wen Jiexi’s little hand, he was so angry that he had almost flipped the table! It was so interesting! This drama cannot be missed! 

The sly little fox named Xue Molin felt her smile grow even brighter at the thought and Wen Jiexi beside her could only shudder at the sight. Wen Jiexi chose to focus her attention on her phone that Xue Molin had returned to her just now. She looked through her notifications and saw that there were a lot of missed calls. But it was only the first two days. After that, only her parents and brother continued to call her. Her brother being the most diligent, calling over 20 times a day! Was it something urgent? 

What Wen Jiexi didn’t know was that because she didn’t answer her phone, the sis-con switched tactics and started calling the gold-star agent, Xue Molin instead. Everyday he would yell into his phone about his grievances and he would call an average of three times per hour. After so many calls, Xue Molin would simply roll her eyes, put the phone on speaker and then let Wen Linshu’s voice play as background noise.  She would only respond with perfunctory responses like “Uh-huh.”, “Yup”, and so on. As for the phone bill, she simply handed it to Wen Linshu. 

After thinking about it, Wen Jiexi decided to make a report to her brother and tell him she’s safe. Her phone rang for only a few seconds before it was immediately picked up. 

“Hey, brother….” 

“Little Xi, was the variety show fun?” On the other side, Wen Linshu was making a very annoyed expression as he gritted his teeth. However, his attitude towards Wen Jiexi was still very gentle, but the emotions he was trying to hide could still be detected by his little sister. 

“I thought it wasn’t bad. I was able to see Sister Su again! She took good care of me and everyone else was very nice! It was really fun!” Wen Jiexi said happily. When she didn’t get a response back but instead a series of heavy breaths, she said worriedly, 

“Brother, are you okay? Did you encounter some problems at work? Don’t work too hard and tire yourself out. In this entertainment industry, Sister Su will take care of me so you don’t have to worry. I can also go to her at any time if I have a problem.” 

Xue Molin: Darling Xi has come online, she is an expert at stabbing people where it hurts! Completely ignoring this sis-con’s feelings! Hahaha! 

“Brother is…brother is fine. Little Xi, let brother tell you, some people are actually beasts on the inside. You can’t be fooled by them. You should obediently come home first with your agent, mom and dad are waiting for you. Brother will go back later. Stay at home and wait for you brother.” 

“Oh…..” Wen Jiexi hung up the phone with a confused expression and then looked over at Xue Molin. She scratched her head in confusion and completely ignored the point of Wen Linshu’s words, 

“Brother seems to be sick. Was he gritting his teeth because he was uncomfortable?” 

“Yes, recently his heart had been feeling uncomfortable.” Xue Molin said with a smile, and then shouted at Li Lingmeng in the distance.

“Lingmeng! Come back or else we’ll leave you behind!” 

“Ahhhh, wait for me!” Li Lingmeng, who was saying something to Li Lingqing and then held Chu Heling’s arm with a triumphant expression, quickly jumped up and ran towards them. Her immediate loss of image really made one want to look away. 

“Goodbye Sister Su! Goodbye everyone!” Wen Jiexi waved at the crowd watching her go. 

“Bye! Next chance we get, let’s go on another show together!” 

“Hahahaha, right, right! It’s only fun with people you actually know!” 

“Alright!” Wen Jiexi waved and then sliced the door as the car began to start. 

“Ahhh….fortunately the space in here is quite large, otherwise I don’t know how we would have been able to fit Big Black.”  Li Lingmeng patted Big Black, who was lying on the ground lazily. Other than the three seats in the car, the cabinets had been moved to the side. Even then, they could barely fit the dog inside the car with enough room for the dog to lie down on its stomach. 

“I haven’t told my parents yet about Big Black.” Wen Jiexi scratched her head embarrassedly.

“Don’t worry, from the moment you said you wanted to adopt the dog, I told the president who presumably told you’re parents. They should already know all about it.” Xue Molin leaned back against the seat, taking off her high heels as she slid her feet against Big Black’s soft fur. She looked rather childish playing with the dog. 

“Really?” Wen Jiexi said in surprise. In that case, her parents should have agreed, otherwise her brother would have told her to return the dog in the phone call just now. She bent down and rubbed Big Black’s head, 

“Big Black, mom and dad agreed to raise you! Are you happy?” 

“Awoooo~” Big Black yelled and then rubbed Wen Jiexi’s face with her furry cheek. 

“Wow, I never expected for a big dog to be so cute! I’m going to play with my sister’s dog!” Li Lingmeng looked at Big Black enviously and pouted. 

“Oh, right, what did you say to Sister Qing just now?” Wen Jiexi asked curiously.

“What else is there to say? She actually dared to hide the fact that she’s dating Sister Heling! How dare she hide that from me! My own dear sister! Hmph, well too bad, Sister Heling is mine!” Li Lingmeng yelled loudly. 

“Huh? You’re going to break them apart?” Wen Jiexi asked with a shocked expression. 

“What are you talking about? Did you eat too much dog food from that variety show and now your brain is damaged? I only think it’s unbelievable that someone as wonderful as Sister Heling would fall in love with my unreliable sister.” Li Lingmeng rolled her eyes and huffed angrily. 

“Pfft-” Wne Jiexi never expected that in Li Lingmeng’s eyes, her sister was so….weird! Ai….actually, Li Lingqing is very fond of her younger sister, Li Lingmeng so if she knew about Li Lingmeng’s evaluation of her she would definitely be pissed off. This little brat was actually a hidden white-eyed wolf.(T/N: white-eyed wolf is usually someone who bites the hand that feeds them) 

“Huh, and she said she hid it from me because I have a big mouth!” 

Oh, the last part seems to be the main part….

“You kinda…are though….”  Wen Jiexi said weakly.

“What did you say!” Li Lingmeng said with widened eyes. 

“Nothing.” Wen Jiexi shook her head violently. Is this the so-called ‘jealous little sister’ behavior? 

“Hmph.” Li Lingmeng pouted and then pinched Wen Jiexi’s cheeks in anger. 

Ji….the car slowly parked into place and when Wen Jiexi opened the door, she froze in shock. 

“Huh, Sister Xue, this isn’t the right place…” 

“Oh, your family just moved. About three days ago.” Xue Molin said camly. 

“Huh?” Before Wen Jiexi could recover from the shock, the car drove away, leaving behind one abandoned human and dog. 

She turned around and looked at the manor behind her. The residence was at least five or six hundred square meters big with the actual manor taking up a third of the space. There was also a large outdoor swimming pool and vast garden that covered the grounds. What is going on? Did their family suddenly become rich? Did her brother and father suddenly strike gold in their business? 

With Big Black following behind her, Wen Jiexi arrived at the outer gates and pressed the little buzzer at the side. 

“Hello, who are you?” The familiar voice of Wang Ma rang out from the other side and Wen Jiexi felt her tense shoulders droop. 

“Wang Ma, it’s me, I’m back.” Wen Jiexi said quickly. 

“Ah, it’s the Young Miss! I’ll open the door for you immediately!” Mother Wang’s joyous voice sounded out and the gates opened with a click. 

Wen Jiexi walked in slowly, looking down at the road made of cobblestone beneath her feet that connected all the way to the manor. The entire place seemed too good to be real. Just how much did it cost? And this residence is in a very high-end community! She had seen several villas and manors when they had driven by! 

“Little Xi, you’re back!” Wen Shan opened the door, with a slight smile on his serious face. However, it was not his baby girl that he met, Yue, but a huge dog’s head instead. Chairman Wen Shan’s face stiffened. Did his daughter turn into a big dog?
