Ch.76- So my family is actually rich?!

“Aiya, isn’t this our dear Young Master Wen? You actually brought a female companion this time and this is the first time I’ve seen her before. She’s rather pretty too.” A feminine, shrill and disgusting voice called out. 

“Si Kang.” Wne Linshu turned his head, his eyes narrowing at the person standing behind them. 

Wen Jiexi also turned her head towards the voice to see a man with a very feminine and slender figure standing there. He wore a perfectly fitted suit, but he looked rather weak and fragile, with dark circles under his eyes. His face was frighteningly pale, like someone who indulged in debauchery too much and those disgusting eyes that did not hide his intentions were directed towards Wen Jiexi which made her frown in dissatisfaction. 

Unlike Su Chenyu’s intense gaze that made her heart race, the eyes Si Kang had obviously regarded her as some kind of product. A thing to be sold and he lustfully coveted after her with no bother to conceal it. 

“Si Kang, show some respect.” Wen Linshu said in a deep voice, not caring the least that the pressure he was giving off was disrupting this pleasant banquet. 

To actually dare covet after his Little Xi! Ha, take a good look at yourself! Although the status of the Si family is similar to that of the Wen family, Si Kang himself is a powerless and worthless person. He could only rely on his father’s status to cause trouble and he always used his lower body to do all the thinking. Those things could be disregarded, but his biggest flaws is that he likes attention and he liked to….steal other people’s girlfriends. 

Si Kang’s dirty eyes turned towards Wen Linshu, a provocative and playful look appearing in his eyes. He has long hated Wen Linshu with a passion. As the second son of the Si family, it was fine if he had to stand in his older brother’s shadow, but why does his father always talk about Wen Linshu this and Wen Linshu that. With two figures the same age as him yet both were much more powerful than him, and he had been suppressed into a worthless being. His older brother even regarded Wen Linshu as a role model! But he did not think the same! This Wen Linshu also depended on his parents to become President! If his parents only gave him a little more and let him take over the company, then he would’ve definitely achieved much more than Wen Linshu! 

Whenever he remembered his parents’ bias towards this man and the words ‘that child from another person’s family’ coming from his father’s mouth, he couldn’t help but feel disgust and jealousy. 

He narrowed his eyes and looked at the girl next to the man he hated the most. This kind of girl was exactly his type! And seeing that Wen Linshu attached so much importance to her, if he was able to snatch her up and press this woman beneath his body, it would be like pressing Wen Linshu beneath him! And the most important point! This girl even looked a bit like Wen Linshu! This made Si Kang even more excited, his belly filled with a burning sensation that caused him to speak without filter, 

“It’s just a female companion. Why is Young Master Wen getting so worked up for? Is it possible that Young Master Wen has fallen in love with this woman? The situation over here attracted the crowd’s attention.  After all, the two protagonists are both from first-class families that are second only to the Su family. This was a good show to watch and they happily ate their melons seeds from the side. (T/N: To eat melon seeds is to be a bystander, or an onlooker who watches the action)

In their mind, the Wen family rarely appeared at these banquets and they were always alone when they came. Even when showing favor to the women who admire him, Young Master Wen would only treat them politely but coldly. But now a woman who Young Master Wen values this much has finally appeared. Could this be….true love?

Normally, she did not attend these events either as she hated this place where people schemed against one another and played pretend-socializing while wearing fake masks. And so since neither of them attended banquets often, they just both happened to avoid each other and miss out on the chance of learning about their family’s true status. 

“Yes, but you already know that. You’ve seen my brother before.” Wen Jiexi said in confusion. 

“That’s not the point….” Li Lingmeng scratched her nose. She was embarrassed to say that she had always thought the Wen family was actually a poor family because of Wen Jiexi’s illness but then it turned out Wen Jiexi’s family was actually the Wen family that was almost on par with their family. Gah, she worried for nothing. 

While the two of them chatted on the side, they had no idea what kind of commotion their conversation caused. Because of Li Lingmeng’s appearance, Wen Jiexi’s identity was finally confirmed. At the same time, a storm boiled in everyone’s hearts. This girl is actually the daughter of the Wen family?!!! They hid this gem a little two deeply didn’t they?!!! 

Meanwhile, Si Kang’s face looked ugly as he complained inside his heart. Why didn’t Wen Linshu just tell him that she was his sister? Instead he let him make a fool of himself in front of everyone and this precious little sister. Wen Linshu’s calculations could not be underestimated. He glared hatefully at Wen Linshu.

“Second Young Master Si is still here.” The mockery and derision in his tone was clear and it made Si Kang’s face twist even more. He glared angrily at Wen Linshu and then looked at the two girls talking in front of him. Seeing that neither were looking at him, he turned around and with a hint of resentment in his eyes. 

Meanwhile, Chu Heling who was standing in the crowd raised her eyebrows slightly, 

“It seems the Second Young Master of the Si family needs to have a good talking to.” 

“You can just leave this to me. It’s only a lawless young master who can only rely on his parents. Maybe I should persuade his parents to cut Second Young Master Si from the family’s savings and see if he can survive on his own two feet in the outside world.” Li Lingqing snorted coldy and then handed a plate full of cake to Chu Heling. 

“So cruel.” Chu Heling smiled, feeling happy at the sight of this cake. 

“Cruel? Sometimes one must act quickly and cleanly. Otherwise the other party will pester till the bitter end.” Li Lingqing stabbed a piece of cake for herself and then said, “And if I don’t take action, then it will be Wen Linshu who does. Seeing how much importance he attaches to Jiexi, anyone who tries to covet after his sister does not end up well. Especially someone with a disgusting heart like Si Kang.”

“By the way, does Jiexi know that today is Sister Chenyu’s birthday? She seems a little absent-minded.” Chu Heling felt it was a little strange. “Um…he said he was interested in me?” Wen Jiexi said with a tilted head. 

“Pffff….” Li Lingmeng almost spat out the cake in her mouth. She looked Wen Jiexi up and down. En, yes she already knows Wen Jiexi is very beautiful but with the dress and makeup she’s ten times more so! Especially that fair and white neck! Tsk, even she felt an impulse to touch it and see how soft it is. 

“Why are there so many people here? Why did our family come to this kind of banquet? The food is delicious but the stuff I had to do before I came here was such a pain.” Wen Jie complained bitterly to Li Lingmeng.

“What? Do you not know what status your family has in the upper class?” Li Lingmeng raised her eyebrows.

“Huh? My family is in the upper class?” Wen Jiexi said with a confused expression. 

“You…really…I don’t even know what to say.” Li Lingmeng felt speechless at Wen Jiexi’s knowledge of her own identity. She was not much better as she could only summarize the situation. As for stuff beyond the basics, Wen Jiexi was better off asking her sister who is a business tycoon. After all, she is not interested in these things! She just wants to stay as the happy little princess of the Li family forever~ 

“Ahem…in short, based on your family status, the only families you can’t offend are….the Su, Feng, Xue, Li, and Chu families. These five are the major families. The next few families after them are the Wen (your family), Si, Zheng, Mo, Qian, Tong, and Yan families. These are all first-class families. En, well the rankings are based on the current data, it’s a little different if you look at some older numbers.” 

“Ah…?” Wne Jiexi felt a little dizzy and she pointed at Li Lingmeng, 

“So you’re from the Li family…that Li family?”

“Pff-hahaha!” Wen Jiexi couldn’t help but laugh and then pinched Li Lingmeng’s cheeks, 

“But that’s not right….my brother is only the president of a small company. My mother said that my family relies on the small company my brother owns and that my father is the chairman of the board of this small company.”

“Pfff–!” At this moment, a pearl of suppressed laughter sounded and caused the two to raise their head. Behind them stood Li Lingqing and Chu Heling who arrived since who knows when. 

“Big sister and Sister Heling.” 

“Sister Qing, Sister Heling. 

“Is it alright if we sit here?” Chu Heling asked softly. 

“Of course.” Wen Jiexi nodded quickly and cleared the empty plates to make room for the two. She got up and set the plates on a tray and then under the astonished gazes of the crowd, grabbed two more piles of food back to the sofa in the corner. 

“Hahaha, no matter how many times I see it, whenever Jiexi goes out to grab some food it makes me laugh.” Li Lingqing looked at the cakes and desserts on the table and picked up a delicate piece of chocolate, unwrapping the dainty paper before plopping the dark morsel into her mouth. 

“Oh, by the way, Jiexi you were saying something about how your family has a small company? Your family says some strange things.” Chu Heling couldn’t help the smile twitching on her face. 

“Huh? Ah, yeah, I thought my brother was just a small-time manager-level boss but then when I met Sister Lin last time she called my brother President. Then my brother told me the truth.” Wen Jiexi tilted her head and said. 

“If your brother is only a President of a small company, then wouldn’t anyone who comes after your Wen family cry themselves into death with frustration? Your father is the chairman of the top ten domestic companies and your mother is the President of several medium-sized companies and then your brother….is the President of Xingle. Of course, that’s just the surface. Who knows how much more there is hidden away.” Of course, Li Lingqing knew the real worth of the Wen family. 

Ah? Wen Jiexi looked at Li Lingqing with a bewildered expression, her head having just exploded after having this fact bomb dropped. When did the small family in her heart become so amazing? 

“Wait….Sister, did you just say that Little Xi’s brother is the President of Xingle?!” Li Lingmeng said with wide eyes. 

“You don’t know who your boss is?” Chu Heling felt a little dumbfounded as she looked at these two. Just how did these two….they actually didn’t even know who their boss is? 

“But there was nothing about this in the data I received.” Li Lingmeng smiled dryly. At the time, the information she received was for newcomers. Of course the little artists did not need to pay attention to such things. She never expected there would be such a misunderstanding one day. 

It was deliberately concealed. How interesting. Chu Heling and Li Lingqing both give each other a look.

Wen Jiexi thought about it. She did remember saying something about wanting to become a star with her own efforts. At that time, her brother had given her a hesitant look. He probably wanted to support her and tell her everything but because of her request, he purposely concealed it from her. Now she felt kinda guilty for suspecting her brother of lying to her earlier. 

“You’re here.” A lazy voice called out and Xue Molin appeared in a sexy red suit. Other than the more refined looking clothes, it seems like nothing else about her had changed. 

“Oh, I also only found out a few days ago that our Sister Xue is the young ancestor of the Xue family. Ah, she is the youngest one in our fathers’ generation and is the favorite of the Xue family.” Li Lingmeng gossiped about Xue Molin;s affairs with a smile and then added quietly, 

“So based on the official titles, you should be calling her Auntie Xue instead of Sister. Kekekeke.” 

“Oh, I’m so sorry that I’m an Auntie….” A dark voice sounded out beside Li Lingmeng. Li Lingmeng shivered and turned her head slowly to see the person she was gossiping about had somehow arrived behind them and had heard every word. She looked at the others and saw that all of them were smiling wickedly at her. Ahh! They tricked her on purpose! 

“No, no, Sister Xue, you will always be the most beautiful and dazzling flower in my heart.” Although she was bitterly wailing injustice in her heart against the other three, she could only smile stiffly and flatter the person in front of her right now. 

“Hmph, don’t think I’ll let you go just because you’re flattering this old lady.” Xue Molin’s eyes widened and she gritted her teeth as she pinched and prodded Li Lingmeng’s cheeks roughly like she was kneading dough. She only let go when Li Lingmeng’s eyes were full of tears. 

One must know that she is embarrassed by her own age and identity. Yes, she is the youngest in the Xue family and even her eldest brother’s first son was only three years younger than her. Every time she saw that little kid who was around the same age as her called her ‘Aunt’, she felt so ashamed. It was fine when she was younger and they were kids, but now she felt only shame. Although in public they didn’t call her that, the household rules dictated that they had to call her ‘Aunt’ in front of the elders. So in private she asked them to call her ‘sister’ and to call her ‘aunt’ only when they really have to. 

What’s even more tragic is that the children of those in the same generation as her were sometimes older than her. Others probably thought she was nitpicking when they heard older people call her ‘aunt’ but really she just felt embarrassed and awkward at the title. She’s not that old, okay? How can someone feel happy about being called ‘Auntie’ but someone older than her? Unfortunately, no matter how many hints Xue Molin dropped, they still refused to let go of the title. And so, she had to endure being called old with a sullen face for ten years. 

Yet, Li Lingmeng, this little fellow dared to poke her where it hurts! The girl is just looking to die! 

“Wuwuwu.” Li Lingemgn held her swollen face and looked at Wen Jiexi and the others sullenly. Among the three, other than Chu Heling who turned her head because she couldn’t dare to watch Xue Molin’s cruel torture, her own blood related sister had actually watched wickedly while she was being bullied! And then there was Little Xi! What’s with that ‘oh, how interesting’ look on your face! Where is that cute little girl that used to hide behind me! QAQ!

“By the way, Jiexi, do you know what this banquet is celebrating?” Xue Molin picked up the glass of juice on the side and took a sip. During these occasions, she didn’t like to drink even when she felt bored. She had to pay attention in parties like this one, and that means staying sober. It was so much better to drink at home instead. 

“Isn’t this banquet just about eating and drinking? Then we wait for the banquet to end. Don’t disturb the others and have fun by yourself.” Wen Jiexi told everyone what her brother had repeated to her. Apparently, this was based on her brother’s previous experiences. And honestly? She had to agree with him.  Seeing so many people laughing and talking with each other with hypocritical smiles, she felt both tired and disgusted by just being here. 

“But today’s host is the Su family.” Xue Molin said slowly as she looked blankly at Wen Jiexi. 

“Oh…the head of the major families.” Wen Jiexi ate her biscuit and didn’t notice Xue Molin’s incredulous expression. And she thought it was just a coincidence that the Su family had the same surname as Sister Su. 

“Jie Xi, you really were kidnapped here without knowing anything.” Li Lingmeng sighed silently. 

“What’s wrong? Is today an important day?” Wen Jiexi looked around blankly, recalling today’s date in her heart. Today shouldn’t be any special holiday or anything. 

“Perhaps it doesn’t matter to some people, but at least most of the people here came for the protagonist of the banquet. For them, it is a very meaningful thing if they can make a connection with today’s protagonist.” With a look from Xue Molin, Li Lingqing purposely said a few vague sentences with a smile. 

“Does that have anything to do with me?” Wen Jiexi still had a face full of annoyance. She just wanted this banquet to end as soon as possible and then meet up with Sister Su. She’s getting bored of just eating snacks in the corner. 

“Ai, Jiexi, you really don’t know? Today is said to be the birthday of the only granddaughter of the Su family’s head and is the next heir to the Su family. “Oh…then-” Wen Jiexi began but was interrupted by a loud round of applause. She jumped and asked with a startled expression, 

“What’s going on?” 

“The banquet is about to begin.”  Li Lingqing and the others stood up and walked outside as Li Lingmeng and Wen Jiexi followed after them. 

They walked under the arch and slowly gathered in the middle area where the crowds converged. There seemed to be a lot of people and yet there was still plenty of space for the guests to move around. 

“Everyone, thank you so very much for coming to this old man’s granddaughter’s birthday!” An old man in a black suit appeared on a stage. Although the old man had silver hair, his expression was still full of life and his body was still tall and strong. His imposing body didn’t look like something a normal old man should have. He held a microphone in his hand and when he talked, everyone immediately quieted down. 

The old man said a few words, the audience bursting into applause from time to time. Wen Jiexi couldn’t care less what the old man was saying as her eyes fell on a pair of man and woman next to the old man. They looked to be about the same age as her parents and compared to the old man, the man’s aura was not as strong as the old man. Although the man also had a serious expression on his face, there was a gentle, regal touch between his eyebrows compared to the sharpness of the old man. 

And the woman next to him was very beautiful, her entire aura was calm and collected. However, instead of an evening gown, she wore a high-slit cheongsam…..and it’s one thing if she wanted to show off her figure, but even her mother didn’t dare to wear such clothes. That’s because the cheongsam is very form fitting. If you’re just a little fat or a little thin, the cheongsam will see it all. The fact that this woman looked beautiful and was bold enough to wear a length cheongsam deserved Wen Jiexi’s admiration. 

However…..why did these two look so familiar? Wen Jiexi blinked and pondered.

So I thought the summary doesn’t exactly explain the story so here’s my take on it after I read like the first 20 chapters or so (there is only 47 chapters so it’s a short work that is rather fast-paced): 

The book immediately opens up to a scene where the MC has transmigrated through but finds herself in a novel she was reading some time ago. The moment she transmigrates into the book is the moment where the original female villain is about to sleep with the drugged male lead. So she ofc does the rational thing that anyone would do if they were in this situation : dump the guy who’s screaming ‘I’ll kill you!’ into a tub of cold water and then run the hell out of there. But one small detail she overlooked: the damn original owner of the body also drugged herself! 

So here she is, wandering through a random hotel with a body that’s slowly getting more and more hot when she bumps into the FL in the elevator. The FL is drunk for some reason but she doesn’t do anything to the MC until….the elevator opens again and reveals the heroine of the original novel standing there. In a desperate attempt to hide her face from the heroine, MC grabs the drunk FL and kisses her. The heroine sees this and then goes ‘oops looks like there are some horny kids in here, I don’t wanna deal with this! Ah, don’t mind me, I’m just gonna take the next one’ and then backs away as she averts her eyes. Yay, crisis averted for the MC…right? Uh-oh, looks like the MC has caught the interest of a certain CEO! The CEO goes, ‘Hmm, little rabbit, you dare seduce me?’ and the MC in her dazed and drugged mind can’t really fight off the advances. 

Flash forward to the next morning and the FL wakes up with a pounding headache. At first she’s rather confused as to why there is a woman lying next to her until all the memories come crawling back. Now here’s the twist, the FL was a virgin the entire time so that means….MC was her first time. FL hurriedly leaves in a panic and when she’s gone the MC wakes up. 

MC kinda treats the whole ordeal as an unfortunate one-night stand and chooses to forget it. She has more important things to worry about like the original body’s shitty life. The male lead hates her, the netizens hate her, her agent keeps trying to make her seduce guys, and everyone is just waiting for her to fall. She doesn’t have time to worry about the FL, she’s gotta survive first! 

Then the rest of the story is about the FL chasing her wife while misunderstandings happen here and there. It’s a pretty cliche CEO romance novel but it’s not bad to pass the time with (that is if you can read Chinese).
