Received A Wife From The Civil Affairs Bureau Ch.7

Jiang Ziquan had set her alarm for 5:30 A.M, and when she woke up in that early morning darkness, she hurriedly washed up and put on a new set of clothes. Although Jiang Zitao had not personally delivered the clothes, he had a friend of his do it in his place.

Meanwhile, Shen Yumo stepped out into the cold air and looked at the time, 6:20 AM. She wore a scarf and placed her hands into her pockets, thinking that it was almost time.

Back to Jiang Ziquan, she purposely drove in Lin Cuo’s car after asking about the roads over here. From what she had heard, Jiang Ziquan figured that no matter if Shen Yumo took the bus or drove herself, everyone had to pass through a specific street if they wished to reach the school from this part of the city. However, she bet that Shen Yumo took the bus to work. Now, can you guess why Jiang Ziquan did all this?

That’s right, Jiang Ziquan wanted to follow Shen Yumo to school. She wanted to know more about Shen Yumo and wanted to see Shen Yumo while she was teaching.

She arrived at the street and found a cafe where she could see the bus stop and waited patiently.

She took a sip of her coffee, the bitter taste allowing her muddleheaded brain to wake up.

“Did you buy everything you wanted? Emptied out your shopping cart?”[1]

“No, I’m waiting for the evening, the best time to buy lipstick is at night.” The eyes of the nearby chubby waitress were slightly reddish, a strong emotion flickering behind those eyes.

Jiang Ziquan glanced at them and the two waiters seeing their customer look over, naturally responded back with a bright smile.

On the “Double Eleven” day, few women are unhappy. [2]

Jiang Ziquan only then remembered that today was a shopping spree day, a day where everything is on sale online. She also quickly pulled out her phone and checked the items in her shopping cart. Of course, Jiang Ziquan was considered to be a fellow member of the hands-chopping subculture. [3]

However, she only liked to buy her lipstick, makeup, and other accessories online. For her regular clothing and other supplies, she still liked to buy them in-person at the stores.

The total amount of the shopping cart was a whopping 20,000 yuan (about $2845 dollars). Usually, as long as she only ate some ramen and dirt for a month she would be fine, but she felt like she was forgetting something. Her finger repeatedly tapped the payment screen and then exited it again. Her other slender hand propped up her chin, her eyebrows furrowed as she frowned. She was the perfect picture of a troubled woman.

Not long after, Shen Yumo finally appeared at the bus stop. She was wearing a pure white turtleneck with a woolen brown trench coat, about mid-length, on top. Her elegant outfit seemed to bring out her intellectual and gentle air even more than usual.

“Beautiful.” As soon as Shen Yumo appeared, Jiang Ziquan had seen her and then looked at her phone, finally remembering what was wrong.

She ruthlessly swiped the items in her cart away and whispered softly, “Sorry, darlings, I’ll take you home when I have more money.”

That’s right, Jiang Ziquan remembered that she still owed her fairy a proposal ring.

Jiang Ziquan then looked over at Shen Yumo again, and Shen Yumo coincidentally also turned her head in Jiang Ziquan’s direction. Scared by the sudden movement, Jian Zqiuan hurriedly lowered her head. If this stalking behavior was found out, Shen Yumo’s impression of her would definitely drop.

Although, it was quite frankly impossible for Shen Yumo to notice Jiang Ziquan because she is near-sighted.

Yesterday, when she went to the Bureau, she had worn contacts. Usually, she didn’t even wear contacts. Let alone glasses. Truthfully, her eyesight was only around 20/40 or so and she really didn’t need to wear glasses, only when grading papers did she wear them.

So naturally, she wouldn’t be able to see Jiang Ziquan’s face clearly because Jiang Ziquan was sitting behind a thick glass more than a hundred meters away.

Jiang Ziquan looked up again and saw that there were only a few people left at the stop. It seems that Shen Yumo had just got on the previous bus and left. She couldn’t help but feel annoyed at herself.

“Miss, do you need any help?” The waiter had watched as Jiang Ziquan laid her head on the table and lifted it again with sweat on her face. Thinking she was unwell, the waiter had walked over.

Jiang Ziquan blinked twice and then wiped the sweat on her forehead: “I’m fine, thank you.”

“If you say so. Please call us if you need anything.”

“Alright.” Jiang Ziquan waved her hand and the waiter walked away.

The waiter also glanced out the window to see what Jiang Ziquan was so focused on, only to see that nothing was there. So it’s true what they say, beautiful people have strange habits.

Jiang Ziquan sat there for a while until she felt it was time and set off to Shen Yumo’s school, also known as the high school that Jiang Ziquan graduated from. [4]

During her youth, Jiang Ziquan was not considered a good student and was unable to pass the entrance exam for Beijin high school No. 1. So her parents had no choice but to spend some money to get her into the private school, Mingxing High School.

However, her brother went to Beijin high school No. 1 and had met Chen Lanyi there. The two of them fell in love at first sight and have been a couple since then.

Mingxing High School was not far from her restaurant, which is called: ‘Plain Water Hot Pot’ and she specifically picked this excellent area to open her store. As she drove by, she took a look. It wasn’t lunchtime yet, so the street was empty, but the store was already bustling with workers bringing in today’s fresh ingredients and supplies. Seeing this, she muttered to herself. “Tang Jiu never disappoints.”

She sent a message to Tang Jiu, saying that she wouldn’t be coming to the restaurant today because she had to do something, and drove off.

On the other hand, Tang Jiu was confused. In his mind, his boss Jiang Ziquan was a bit of a workaholic. She never went out during the holidays and would come to the restaurant instead. As long as she wasn’t sick or injured, she would come to check in. The fact that she took yesterday off was already rare, but that was because of her brother’s marriage.

“How strange, how strange.” Tanj Jiu repeated to himself and then shook his head. He had no right to interfere in his boss’ affairs and so, dropped the matter and diligently continued his work.

Shen Yumo’s first class started at 10 AM, with a total of two different classes and two different grades. In her first class, the students were full of high school Year 3 science students. Often times, they would be doing homework for other classes, and she let them do so. She understood that at this point in their education, most students, especially these students, wouldn’t be able to improve their literature by a large margin before the college entrance exams.

“Good morning, class.” Shen Yumo calmed herself and walked in with a bright smile as she greeted her students.

During this tough year, these high school seniors needed encouragement, not negative scolding or discouragement.

“Good morning, teacher.” Each student’s greeting was louder than the previous one as they tried to grab her attention. As the school’s most beautiful female teacher at the school, paired with her gentle personality, these hormone-crazed students were obedient only for this one teacher.

Shen Yumo nodded, and then opened the textbook before saying in a clear and soft voice, “Today we will review the 《Song of the Pipa Player》”

“One Autumn night on the Yangtze Riverside, I bade farewell to my friends on a boat. Soft wind rustles reeds and maple leaves…”

She spoke slowly and her voice was full of emotion. The students felt it was as if they had gone back to that brutal feudal era and were witnessing the beautiful and skilled pipa girl in real life. Some students who were still befuddled by the previous math class, felt their minds awaken and gain clarity as they listened to her soothing voice.

During class, Shen Yumo felt several pairs of eyes looking at her, their eyes twinkling for some reason. Although she was used to others secretly peeking at her, these twinkling eyes were new.

Although she felt confused, she didn’t show it on her face.

Ding-Dong-Ding

Hearing the bell that signaled the end of class, Shen Yumo silently closed the book. After all, a teacher who drags out the lesson for too long will be hated by their students.

“Class representative please see me after class. Class dismissed.”

“Thank you, teacher!’

The students stood up immediately as if they had been revived and pumped full of blood. Seeing this, Shen Yumo flashed another gentle smile.

The class representative is a relatively lively girl named Wang Jie. Although her academic performance was good for the most part, her language scores were low. Therefore, Shen Yumo had been specially asked by the school to take care of her in preparation for the college entrance exam.

Wang Jie grimaced at her friends as they laughed, however she walked into the office with a smile. Teacher Shen had just gotten married so she probably won’t be too harsh on her.

Since it was a private school, there were enough funds for numerous offices, not just one teacher lounge such as in public schools. Shen Yumo’s office was shared by four of the humanities teachers, yet there was still plenty of space.

“Ms. Shen, congratulations on your marriage.”

Shen Yumo froze for a moment, remembering the dramatic events leading to her marriage yesterday. However, she still managed to smile and said, “Thank you.” The woman in front of her is named Chen Wenyan, a woman in her forties with many years of teaching experience under her belt, so Shen Yumo always treated her with respect.

Shen Yumo’s area was nice, her desk was right beside the window and sunlight shined upon the pot of hyacinths on her desk.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

“Come in.” Shen Yumo watched as Wang Jie walked in.

Her hair was tied up in a ponytail and there was a smile on her face, making her look lively and young. Shen Yumo stared at her and remembered the similarly energetic Jiang Ziquan. That slender white face was quite memorable.

Wang Jie noticed Shen Yumo staring at her and reached up to touch her own face: “Teacher, is there something on my face?”

“Oh, uh….no.” Shen Yumo cursed at herself for getting distracted and then said gently, “Wang Jie, during class, did you have something you wanted to say to me?”

“Huh?”

“Did something happen?” Shen Yumo felt her question may have been too serious and changed her question.

“No, nothing happened to me, but teacher on the other hand…” Wang Jie had a good record and was loved by the teachers so she wasn’t scared of the veteran teachers, much less Shen Yumo. So she didn’t hesitate as she directly spoke her mind.

“Me? What about me?” Shen Yumo was confused and looked down at her clothes to see if there was something wrong with them.

“Well, the thing is, we know that teacher got married and we just wanted to say that you and your wife look great together.” Wang Jie felt that this was a happy thing and naturally said what she wanted to say, “Congratulations.”

“WHAT?” Shen Yumo became serious in an instant, her brows furrowed tightly together. Then seeing the fearful expression on Wang Jie’s face she quickly calmed down. It couldn’t be Jiang Ziquan, was it Chen Ruoguang? “How do you know?”

This was the first time Wang Jie had seen Shen Yumo angry, although a beauty was still a beauty when angry, she still frightfully whispered, “The video of teacher’s wife and her proposal was posted online last night, although it got taken down.

“Is that so? Sorry, your teacher was being a bit impulsive.” Such a chaotic situation yesterday had a good chance of making it onto the internet. Thinking this, Shen Yumo felt irritated.

“No need to worry teacher.” Wang Jie waved her hands. Speaking of the teacher’s wife, Wang Jie preferred her over the teacher. After all, young people tend to prefer those who are decisive and beautiful.

Once Wang Jie walked out, Chen Wenyan walked over to Shen Yumo’s desk and asked: “Ms. Shen, wasn’t Chen Ruoguang your fiance? What happened?”

Chen Ruoguang had come to school to see Shen Yumo plenty of times before, so all the humanities teachers knew him. However, Chen Ruoguang suddenly turned into a woman. No matter who, anyone would find that strange.

Shen Yumo was speechless and tried to say something, ‘This matter is a bit troublesome, I-”

However, Chen Wenyan took Shen Yumo’s speechlessness as something else. Perhaps this Ms. Shen had liked girls from the beginning and although a law had been passed, there were many stubborn old people who still disagreed. Maybe her parents wanted Teacher Shen to marry Mr. Chen, but the lover had beaten him in the end. As the saying goes, ‘love will always find a way’ and that girl married her instead.

“Ms. Shen, no need to explain. This is your life and your decision, but I will be rooting for you! Work hard.”

Sure enough, a woman’s imagination sure is rich.

Shen Yumo froze as she watched Chen Wenyan walk back. She rubbed her temples, completely confused as to what had happened just now.

Without much time to think, the bell rang for class again and she sighed softly. Hurriedly she packed up her books and prepared for the next class.

T/N notes:

[1] Empty out your shopping cart: As in did you empty out your online ‘cart’ or for most people, your Amazon shopping cart. When you ‘empty out’ your cart it means you have bought everything you wanted from your shopping cart. Usually, this phrase is used for online buying, not in-person.

[2] Double Eleven: As in 11/11 (November 11) and if most of you remember Singles’ Day, it’s usually a shopping holiday, it doesn’t actually celebrate singles, just ruthlessly take their money. Think of it as Black Friday.

[3] Hands-chopping subculture: Also known as the Chopping hand’s group or clan, it refers to a white-collar group of people who shop online and then spend a lot of money. When they receive the bill, they are so annoyed with themselves that they want to (figuratively) chop their hands off to prevent themselves from doing it again.

[4] High school: Previously I translated the high school as middle school, however, I realized that’s not quite right because usually one takes an exam (at least in Asia) to get into high school or higher education, therefore it couldn’t possibly be a middle school. It’s quite weird, the original text is (中学) which could mean either a high school or a combined middle-high school thing. Depending on which part of China you are from, it could mean different things. In my opinion, the author is trying to say ‘high school’ because of the entrance exam part. I corrected my mistakes in the previous chapters, please forgive me for this slip-up.

Sidenote: Jiang Ziquan is going onto my list of potential yandere characters and her restaurant’s name is so lame. Also, I relate with Shen Yumo, I hate wearing glasses too. I only ever wear contacts and only wear glasses if I run out of them. Sigh, you perfect vision people are so lucky. (ノꐦ ๑´Д`๑)ノ彡┻━┻

  1. — Thanks for the chapter~ ^^.

Nice to see people being supportive!! Well, they are beauties so it kind of makes sense though.

  2. The sidenote tho. Huhu so true. However, I rather wear glasses than contacts since I have a bit of clinomania. I constantly find myself yawning and shedding tears and then my eyes get itchy. But still, glasses are annoying during rainy days, specially now that they get easily foggy everytime I breathe during winter days because of the masks. The most annoying this is, although I can see a bit clearly when reading since I mostly memorized every letter’s shape and can predict the words; when it comes to people’s faces, all I see is a blob head 3meters away from me 😭

  3. Glasses team! Albiet, if I spent the time to get used to putting on contacts, I would undoubtedly be on your side instead.

Ahah what’s that restaurants name. It’s to lame :))
    Thank you for the translation!
