The Jealous CEO Treats Me Hypocritically Ch.12

Shu Yian was about to explode in anger, but Su Wen hurriedly changed the subject and asked Yan Ruxue,

“Why were you in a hurry to meet me today? Did something happen?”

Yan Ruxue’s birthday is in two days. She had already sent out the invitations and naturally Su Wen was also invited.

Su Wen would’ve seen the other person sooner or later so she couldn’t figure out why Ruxue asked her out today.

Shu Yian, who was eating a big mouthful of her vegetables, sneered coldy in her heart and thought, ‘this straight woman is destined to be single for life!’ (T/N: the term “straight woman” here not only means that the woman is “straight” but that she is someone who rather talks business than fall in love, someone who is really dense in romance. So here, Shu Yian is using the term’s second meaning and not the literal first meaning. )

Although she herself has never been in a relationship, she at least knows that when one falls in love with somebody, one would always want to be near their object of affection, and would never get tired of seeing them. Yet, this clueless person actually asked the other person why she wanted to see her?

Yan Ruxue’s heart dropped for a moment when she was asked this question, it seems that…..Su Wen didn’t want to see her at all.

She knew this was the reality of things, that Su Wen didn’t like her, but as long as Su Wen doesn’t bring up this matter, she can at least deceive herself. Now, she can’t even lie to herself any longer.

After she slowly finished chewing the food in her mouth, Yan Ruxue put down her knife and fork and then replied in a dignified manner, “I actually have a friend who accidentally offended Miss Shu when she went to work on her first day. My friend didn’t know how to properly apologize to Miss Shu, so she asked me for help instead. I wonder if Miss Shu can be the bigger person and forgive her this one time?”

Although Yan Ruxue’s words sounded nice on the surface, there were several other meanings layered behind them.

If Shu Yian does not forgive her friend, then it would make Shu Yian seem like a narrow minded person.

Shu Yian does not have a habit of talking with her mouth full so she swallowed her food first before speaking.

To be fair, if Yan Ruxue had directly asked her to forgive the other, then she would have done so. After all, she was not someone who would waste time on people she didn’t like. However, Ruxue had asked her for her forgiveness in such a sly manner and wanted to paint her in a negative light. So of course she was a little unhappy.

Any discerning person would understand that Yan Ruxue was acting on behalf of the woman they had met in the morning. Shu Yian was not in the mood to go over that whole debacle again.

But before she could reply, Su Wen spoke up first.

“Is your friend Zhang Jiao?”

“Yes, that’s her. She is someone with quite a bit of mastery in jewelry design and I believe she will be the….”

She didn’t even have time to say the words “genius that my jie-jie needs” when she was interrupted by Su Wen.

“That person has a bad character, you should interact with her less.”

Yan Ruxue’s face suddenly turned pale. She originally thought that Su Wen would give her some face on the account of their previous friendship, yet in the end, Su Wen not only didn’t give her face, but also hurt her.

If Zhang Jiao has a bad character, then what is her image in Su Wen’s heart as a friend of Zhang Jiao?

She turned her head to glare fiercely at Shu Yian, who was innocently sitting to the side, as if she was blaming everything on Shu Yian.

Zhang Jiao told her that the reason Su Wen fired her is because this woman pretended to be pitiful on the surface and then made up lies in front of Su Wen to sow discord.

It was clearly Shu Yian who provoked her friend first and caused Zhang Jiao to get angry, but then pretended that she was innocent and made false charges that caused Su Wen to misunderstand.

In Yan Ruxue’s opinion, this woman was 100% a green tea b*tch.

Shu Yian, who was sitting listlessly in her chair due to her hunger since the food was completely unfulfilling, immediately came back to her senses and sat upright to echo Su Wen’s words in a serious tone, “Yes, I’ve heard that people who have a bad character can’t tell right from wrong and love to make false charges.”

She turned towards Yan Ruxue, and pointedly said, “You should be careful with making friends with that kind of person. If you’re not careful, you might end up being sold and even help your kidnapper count the money*.” (T/N: Idiom that means you get taken advantage of and even help the person that takes advantage of you.)

Su Wen, who was sitting next to Shu Yian, glanced at her faintly and wondered why Shu Yian was adding such a sentence.

However, it doesn’t matter if she knows what’s going on, it’s fine as long as Shu Yian cooperates with her.

So she nodded and said: “En.”

Then she paused, wondering if she had said too little and continued, “What Little An said is right!”

It looks like she is giving advice to Yan Ruxue, but she’s actually just cooperating with Shu Yian.

Yan Ruxue smiled somewhat self-deprecatingly: “I see.”

What an unbelievable situation.

Someone like Su Wen, who does things in a strictly businesslike manner, actually fired an outstanding employee for the sake of Shu Yian. Someone like Su Wen, who treats people coldy and has trouble dealing with other people’s feelings, actually embraced Shu Yian and cared for the other’s feelings.

So it seems, there was nothing like ‘first come, first served’ in terms of romance.

Some people, after just one glance, will be together for a lifetime, and some people, even after a lifetime of chasing, will always be limited to friendship.

So it turns out her years of persistence was just a waste of time.

She had thought as long as she held on to this love, she would eventually melt the ice around Su Wen’s heart and become her lover, but how can a simple pair of hands melt ice?

No matter how tightly one holds on, even until it hurts, the ice won’t melt, but when the ice meets the sun, it will automatically melt into a watery puddle.

Unfortunately for her, she was not Su Wen’s sun.

Shu Yian, who was quietly listening to Yan Ruxue’s inner thoughts on the side, wanted to speak up.

No, no, young lady, this is all fake. Su Wen doesn’t even have a heart, what is there to melt?

But of course she couldn’t say such a line.

She switched to another tactic instead, “I recently read a book and there was this one passage that said something along the lines of,  ‘Wistful love is destined for misery.’ It was about how one may be as devoted as they can be to their love and unwavering loyal to that person, but in the end, the other party never even noticed their one-sided love at all. Not only did it bring troubles to others, but to oneself as well.”

“I thought this was a great lesson that can be applied to the real world, what do you guys think?”

Yan Ruxue understood that Shu Yian was actually talking about herself, but didn’t say a word.

Meanwhile, Su Wen was looking at Shu Yian with questioning eyes.

【Is she trying to make fun of me by saying I don’t read enough books? Why haven’t I’ve ever heard of this passage before?】

【Also, I clearly only told her that Yan Ruxue and I are just friends and never told her that Little Xue likes me. So how did she know?】

Shu Yian saw that Su Wen was not cooperating with her this time and so she could only awkwardly continue on her own conversation,

“In my opinion, if you lower yourself so much in hope for the flowers of love to bloom, in the end your heart will only be trampled on until there is nothing left. If you don’t cherish yourself first, how can you expect others to love you?”

Yan Ruxye’s heart moved and quietly repeated Shu Yian’s words to herself.

Although she didn’t want to admit it, what Shu Yian said makes sense.

She had worked so hard to get close to Su Wen, and lived her entire life for Su Wen. She thought that as long as she becomes what Su Wen likes, then Su Wen would fall in love with her.

But in the end, it turns out she had done so much yet she only caused trouble for the other?

Is that why Su Wen had avoided her for so many years?

Is that why Su Wen fell in love with Su Yian? Someone who didn’t care what people thought of herself and lived by showing her true self to others?

But so what if Shu Yian showed her true self? She has such a bad personality, is double-faced and even slandered Zhang Jiao in secret just now. Did Shu Yian think that she couldn’t see through the other’s evil intentions?

Yan Ruxue calmed down her emotions, and seeing that everyone had basically finished eating, she smiled sweetly at Su Wen, and asked, “Jie-jie, are you in a hurry to return to work?”

“I think Miss Shu and I hit it off right away, and want to talk some more. So if you still have work to do, why not leave us first and let me talk with Miss Shu a little longer?

“Little An still needs to familiarize herself with the company affairs, so she will be going with me.”

Yan Ruxue may look harmless on the surface, but Su Wen understood that there were deep waves in her heart. Not to mention, with how much love Yan Ruxue holds towards herself, Su Wen was not sure what Yan Ruxue would say if she was to leave the two alone.

Shu Yian was someone she brought over for her own advantage in the end. Although she occasionally fights with Shu Yian, she would never allow her people to be wronged in front of others.

Shu Yian glanced at Su Wen. So it turns out this idiot did have some conscience after all. However, she really did want to speak with Yan Ruxue for a little bit, so as to clear the air and not let her cause trouble for others later.

So she looked up at Su Wen and then lightly pushed her arm, “It’s alright, you can go out and wait for me.”

Su Wen was still worried and asked, “Are you sure?”

Shu Yian confidently made an “OK” gesture with her hands, before Su Wen finally left.

“I don’t like you.” As soon as Su Wen left, Yan Ruxue got straight to the point and her previously sweet temperament disappeared.

“But I have to admit that some of your words do make sense, so from now on, I will live for myself. I will strive to become a better version of myself and then pursue my jie-jie again.”

“I understand that you are jie-jie’s fiancee and so it stands to reason that I shouldn’t do such a thing, but there are just some things I can’t accept. First, you chased after her like a stalker, and I don’t know how you made her fall in love with her with that attitude. This is not important, but what is important is that I’ve had a friendship with her for decades while you have none. Therefore, I don’t believe I cannot compare to you.

“Shu Yian, I want to formally lay down my challenge. We will both compete in a fair and honest manner for her love, neither side will use dirty schemes in this fight. Do you dare to accept my challenge?”

“I do not accept!”

Yan Ruxue did not expect the other to refuse so directly and asked with a slightly unhappy face, “Do you mean that you don’t want to compete fairly and still want to use cowardly schemes behind my back?

 “No!” Shu Yian answered quickly.

Who would want to waste time fighting over Su Wen with you? It really is too unnecessary to use so much effort to fight over such a cheap female lead!

She wanted to say that she really didn’t want Su Wen and was going to let Yan Ruxue take her away, but before she could even open her mouth, the system strictly sent her a warning.

[WARNING! May the host please remember your mission and mind your words!]

Shu Yian sighed.

This Su Wen had angered her so much that she wasn’t thinking clearly. Just look at what she was about to do just now!

So, she endured the nausea in the back of her throat and the disgust in her heart as she said with fake emotion,  “Little Wen Wen and I are bound by deep emotions, so why do you still want to break us pair of mandarin ducks* apart? There’s a saying that one would rather demolish ten temples than break apart a happy marriage. So I think you shouldn’t get involved with us anymore. Instead, you should give us your blessings and of course, I will also bless you to find a better love.” (T/N: mandarin ducks is a figure of speech to mean a happy/affectionate couple)

“Bless me?” Yan Ruxeu said with disdain, “Bless me to find a love as sweet as you and my jie-jie?”

【I don’t know if she’s trying to wish me well or trying to mock me. If you had a better character, than I might reluctantly accept you and my jie-jie being together, but with your bad character, I will never let you harm my jie-jie.

Shu Yian did not answer, her expression turning a little awkward. She really was giving her well-wishes to Yan Ruxue, she had no intention of mocking her! This girl is too much, she was just too determined to walk the path of the cannon fodder and reason couldn’t stop her at all.

Perhaps it’s because these 20 years worth of feelings have made her go crazy….

Shu Yian thought about it. Even if another love rival shows up in the future, with Su Wen’s avoidant type of personality that runs away from all female charms, Su Wen could probably drive away most love rivals by herself. Therefore, she really only needs to solve the problem of Yan Ruxue’s unrequited love if she wishes to save herself a lot of trouble in the future.

Thinking like this, she asked, “If I was to be replaced with a kinder and gentler person, would you accept her and Su Wen’s relationship instead?”

Yan Ruxue didn’t know what medicine this Shu Yian was selling from her gourd*, but she answered truthfully, “Yes, because you are not good enough for her!” (T/N: Idiom that means “don’t know what someone is up too”)

“Alright, I’ll break up with Su Wen, but….” Shu Yian gave her a condition, “You also have to give up on her. Neither of us will want her, what do you think?”

Su Wen, who was still worried about Shu Yian and so didn’t stay outside for very long, had returned to the restaurant only to hear these words, “???”

Author’s notes:

Wen Wen sheds a waterfall of sorrowful tears: “She doesn’t want me anymore, she actually doesn’t want me anymore!”

*proceeds to roar furiously upwards at the sky* “Ahhhhh!”
