Chapter 58-Entertainment Circle (20)

A few days later, news broke out that both the Gao Studios and Gao conglomerate had filed for bankruptcy. During that time, Gu Anran’s injuries had finally finished healing and she returned back to work.

“Anran, the Gao family have officially gone bankrupt.” Hong Qingyi informed Gu Anran during a filming break. 

“En, give me a summary of it. I’ll peruse the details later.” Gu Anran pushed aside the piles of reports that Hong Qingyi set in front of her and drank a sip of water while Mu Qingli helped wipe the sweat off her face. 

“After the Gao family filed for bankruptcy, their heinous crimes of bribery and smuggling were also exposed. Gao Zongxian was then promptly abandoned by the Gao family and then arrested and imprisoned. The Gao family had collapsed from within but the powerful members of the family escaped before the loan sharks could get to them. They have all fled overseas with the last of the Gao family’s dwindling fortune and Gao Wenjian was supposed to go with them but then he was accused of sexual assault, blackmail, etc. Customs caught him before he could escape and sent him back. He is now awaiting trial.” 

“Have him released and let the people from the casino deal with him. If he dares to escape, don’t bother with the niceties. Do what you have to, but make sure he doesn’t die.” Gu Anran said lightly. 

“Ok. I’ll pass on your orders.” Hong Qingyi nodded and then walked out of the filming site. 

The next scene was started and looking at the artists present, most of them were new faces. Those actresses and actors who had bullied Mu Qingli have all been fired. Some of them were bold enough to ask for compensation but when Gu Anran ordered someone to show them the incriminating video footage, they were in a desperate enough state to leave as soon as possible. 

With Duan Hongwu and Song Wenyan becoming a couple and the two villain leads out of the picture, the only main mission left to complete was to capture the female lead and female supporting lead’s hearts. But there was no hurry to finish as they wanted to stay with their respective targets for a lifetime in this world. Since they were staying this time, they should have a lot of time to slowly cultivate their feelings and build up a proper relationship, right?

Almost a year later, the filming came to an end. Because of the hiatus, they had increased the amount of work with over 5 different shooting locations and filming more than ten scenes a day. Finally, they could rest….

Gu Anran laid lazily on the bed, reaching out a hand to grab Mu Qingli who was walking by. She pulled Mu Qingli into her arms and rubbed her cheeks against the back of Mu Qingli’s neck. Wuoooo, still smells so sweet~

“What’s up?” Having long been accustomed to Gu Anran cuddling and random hugs, Mu Qingli patted Gu Anran’s head gently. (Ah…Anran…you’re being regarded as a child and have lost all your previous image by now←←)

“Nothing.” Gu Anran said blankly and then cuddled against Mu Qingli some more before letting her go. 

“There’s a party today, right? To celebrate the completion of the film? Do we need to do anything?” 

“No, Director Li told us to relax. He said that since it is a private party, you don’t need to wear anything formal and that everyone should have fun.” Mu Qingli picked up a comb that sat on the bedside table and then began combing Gu Anran’s somewhat messy bed hair. 

“Well, I think Qingli you will be the one receiving the most toasts today! After all, in terms of fame, you are the one who has changed the most!” Gu Anran smiled. 

Using this one film, Mu Qingli had become immensely popular with her follower count breaking into the tens of millions. Although some were temporary fans, with Gu family’s financial resources and status in the entertainment industry, it would be impossible for Mu Qingli to fall from her current high pedestal. Mother Gu and Father Gu would not allow that to happen, let alone Gu Anran. 

The Gu couple has already begun to regard Mu Qingli as their official daughter-in-law and spoiled her like crazy. They almost spoiled her more than their own daughter…..no, they actually have spoiled her a lot more than their own daughter. Every time Gu Anran returned home, the first thing they would ask was “Where is our Little Qingli?”. They don’t even ask after their own daughter first! 

And if Qingli didn’t come with her, the enthusiasm levels would immediately drop! Then they would still keep asking about Qingli! 

I’m adopted, aren’t I? I must’ve been adopted?! 

However, Gu Anran didn’t act any better so she couldn’t say anything. She acted like Mu Qingli and her were sweethearts when officially their relationship on the surface was still just ‘besties’ or ‘good friends’. 

Later in the evening, Gu Anran, Mu Qingli, Hong Qingyi, and Chi Mengyan arrived at the banquet in light and casual clothing. Food was placed on both sides for people to choose from at their own leisure. Tables and sofas were arranged in the middle and the overall design seemed to be geared toward making it convenient for people to talk to one another than for eating. 

When they walked in, many of the other cast and crew had already arrived including the male lead, Duan Hongwu, and his manager, Song Wenyan. 

Gu Anran looked over to see Song Wenyan and Duan Hongwu standing side by side with gentle smiles on their faces. Compared to the smile he showed in front of the camera, Duan Hongwu’s current smile was much more genuine than usual. 

Tsk, tsk, so this is what a couple in love looks like! Look at the way they grab food and drinks for each other! The lovey-dovey atmosphere between them is so bright that it stings the eyes! 

Ah…but except for those who knew about their relationship or were close to them, most people would only feel a dazzling light  around the two of them. They could tell something was going on between the two, but only the really lonely (usually the poor single dogs) would see the nauseating pink and lovey-dovey atmosphere. 

Either way, it’s hard to withstand this attack! Would you please think about us single dogs!?

If Duan Hongwu and Song Wenyan knew what Gu Anran was thinking, they would vomit blood in anger. Just who was the one sprinkling dog food every day?! And who was the one eating all that dog food! They were the ones suffering! 

When girls are in relationships with one another, others might still think they are just ‘really good friends’ but what about males? Others will look at them strangely and they had to restrain themselves from showing too much PDA.

Just who is the one always cuddling and hugging and even feeding each other every day? Does this certain someone even know that every member of the crew already has a tacit understanding of her relationship with Qingli? Or that their iceberg queen image has already evolved into an ultra-lovesick fool who shows affection every day?

(Gu Anran: Hey, hey, hey, when have I done that! You guys are slandering me!

Everyone: Really? Then we dare you to stay away from My Qingli for two weeks and you must maintain a distance of at least two meters apart from each other! 

Gu Anran: You…..you guys are just jealous! Plain and naked jealousy! 

Everyone: So you can’t do it after all! Just admit that you are displaying too much public affection every day or else we will separate you two! 

Gu Anran: You people are going overboard! 

Carrying a broadsword and emitting killing intent while glaring murderously, Mu Qingli slowly walks over: Who said they were going to separate us?

Everyone: N-no….no…you must’ve imagined it)

Perhaps it was because Gu Anran’s (pseudo) single dog’s gaze was just too pitiful, Duan Hongwu and Song Wenyan noticed their arrival and walked over with a few glasses in their hands. 

And since Duan Hongwu played the male lead in the film, most people’s attention was on him and that attention then landed on Gu Anran and crew as well. 

Ah….why does it have to be wine….why can’t it be coffee….that would’ve been so much better….Seeing people coming towards them to toast them with wine, a certain coffee lover lamented silently. However, no one would drink coffee during this type of occasion so there wasn’t even a single coffee bean in sight, let alone an actual cup of coffee. 

Hah….I’m so disappointed. 

Although her face remained expressionless, she replied perfunctorily to everyone who toasted her and made the expected small talk. Every now and then she was forced to take a sip of the fruit wine. Although she didn’t hate drinking alcohol, she liked coffee more so she didn’t drink wine often. And because of that, she hasn’t built up enough immunity to alcohol. In other words, she couldn’t hold her drink very well. 

So she was worried she would become drunk after only a few sips, however, she didn’t account for the fact that this body’s alcohol tolerance was amazing. After drinking almost ten glasses of wine, she still was not drunk and her head was only a little dizzy. 

Sweeping her eyes around the room…ah….Hong Qingyi was drinking the wine like it was water! As a manager, Hong Qingyi didn’t expect many toasts to come her way but many other managers and agents had come forward to toast her. However, just like how Gu Anran loved coffee, she loved to drink. Before they transmigrated, she would drink half a dozen beers in her original world. Although her alcohol tolerance was a lot better than Gu Anran, she had an…interesting habit that Gu Anran didn’t have when she does become drunk. And that is she liked to strip….

When she enters her drunken state, she would strip off all her clothes and start hugging people randomly…

Keeping that in mind, Gu Anran made a note to ask Chi Mengyan to escort Hong Qingyi back to the room if Hong Qingyi does get drunk. Although this is a private party, there was no guarantee that someone installed a camera. She didn’t need the headlines tomorrow to say 「Film Empress’s Manager gets drunk and does a striptease!」. Gu Anran did not need this kind of popularity nor does she want to deal with the headache of cleaning up that mess. 

Anyhow, as Hong Qingyi and Chi Mengyan were just managers they were allowed to leave early. So when she gets an opportunity, she will ask Chi Mengyan to return Hong Qingyi back to their rooms as soon as possible.  

With that in mind, she concentrated on stacking food onto two plates and made her way towards Mu Qingli. Mu Qingli was sitting on the sofa in one of the isolated corners of the room. By her side were many people who have also debuted and some small-time stars who came to congratulate and toast her. When they saw Gu Anran coming, they had the sense to nod and then tacitly leave. 

“You’re hungry, right? You should eat something.” Gu Anran handed a plate to Mu Qingli. 

“En…” Mu Qingli’s cheeks were covered in a red blush and her eyes looked confused and dazed. Anyone with a discerning eye could tell that she was drunk. Of course, Gu Anran could tell as well. But as a newly debuted star, Mu Qingli could not leave yet. The older actors who were equally famous or even more famous still haven’t left yet. If Mu Qingli left first, it may send a bad message and start some unsavory rumors. The party had just begun and they had to stay for at least half of it. 

While they were eating, Gu Anran could fend off the people who tried to approach them for a toast. After all, it was considered not polite to toast someone while they were eating. And so, Gu Anran slowly passed bits and pieces of the food over to Mu Qingli to eat and dragged out her eating time so that barely anyone approached them. The less she drank, the better. 

However, Mu Qingli was still drunk from the previous glasses of wine and she walked around with swaying steps. Her entire body was limp and weak, but fortunately, she didn’t speak much when drunk and only leaned against Gu Anran like a kitten. 

After a sufficient amount of time passed, Gu Anran said her farewell to the people present and then helped Mu Qingli back to their room and onto the bed. After dropping the drunk girl onto the bed, Gu Anran let out a sigh of relief. 

And in Mu Qingli’s current state, it was impossible to ask for her to take a bath. Instead, she might just drown if she tried to take a bath in this drunk state. 

Gu Anran could only sigh helplessly and fill a basin from the bathroom with hot water and grab a towel. She set them down to the side and then reached for Mu Qingli’s clothes…..wait, now that I think about it, I haven’t seen my wifey’s naked body yet! On the other hand, she has seen mine twice! This is a big loss! This time I have to see it and touch it too! 

With this state of mind, Gu Anran swallowed nervously and began to unbutton Mu Qingli’s shirt. Little by little, fair white skin was exposed to the air. Gu Anran tentatively touched it. Oh! So pink, so tender! It’s so soft! 

As she continued down, the chest slowly revealed itself in front of her eyes….and by the time Mu Qingli was half-undressed…

Paa!

A hand suddenly grabbed Gu Anran’s wrist and stopped her movements. Gu Anran forced and raised her head to look straight into a pair of smiling eyes.
